The image above? I've entitled: A Politician's Promises

HOCKEY PLAY OFFS! AND THE CANES ARE THERE!  WOOOOOOOOO WOOO WOOOOOOOOOOO

"Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs" - unknown

"Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me." ~Carol Burnett

It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve. – Henry George

The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all, it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. – H L. Mencken

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. - Winston Churchill

If you’re young and not a liberal, you haven’t got a heart. But if you’re old and not conservative, you haven’t got a brain! - allegedly Winton Churchill (though has been challenged Churchill actually said this)

Where is a UFO when you need one.....

Tidbit is actually a real nickname I earned because I have a plethera of worthless knowledge that means exactly squat. One of my co workers gave it to me when she would randomly walk by my desk and ask me silly questions to see if I had the answer and / or knew where she could find it. I also collect strange books of useless facts like "Do Fish Drink Water".

I'm very passionate about my political beliefs, but I always try to be open about other people's views. If I'm not, I'll never learn or grow or improve my own argument (evil grin).

I am a woman.. I get testy.. get over it. Sometimes I actually do bite... my bark sucks so I have to do something to make up for it.

I'm always looking for a challenge, but considering I've been wealthy (or my family was) and came from a place where most people knew my family's last name, became homeless because of my own stupidity, and had a HOST of experiences from that and then worked my own way out of my situation, I've gained an interesting perspective. It's not better or more important than anyone else's, but it is unique.

Respect my opinions and beliefs and I'll respect yours. Remember, until you've walked in the road of the situation you are discussing, do you really have an honest and true perspective? Do you really have all sides or input?

And I do respect everyone's opinion whether I agree with it or not.  The only pet peeve I have is when people won't actually THINK about things.

For example - if you are for Universal Health Care I'd like you to answer these following questions:

  • What will be the actual changes wanted to be made?
  • What will be the necessary requirements to get these changes in place
  • Who will be impacted by the requirements (what groups- persons)
  • What are the potential long term impacts on those specific groups
  • What are the expected benefits?
  • How can the benefits be achieved
  • What are the potential pit falls
  • Do the pitfalls balance the benefits
  • Is the program(s) sustainable longterm

Once you answer these questions, sit back and THEN decide if you think "Universal Government Controlled" health care is the right answer for this country.  When I do this, nothing Clinton or Obama have put forth seem to actually benefit anyone except government

If you just answer the positives and ignore the negatives - you are only thinking emotionally and selfishly. It's it not just about YOU. The entire country is affected by your actions.

"Those are the ages the gov't has decided one can be an "adult" and 18 for which statutory rape is no longer an issue."

actually, i missed this part...it's 16 in nc for statutory rape. most states are either 16 or 17...18 is a huge misconception.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who voted for Munger. On the point of money winning elections, I will admit that he with the biggest checkbook usually wins. I'm an eternal optimist, though. Surely, someone with enough charisma and wit could get their word out and win an election. Are the odds against them? Totally. Is it impossible? No.

See, you're on to my game. I believe legislation needs to be introduced that only allows a certain amount of government provided funds (or vouchers for businesses in lieu of payment) to be spent during a national campaign. I'd argue for the same deal as pertaining to state funds being allocated for statewide elections. When you give every candidate the same amount of money to work with, you even the playing field.

Would such a bill ever pass with the current crop of politicians? No. That's why, in order to make real change, we have to vote in "Trojan Horse" candidates that can affect things from the inside.

And on the politics view point, I believe in fiscal responsibility and social liberalism. We're more similar than we may have originally thought.

"NAMBLA for example, fits what you are talking about. They've been petitioning for removing the age limit for YEARS. LOL good luck with that. Doubt it will happen."

lol..don't get me wrong...i'm no nambla advocate by any means.

lol...i definitely hate written communications. i recently had an issue at work where the tone of an email was completely misunderstood. but, i know what you were saying, i just wanted to clarify just in case.

Hi Jen,

For the sake of discussion, I do believe that AIDS originated - or was originally discovered - in the homosexual community. When I think of disease spread, I think of bathhouses, holes in public toilet walls, etc., where the absolute most promiscuous and risky sex takes place, and that goes back to the original subject. As far as I know, the practices are still prevalent; perhaps not so true within 'relationships', as long as said relationships last.

Terri

Hello again!

