Talked to my son in Afghanistan on 10-2. They had a mortar attack on 9-30.He said it sounded like it landed right next to his barracks. He said stuff was falling down all around him. No injuries, damage to be determined. But all he could talk about was wanting beef jerky! Ah youth.

Talked to him today (10-5) He asked me to send him his baby Bible. I guess the sounds of mortar fire will cause you to get religion fast.
He also said he was going to order a bicycle and have it sent to me and he wants me to ship it to him. I think he has inhaled too much sand. He says it takes him 45 minutes to walk to the USO. The bike would make it faster. I think I will send him a camoulfaged 10 speed with a super soaker mounted on the handlebars.
Another rocket attack. This time close to his billet. This time he said he not only heard it and felt it, but he could smell it. They all dove into the up-armored truck that they drive. No injuries.
10-20-09- Another rocket attack last night. No injuries, damage to be determined. He's excited about the beef jerky drive. He's going to get me his chaplain's e-mail address so I can co-ordinate the shipment with him.
Talked to him on 10-25- Said he's tired of being dirty all the time and having sand in everything.
10-29-09- Zack just called me. He was getting ready to go to sleep and they got hit by a 6.2 magnatude earthquake, centered about 60 miles from him. He said "everything was moving and shaking and I felt cold in my stomach". I looked at the USGS website and sure enough it had just been reported. He said he was afraid his shack was going to fall on him. As if rocket attacks weren't enough! He also said the base water supply had been poisoned with arsenic. GREAT!!
Another mortar attack on Thursday. The troops saw the Taliban fire the mortars and chased them. But they were on motorcycles and they got away. But they kept a watch on the point where they fired from and the next day they were observed setting up to fire again, but UH OH, we got the drop on them and sent two towel heads to meet their 70 virgins!!! Yay US!!!!

Also heard you had energizer bunny taking pot shots at you, she is the same one who was taking shots at you as sorority sister. Guess she doesn't like you stand for the "true golden rescue person"?

Hats off to you and your son, though he's only been there for a short time, before you know it you'll be posting a blog talking about him coming home.
I thank you for your son's service to our country. My son is 4, I hope one day he serves our country. I'm sure you're very proud, I'm proud of all of our soldiers, including yours.
