Mornin'...Didn't mean to be so slow in answering. I would pick for my first recommendation to that age group, the movie Glory. It's an intense movie but a great story and the soundtrack is equally moving. Don't be surprised at the emotion evoked by that movie though. "Gettysburg" and "Gods & Generals" are also good picks, but rather long for a classroom setting. Red Badge of Courage is and old standard that can be used but it is a little dated. As for speakers, I thought the NC Civil War round Table would be a good place to find someone local for your clas. I don't know where you live in North Carolina, but if you're in Durham call in ask the folks at the Bennent House for reommendations, same if you're in Johnston County ask those folks at the Bentonville Battleground Museum, near Dunn you could ask those at the Averasboro Museum, in Fayetteville you could turn to the people at the Museum of the Cape Fear...or try histroy departments at local community colleges. Shouldn't be too hard.
