That's the term we used to use. I don't know if it's popular anymore. But 'tacit approval' meant that if you didn't speak out about something, you were giving implied consent.
Tacit approval goes a little beyond that though. It implies that you are unwilling to stand up and confront a peer or comerade, a neighbor or group of people you generally agree and associate with. On the one hand, it could be considered turning a blind eye to an action. On the other, it implies cowardace. Examples of tacit approval might be a LEO who knows and says nothing when a partner arrests a prostitute then trades sex for 'letting her off this time,' or a politician who knows another is getting kickbacks from a defense contractor and lets it slide as 'all in a days' business.'
I was taught that tacit approval was bad thing.
Maybe it's time I brought back the term. Especially when a little girl's life is at stake.

They also said the order to abandon ship was within an hour or so of being given. If that would have happened, the ship I was on would have been picking up guys in the water. The 23 degree list was about the max for a carrier. I'll look in "my images" to see if I have an actual pic of the ship listing/burning. I have one on my puter & will add it if its not there.

YES "MA"AM! Lol! I posted some more comments on Smorg's profile for you. I've watched the "Fire" on the MIL channel....they've made a training film using the Stall's fire as to what NOT to do. I'm very glad to know your training saved you and the others from getting badly hurt or killed that day.
