about tidbit

The image above? I've entitled: A Politician's Promises

HOCKEY PLAY OFFS! AND THE CANES ARE THERE!  WOOOOOOOOO WOOO WOOOOOOOOOOO

"Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs" - unknown

"Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me." ~Carol Burnett

It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve. – Henry George

The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all, it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. – H L. Mencken

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. - Winston Churchill

If you’re young and not a liberal, you haven’t got a heart. But if you’re old and not conservative, you haven’t got a brain! - allegedly Winton Churchill (though has been challenged Churchill actually said this)

Where is a UFO when you need one.....

Tidbit is actually a real nickname I earned because I have a plethera of worthless knowledge that means exactly squat. One of my co workers gave it to me when she would randomly walk by my desk and ask me silly questions to see if I had the answer and / or knew where she could find it. I also collect strange books of useless facts like "Do Fish Drink Water".

I'm very passionate about my political beliefs, but I always try to be open about other people's views. If I'm not, I'll never learn or grow or improve my own argument (evil grin).

I am a woman.. I get testy.. get over it. Sometimes I actually do bite... my bark sucks so I have to do something to make up for it.

I'm always looking for a challenge, but considering I've been wealthy (or my family was) and came from a place where most people knew my family's last name, became homeless because of my own stupidity, and had a HOST of experiences from that and then worked my own way out of my situation, I've gained an interesting perspective. It's not better or more important than anyone else's, but it is unique.

Respect my opinions and beliefs and I'll respect yours. Remember, until you've walked in the road of the situation you are discussing, do you really have an honest and true perspective? Do you really have all sides or input?

And I do respect everyone's opinion whether I agree with it or not.  The only pet peeve I have is when people won't actually THINK about things.

For example - if you are for Universal Health Care I'd like you to answer these following questions:

  • What will be the actual changes wanted to be made?
  • What will be the necessary requirements to get these changes in place
  • Who will be impacted by the requirements (what groups- persons)
  • What are the potential long term impacts on those specific groups
  • What are the expected benefits?
  • How can the benefits be achieved
  • What are the potential pit falls
  • Do the pitfalls balance the benefits
  • Is the program(s) sustainable longterm

Once you answer these questions, sit back and THEN decide if you think "Universal Government Controlled" health care is the right answer for this country.  When I do this, nothing Clinton or Obama have put forth seem to actually benefit anyone except government

If you just answer the positives and ignore the negatives - you are only thinking emotionally and selfishly. It's it not just about YOU. The entire country is affected by your actions.

You and jedichick are some pretty smart cookies! Like your post (agree mostly) and welcome to our little disfunctional family!

hey tidbit, I totally understand your fustration. Being married to a Hispanic has been culturally difficult as well. Although, my husband is a legal citizen, he was raised in another country. And, the things they accept as normal, is not how I was raised. When we have get togethers some of his family and friends would come over and just leave trash all over my front yard. This drove me crazy! He would invite his sister and her family to come for a visit and they would tear my house up. No, discipline whatsoever for their children...arrgghh it would drive me ballistic. And, we lived in a neighborhood I used to call little Mexico, they would sit on your car, walk across your property, no respect. It was very difficult for me not to judge an entire race for these peoples faults. But, since then I have met some wonderful hispanics who are law abiding citizens who are absolutly wonderful and it helps me to remember not to judge an entire race on a few uneducated ones.

I hope this helps some, as I said truely I understand your fustration. anytime you want to vent, come on over to my profile and we'll vent togeather. LOL

Jennifer...thanks for reading the blog. I'm trying to get things stirred up as far as race. I just knew that the event 50 yrs ago has been kept hushed hushed too long.

Wait! I'M TRYING N O T TO GET THINGS STIRRED UP. Geez,

Enjoyed chatting in your blog, thanks. Like your movie choices too, just had a Saturday that I watched all three Lord of the Rings extended editions. Made for a full day! Serenity was awesome as well, although I had never watched Firefly I thought it was great.

Just curious, Tidbit. What happened that was enough FOR YOU? (If you don't mind sharing...)

Wow, that is powerful, Tidbit! I can't imagine anyone laughing at that story. But I see what you mean. It was all you needed to become a believer, but it is also a series of events that non-believers can disregard as your mind playing tricks on you, if they want.

All I can say is wow. Powerful! A lot of us out here would believe you, but I can see why you might keep that to yourself.

I'm glad to hear your life is back on track, too. I'm curious as to why you were homeless if you weren't on drugs or anything, and you have family. Or maybe I'm making too many assumptions.

There is so much to answer that question TBK that I wouldn't even know where to begin.

