about tidbit

The image above? I've entitled: A Politician's Promises

HOCKEY PLAY OFFS! AND THE CANES ARE THERE!  WOOOOOOOOO WOOO WOOOOOOOOOOO

"Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs" - unknown

"Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me." ~Carol Burnett

It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve. – Henry George

The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all, it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. – H L. Mencken

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. - Winston Churchill

If you’re young and not a liberal, you haven’t got a heart. But if you’re old and not conservative, you haven’t got a brain! - allegedly Winton Churchill (though has been challenged Churchill actually said this)

Where is a UFO when you need one.....

Tidbit is actually a real nickname I earned because I have a plethera of worthless knowledge that means exactly squat. One of my co workers gave it to me when she would randomly walk by my desk and ask me silly questions to see if I had the answer and / or knew where she could find it. I also collect strange books of useless facts like "Do Fish Drink Water".

I'm very passionate about my political beliefs, but I always try to be open about other people's views. If I'm not, I'll never learn or grow or improve my own argument (evil grin).

I am a woman.. I get testy.. get over it. Sometimes I actually do bite... my bark sucks so I have to do something to make up for it.

I'm always looking for a challenge, but considering I've been wealthy (or my family was) and came from a place where most people knew my family's last name, became homeless because of my own stupidity, and had a HOST of experiences from that and then worked my own way out of my situation, I've gained an interesting perspective. It's not better or more important than anyone else's, but it is unique.

Respect my opinions and beliefs and I'll respect yours. Remember, until you've walked in the road of the situation you are discussing, do you really have an honest and true perspective? Do you really have all sides or input?

And I do respect everyone's opinion whether I agree with it or not.  The only pet peeve I have is when people won't actually THINK about things.

For example - if you are for Universal Health Care I'd like you to answer these following questions:

  • What will be the actual changes wanted to be made?
  • What will be the necessary requirements to get these changes in place
  • Who will be impacted by the requirements (what groups- persons)
  • What are the potential long term impacts on those specific groups
  • What are the expected benefits?
  • How can the benefits be achieved
  • What are the potential pit falls
  • Do the pitfalls balance the benefits
  • Is the program(s) sustainable longterm

Once you answer these questions, sit back and THEN decide if you think "Universal Government Controlled" health care is the right answer for this country.  When I do this, nothing Clinton or Obama have put forth seem to actually benefit anyone except government

If you just answer the positives and ignore the negatives - you are only thinking emotionally and selfishly. It's it not just about YOU. The entire country is affected by your actions.

I work for a small company and my monthly BCBS insurance for a family of four. (me, wife, two daughters, in excellent health) is $850.

tell me that's right. that's the American way?

please...

Already told you 3 times that I acknowledge that there needs to be reform.

The point you keep missing is FREE. There is NOTHING free about it. Canada Health care is not FREE. Their welfare is not FREE> The tax payers pay for it. Just because they don't pay directly for the health insurance doesn't mean they don't pay.

And even so... your argument is that Canada's health care is better? So that is why so many Canadians are denied service, denied surgeries and told they have to go on waiting lists Because only so many surgeries can be performed a year? I tell you what... you go ahead and move up there .... take your family. If you get sick... enjoy that "FREE" health care ... then come back and tell us how fast you were seen, how the care was from the doctor.

What you say is FREE - while tax payers are actually paying for it.. They clearly are getting what they pay for NOTHING

Tid...I understand your point...BUT, if Canada's taxes are lower than the US (I provided proof from the IRS on the other blog)....and you are not charged when you go to the doctor OR for childcare services then IT IS A BETTER SYSTEM.

Now, I have not been to Canada and I said that I am sure Moore used the best case senarios, but in the movie he interviews MULTIPLE families and they all said the exact same thing and their treatment was FAST and at no IMMEDIATE cost.

For me the issue is insurance payments...because other than an ear infection once a year, my daughters never go to the doctors and my wife and I only go once a year for our normal check up stuff.

Tid... two years ago I got so feed up with the crazy high insurance I cancelled it and my family and I went one whole year without insurance.

Pros...I saved a lot of money...about $10,000 in one year. ($850 a month, BCBS)

cons...I worried all year....what if something terrible happens and my wife or I or children get cancer or something like that. that could cost tens of thousands.

Luckly, my daughters went to the doctors only a total of 5 times between the two of them for the whole year at a cost of about $625.

The following year I signed back up with BCBS through my company because of the "what if" factor.

I pay $10,200 a year for "what if" i get some horrible disease.

"But the service is still not FREE - just "prepaid"

I know, I hear you. But consider the two side by side for a minute.

The US tax bracket for me is $77,100 to $160,850 ($15,698.75 plus 28% of the amount over 77,100)

Canada's tax bracket for me would be 26% on taxable income between $75,769 and $123,184

So there for if I am paying LESS taxes than I am currently paying in the US and my healthcare is paid for by the Government then theoretically it is FREE.

