about tech talk
I am pretty savvy when it comes to tech...I am especially knowledgeable when it comes to LCD and Plasma TV's. If you have a question regarding the digital turn over, or regarding purchasing new electronics, here is the place to ask them! The salesmen at the electronics stores are just that, salesmen...they don't know most of what should be known when selling electronics. Do your research first.

I just recently bought a 42" Sharp Aquos. I'm in love with my TV! But I do not have cable or sattelite. I don't watch much TV - in fact only rented movies.
SO around Stanley Cup time, I wanted to purchase the games from the NHL Online and watch them.
I know there is suppose to be a way that I can hook up my laptop to the TV so that it would feed the game to the TV.
Are there special cables? I found the hook ups on the side, but when I went to the store - people looked at me like I was from outerspace.

And BTW...if you don't know, Tigerdirect is where I do all my computer shopping. They have a store right off capitol wich makes it very convenient.
For being a discount type store, it is kept amazingly clean.

BTW I got that Burner today, and a few other deals as well, I got a nice HP branded USB mmultimedia keyboard for $10.
Memory prices are LOW right now as well, espcially DDR2, making it cheaper to build new than upgrade!
HDD DEALS!!! 500GB Maxtor for $80, 320GB Seagate - $70, 250GB Seagate - $60

I dont know any company that gives 3rd party refunds. I work for Philips Electronics and we get a lot of calls from consumers saying the reseller told them to call and get a refund...
FYI PEOPLE...YOU CANNOT GET A 3RD PARTY REFUND FROM MANUFACTURERS...that is like buying something from Walmart and then trying to get a refund from Radio Shack...NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

So, exactly WHY can I get WTVD/WUNC/WRAL in HD with what I have, but have to pay the thieves at Time Warner more moola to watch ESPN broadcasts in HD? Is there a technological difference at work here, or is it just TWC trying to squeeze some more $$ from me?
Also, would a cablecard (still have to pay more to TWC?) be an option here?
Thanks to the knowledgeable folks who respond!

This is the ratio between the brightest white and the darkest black a monitor or television is capable of displaying. the higher the first number, the better, e.g. 500:1 is not as good as 1000:1 If you're comparison shopping, I hope this helps!
With plasmas and LCD displays, a high contrast ratio means when the screen is *supposed* to be dark...it will be. :-)