To put it simply - Spoiled rotten kid - abused - not quite rowing wit both oars (if you know what I mean) when it came to making good judgment calls. Lying, stealing, general overall driving my parents insane. Yadda... Messed my life up pretty bad ... then the only person I ever loved who treated me well, my Grandmother, died and I lost all sense of control. I think I honsestly temporarily lost my mind. I had met someone that wanted me to move to NC, so I lied to my family, packed up my stuff and moved... ony to have his girlfriend open the door wrapped in a blanket. So I made more bad decisions based on pride and stayed. Couldn't get work, lost my car (repo!) lost all my belongings when storage got auctioned.. got evicted from the place I ws staying... Too much pride to go home and tell the truth...(Con't)

Stayed with people off and on that I had met - lying to them too.. anything I could do to manipulate and get away with it.. using people.

The streets are eventually where I ended up with what little clothes and valuables I had in a garbage bag.

It sounds like you should write a book. You have an amazing story to tell. I'm not joking. Again, I'm glad things turned around for you because you could have easily ended up dead on the streets. To overcome what you went through is inspirational to say the least.

I apologize for asking questions about such a difficult subject. I was just intrigued by your story. :)

Tidbit are you coming over to the revolutionary? I think I'm scared to meet you because it seems like our life choices have taken us down the same roads. But, isn't it great that we had the chance to grow up, learn, and make different choices that now we can be proud of?

Good Morning, If you haven't found it by now here it is again. www.raleighrevolution.com, come on over and join, look forward to seeing your there. Hey, also have a great day!

"I almost feel bad my blog got into that type of commentary. For what it's worth, I really did enjoy reading your posts and frankly learned quite a bit in the process. Enough to push me to do some research. Thanks!"

Don't feel the slightest bit bad. He chooses to do these things, and they only hurt him in the long run. I honestly don't care either way. I'm just having some fun with him until he bores me, which is right around the corner.

You getting interested in the topic and choosing to research it on your own because of my commentary is the highest compliment you could possibly have paid to me, and I thank you for that.

Although I think many of your comments on socioeconomic diversity in the schools were half baked, I would have loved to had a full discussion/debate on the topic. You seem only concerned with the benefits to the poor and not the effects on the affluent. I am all for helping the less fortunate, but not at the expense of others. Also I think better opportunities should be afforded based on merit.

Hi tidbit, I told go_heels almost the same thing, about taking our discussion off someone elses blog, today. Poor guy, lol.

I feel the same wayas you do about having conservative views but being pro-choice.

Good evening Tibdit, just thought i would say hellow and hope things are getting better fore you.

Hey Tid...I saw your comment on the q's being backwards...Someone else had said the same thing and I still don't see it the way y'all are saying. To me the Question is 'Should Bush veto...' then with the answers, 1)No...then the Congressional bill passes and only listed techniques can be used...2)Yes...He vetoe's the bill which allows the waterboarding to continue. Maybe I'm off base but it seem to me to be right. It'll come out in the wash.

:) No problem here Jennifer..LOL...When you mentioned it, I thought well, dern, let me go back and re-read it again. I mean so many times I'll transcribe something and leave out one little modifier like "not" and believe you me, that can change the whole spin of a posting. LOL Have another cup on the house. :)

Thanks for the good banking info you posted to this blog... http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/2463059

Good info to know!

"Stupid question. I'm listed as Unaffiliated for party. That means I can't vote in a primary correct?"

It means you can choose to vote in either primary, but only one or the other.

In an effort to try and 'interact' more with my 'friends', I am writing this note to all of my 'friends' to say 'hi'. So.... 'hi', 'have a nice day' and 'hope everything is going well!'.

Does that work?

GOOD.

Ya know, its REALLY said that someone has nothing better to do then be a moron.

Actually I feel bad for them.

No life loosers.

Hope ur having a GREAT night!

LOL!

Never know on here! What did u say? Actually I didnt think they had golo staff on here at night after 7pm....

Then again I could be wrong.

of course hubby is correct!

gota love the jackazzes on here!

I mean REALLY now, Im home resting up for tomorrow night and someone has nothing better to do but post a stupid blog!

Sad how some people can be pathetic... oh ... thats called a troll!

tidbit if you were read more of my posts you will find i am very critical of both sides. not just conservatives...you will also see many blogs where people say its too much to read...i find simple minds on both sides...a simple mind reads one or two posts and assumes they know the mind of the poster in full...