If the US said tomorrow that everyone's tax rate would remain the same (not go down, just remain the same) and healthcare would be paid for by the Government, then everyone would think that healthcare is FREE.

get it? let's stop beating this dead horse.

I have checked into going private and the higher deductibles with BCBS, but the monthly rates are still high and if I go private then I do not get the little bit of pre-tax break that I do going through my company.

sure, when it's all said and done it makes about $175 difference in my check per week. which is $750 a month(not $850). but that's with high deductibles and $25 co-pays.

My company does pitch in and offer some relief on the deductibles on major surgery, but so far (thank God) we haven't needed it.

It's just frustrating to pay for something you never use, but God forbid if you need it and don't have it!

I know that illegals and other non-desirables walk right in, pay nothing and don't worry about bills and judgements, and bad credit, but I do.

I read it.. very interesting. None of that was on shown on the Michael Moores Documentary.

hi there! so i was reading the alleged Churchill quote you have there..i've been told the context is lamenting on the 'pragmatism' seen as necessary in later years..whether he said it or not isnt really known, but as a history nut job i can tell you the context of it isnt what it seems..in fact Churchill did exactly the opposite of the quote, entering politics as a conservative party member only to switch to the liberal party until about middle age when i believe he switched back. however he always claimed that his beliefs never changed, just the politics of the parties caused the switch. while churchill was at times a pragmatist he is most known for relishing in the romantics which caused him to value heroism and devotion above all, and grow disdainful towards people's politics...plus his beloved wife was a life-long liberal so i really doubt he would issue such an indirect insult to her. still think you're the only one with a plethora of useless trivia? ;-) LOL

Hey Jenn...cool that you and your hub may want to get into bikes. Start reading up on bikes and riding in general. Pick up a magazine or two. Go to brand name websites and get familiar with specs, types, differnt styles....etc. When you're ready to take the plunge, get up with some friends and see how they got started. I fiurst rode a Cushman mtorscooter back in the '60's..almost killed myelf. It got better after that. Decide what kind of riding you'll do, everyday , city trafrfic mostly, open country roads, long distance interstates...etc. This will have alost to do with what you pick as whatyou can afford. They can set up payment plans to suit almost any budget. Be more into how you'll ride and where as to cost. Most dealers will put you into touch with a "first time" riders program to learn how to ride safely. This is very important as on a bike you're really at the mercy of the elements, much more than in a cage (vehicle). I love to see women on their own bike.Research and Ride! :)

So not to be nosey but I'm curious about this: "I'm always looking for a challenge, but considering I've been wealthy (or my family was) and came from a place where most people knew my family's last name, became homeless because of my own stupidity, and had a HOST of experiences from that and then worked my own way out of my situation" ...(dont have to answer this) only because I have been through a very similar situation..probably not as wealthy at first bc i doubt the family name was all that well known.

okay! I'll try to get around to emailing you either later this evening or first thing tomorrow morning....have a technical report on my toy i have to finish up for tomorrow! have a good evening

Good morning! I'm days behind and just got around to reading your blog about the Obama supported. Oh My! What a story. I couldn't help but laugh though. You were much more patient than I think I would have been, I think. Way to put the quesions to her though. Good for you and your 'working class' :).

I read your post asking if someone made me mad LOL

You were being very descriptive about anyone who didn't fit the mold as you preceived them..that's all,no biggie.I could tell you were at bit at ease yesterday.I feel for you and teenage drama,I really do! But do you still think I am deameaning or sleezy because I will not vote for Hillary because she is a woman? Or I will not vote for Obama because he is black? DON'T ANSWER.ROFL

email i promised hours ago in 3....2....1....

Mornin' Jennifer, I wasn't trying to sound bossy about the confederate flag. I was always taught that a losing side should no longer fly their flag on the lost soil, it's a "lost" flag. To the victor goes the spoils aspect.

Great email, quite a read...im halfway through it....should get back to you sometime tomorrow though..been another busy day, and amazingly this is my first and only Golo fix today...hopefully i can control the cravings till tomorrow! Have a good evening!

Tidbit, If you could budget like that for the country you would have my vote for president. Good example and good advice.

It is okay to disagree...... and I respect your view. Being in business for myself for the last 25 years and having as many as 200 employees and seeing the 'downdraft' in the last 10 years and the overhead costs of insurance and general liability, as well as unemployment, I guess I would have to disagree also.

I have a saying that is not directed toward you - just experience... "Figures don't lie - Lier's figure"

As far as the home forclosures - you must be talking about the world because the US % is different - along with vehicle repossesions, unpaid taxes, bankruptsy, etc.

Sorry I got that one away - before I wanted too... Let's be friends - I don't mind a difference of opinions and always enjoy learning something new from someone.

I made a comment drawing a contrast regarding the US's shortage of refining capabilitied and Exxon's record profits. Please expound with your enlightened perspective on said subject for this "yahoo".

"The funny (almost hysterical) thing to me is that these yahoos who make comments (like river rat did)"

Seems to me you did more lumping than i did, but no harm, no foul, no problem. Have a good night.