I'll give you that bottle to suck on

ROFLMAO! GREAT ONE !

you thought that was subtle? lol...good shot back about the assumptions...i could have said no one...i am not that tactful.. dont hate me cause i am liberal...lol..actually i am a fiscal conservative and a social liberal.

i saw this and thought of you:

SABRES GO DOWN DA HOLE!!! 4-2! GO CANES!! Woooooooo WooooooWooooooooo! Tidbit

Sweetie it was 4 - 3, that's why they went into overtime, but still get the gist of your post. LOL :)

I hear ya, I would be just as excited if it had been the other way around, but hasn't been that way pretty much all season. They did have a roll for a few weeks, then lost it. Oh well, such is life! :)

I just saw your blog on the incident at the theater. I don't blame you at all! What is wrong with some people. They are such idiots. That driver of the SUV got exactly what he/she deserved!! Good for you! Idiots!!

:-) Beth

I haven't watched much this year, understandably so..lol Been a bad year fo sho, but I'll go with Retrobution! What the heck, right? lol TGIF!!!

did you ever look at the url?

Hey Jennifer...

Please consider the fact that there is evidence I can give you supporting this is gang related. And also consider the fact that one of the two charged with the murder of Eve Carson is in fact a serial killer. Both of the known victims were college students. Do you want to risk his release on parole in a few years down the road? Please write them. Please write them now.

tidbit, I saw your post on made in usa's profile and I do agree with you, I do not understand why Eve's death is any more important than others. And I have struggled over this for the last few weeks. Her death is NOT more important, but I also understand that she influenced a lot of people. I would argue too that many others have influenced people as well. Can we agree that we have to get past who is being highlighted in the media though and focus on what is happening here? I agree that the media is biased, boy do I ever...but maybe we need to start focusing on why these crimes are committed to begin with? I sincerely believe that we have to get rid of being slaves to media (and trust me, I am there, I have to self talk my way out of that daily). I do not know what the answer is but I intend to start doing something about it, to the best of my ability.

What people cherish in their hearts are the things that they will stand up for. And the more that one does for their community, the more you will see taking a stand for them.

I respect and appreciate your views, and you have every right to feel that Eve has received favortism. I will not deny that fact.

Are the Canes even playing tonight. ahahahhh hahahaha

I wanted to say something else...while I do not always agree with your views, I have to give you a lot of credit...you always seem to be open to other views and are constantly looking to expand your knowledge on topics and do so in a nonconfrontational way. That is an amazing quality. Hang on to it!

Yes, you may be correct...IF we can reinstate the death penalty. I'm aware that the 17 y.o. will not get the ultimate punishment, while the 20 y.o. is eligable. However, the death penalty has been halted. That is what I want reinstated, and for the oldest to receive just that. There is a real danger to our society by either not enforcing the laws or worse..allowing either of these two to return to the streets on parole later down the road.

Tid, I think we are on the same page here. Eve might be what broke the camel’s back but at this point does it matter? I agree we should have been outraged a long time ago, but we were not; now we are and should we not take this opportunity to try and make a difference? I definitely agree with you that we do need to join together to demand laws be changed, but also remember you cannot change everything all at once. Gangs are a huge problem in this country. But we have to start somewhere and in my opinion, gangs are the most organized group right now and that is where we need to start.

Actually, I HAVE seen you on your bad days...I am just quiet about it! And you are still ok!

Dang, we're sitting here watching the game at Longhorns and they changed the channel to Basketball game. For the love of Pete... I trust the Sabres won? ;) Sorry for my uncontrollable laughter before. So unsportsmanlike....but really Hahahahahaha. Sorry!!! Had to ;) Have a great night!

And I will likely feel like I need to apologize also at some point, but never apologize for what you feel deeply.

The death penalty was a strong deterrent at one time. That's because it was enforced and the bad guys knew it was enforced. Recently though, two bad guys lived their life (and likely with gang-related professional counsel) knowing that no matter what they did - even making a statement with the blood of two college students - they would definately live to tell about it.

You'll have to do a similar blog on Scottish movies, tho I 've got no idea of the appropraite occasion to do it. I'll put Braveheart here and now on that list. ;) have a good weekend.

Now that's funny. It was a game I suppose, they had uniforms on, fans were there and they kept score. :) Glad to see them get a boost like that but half the Canes team is out, no? Like I said before Sabres had a rough year. That's the good thing about sports, only one team wins for the year - and there's always next year. :) Have a great Saturday!!

Eeek, sounds exhuasting. LOL I'm cleaning so right there with ya, but not quite the same calibur. :)

Well next year you guys are in trouble is All I'm gonna say. LOL

Have a great Saturday!! :)

Hey, good afternoon i hope it is a good one fore you.