Still watching your hockey? I'm waiting for next season! Go SABRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooo Hooo! lol Hope you enjoyed your mother's day! Have a great Tuesday lady!

re: the clamato juice, that's why you have to cut it with 50% V-8. Pure clamato is lethal.

Hey Tidbit! Both (syntha6 and dymatize) taste amazing. The suntha6 choc. is the best. They also mix really well. About the best I've seen. No clumping even in a shaker cup. When the syntha6 has a little fat and a little more cholesterol than the dymatize but it wasn't enough to turn me away.

You can find both of these at http://www.planetarynutrition.com/articles.asp?ID=113

You can also try this place for suppliments-

http://www.dpsnutrition.net/

132 lbs? Wow! That's amazing. Good for you. These contain no refined sugars. Maybe some aspertame(sp)but I think that's it. Very low in carbs. Another reason I chose these and taste. I had to make a decision myself about 2 yrs. ago. Keep gaining weight or turn it around. I'm in the best shape of my life now and I want to be even better at 40. Keep it up tidbit.

I've had protein pwdr in my oatmeal but that is about the extent of it. Interesting though that you cook with it.

Yes I know using Moral and Government in the same sentence is almost impossible to say without screaming or laughing.

Ya know you're more up on it then I am, cheer for me will ya? lol

Hope you enjoy the weekend! TGIF!!!!!!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by...the weekends been good so far. Hope yours is going well!

isnt today your birthday?

happy belated birthday...son is leaving to go climbing today...they are kinda sick of me...lol

hey! Sorry to hear that but two things come to mind: first the fact you've gone electric is great and two I've seen much klutzier moves (remember that baseball player that tore his acl throwing a tantrum bc he was called out) lol. Hope its healing well and be sure to milk it a little extra if the service is good ;-)

Jennifer, pursuant to your blog regarding your choices of vehicles - and the advice posted by many, I urge you to go to: www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/articles/42962/article.html and read "Confessions of a Car Salesman". It's a long article... 20 pages copied & pasted into MS Word, but well worth the time spent to read. I'd be interested to hear your comments after you've done so.

Terri

And speaking of Edmunds.com, you can read reviews by other "consumers" on different vehicles... sometimes very helpful, as opposed to just seeing what Car & Driver, Road & Track, Consumer Reports, etc. have to say about a "test drive" experience.

The review URL is: www.edmunds.com/carreviews.html

I think you'll find similar features on other vehicle websites like Autotrader.com, kbb.com, and so forth.

GREAT blog!

http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/2839984/

I loved your blog today...in response to GA Tech...I was at work and could not respond...my fingers itched to do so though. I thought your point was well made...great job girl...Stella

The law was, make it here alive, fill out the paperwork, pass the medical exams, and become LEGAL. Why do so many people say that their grandparents came here the legal way, through ellis isle, and the new immigrants (who come in the same way, with the same hopes and dreams) are illegal scum????

lol...you liked my squats? LOL

Good morning to ya! Raining cats and dogs here in Wilson!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!

You are correct, it is sad.

Oh I know all about the FAFSA, I have two degrees from ECU. I just find it hard to believe that all these illegal immigrants are paying out of pocket...

I definitely couldn't, and these student loan payments are kicking me in the a$$!

I wish your daughter all of the success in the world. The good thing about getting an associates first is the fact that you can work while getting a bachelors, in the field. Not to mention that many employers will pay for you to go back to college. Living with my mom was basically like a living hail, so I opted to go to a 4 yr school to get the hail out of dodge! LOL

I will look it up. I only get there garden salad anyway since I dont eat meat. Thanks for the info! Have a great day!

Thanks for the tip on The Big Easy. I look forward to trying it. One thing about the Bonefish Grill is that you can see their menu and prices ahead of time on their website. http://www.bonefishgrill.com

Here's the Raleigh specific menu link http://contact.bonefishgrill.com/GetMenu.asp?GetMenuStoreID=BFG 9408

My son is 3 and I'm always complaining but people I know with teens are like, "it only gets worse"! LOL But I know she's a good girl, its a daughters God given duty to get on their moms nerves, its only natural! I still get on my moms nerves. ;-)

Good Morning Lady!!.. Glad you enjoyed your evening out. I went home and cooked Cajan Catfish on the grill. With grilled Zuch.,tomatoes, green peppers and onions.Made a cucumber salad and cole slaw and hush puppies. Almost couldn't get out of the chair after eating all that!!!...lol..Thanks for the seafood idea!!!...Hope you have a Great Weekend!!.. :)

this is your reminder to sign up to adopt a soldier LOL!!!

Have a great weekend and thanks in advance!

Tid,

You know what I have had tilapia. It is good. Thank you for reminding me though. I use to work for a Japanese company and I tried to fit in. One time my boss and I went to dinner and he was carrying what looked like a purse. I told him that wasn't going to work.

This is off topic but Jennifer is a very pretty name.

Jennifer - thanks so much for the tips on the recipe. I can't wait to make it!