I share your questions re: "Why is it we (including preachers/ pastors/ reverends) keep telling people, when their loved ones die, that they "are in a better place" or that they are "with Jesus" when that is a blanket lie according to the Bible (which states that we lay in a dormant state until Judgement day when God takes those who have already passed on first)"

And furthermore, I question why good, innocent lives are taken when the most hateful being remains on Earth to sully it. Why are children born to people who don't want them and will treat them like the wrapper from a candy bar? It goes on and on. And BTW, I too am a believer - just stirring the pot to see what crawls out of the woodwork!

Have a good'un!

T

"however, be aware, there was no language in the bill to say that you won't have to pay it back if you still didn't pay enough in Fedearal Taxes come April"-----Now thats the stupidest thing that I've heard ever! lol not callin you stupid of course! but why would they "give" us and extra $400, then take it back? lol. Thats just retarded! lol. I talked to the lady that takes care of our payroll and she said I got an extra $56 in my April check. I really couldnt tell bc we get a base pay and a bonus pay in the same check for that month. and it always varies

Hey, I feel your pain! I just put a new engine, alternator, clutch on my car.

That being said, I took my car to T&P Diagnostics in Apex. It is kind of out of the way, and it is in the guy's backyard BUT Thomas is really nice and he's honest.

http://www.tpdiagnosticcenter.com/

He really did go above and beyond with me trying to find me a new engine for my car and kept the price very reasonable. I highly recommend him. The only problem is that he's kind of out of the way.

OK Tid, here you go- Our price on a compressor $500.20, installation- about $170, this includes charging and testing the system. This is if nothing else has to be replaced or repaired. This info comes from Lasercat. It quotes industry standards and figures labor at $70 per hour. I think that figure is a little low for most chain garages though. Good luck. Let me know if I can check anything else for you.

The orifice tube takes the place of the expansion valve on a GM car.

I am the same way with my car. I refuse to buy a new one but I had a bunch of things go wrong all close together. I didn't have a regular mechanic before and was pretty apprehensive looking for someone who would not take me to cleaners putting in a rebuilt engine. I called a bazillion people and Thomas was the one that I liked most. He was very upfront about his charges and did not charge me for a few things that he didn't put in his estimate. The alternator died 2 weeks after I got it back. When I took it back to him, he helped me out by only charging me labor and the alternator at cost.

This has been the year for things going wrong at my place. My dad broke my vacuum when he was helping me with my broken ankle. And yesterday my microwave died. (this makes me mad because I didn't realize how much I use the darned thing!)

You're welcome--I think it was probably Darnell you talked to. I'm not at all surprised they steered you right. They've been in business since the current owner's father started it sometime in the '50's and they're busy anytime I go by there.

Dang tidbit...looks like you've got quite a fight on your hands on the news side. I like your posts...you've done very well to keep your cool with some of those comments =P

I'm gonna poke around Goodwill tomorrow for a microwave. I feel like I should be able to get one for cheap. :) I have to do something as I had to break out a pan and boil water on the stove for my tea today!! Too old school for this girl!

I HATE automatics too. When I bought this car, the sales guy kept trying to steer me to automatics and I flat out refused to even look at them. If it isn't 5 speed with a clutch then I don't wanna drive it. Though I worked in RTP for years and the whole I40 with a stick thing kind of bites. But when not in traffic, I love it!

I am so tickled right now! I got a microwave and one of those electric kettles for $17. Plus I splurged and got a thermal carafe to keep my coffee in. I feel quite justified in my thriftiness today. :D

2 questions for you. #1 how healthy is sushi for you and #2 how healthy is if for a diabetic? I know the rice (starch) is probaly one major concearn.?

That is pretty funny, considering you posted right after me. So what kinda tips could I show ya? :-P

BIG tips eh? I'll remember that one. ;-)

Bomb threat...

WOW...that is crazy to think about.

Yeah. I have an AHI of 43.6, so yeah I need a CPAP. But that's OK, I'll just go get one on my own. I guess you missed where I said that. Day by day, topic by topic, I am learning the best way to deal with this place is to just to keep my dang trap shut.

If I had known how much of a toll sleep apnea was taking on my health, I would have treated it by now. But I'm one of those people who does not make a big deal about personal maladies. I never complained about it, never thought it was a big deal...here I am 2 strokes later...I am now convinced it was the apnea that was the major cause of my high blood pressure...which caused the strokes. I can't beat myself up now for taking so long to deal with it...what's done is done...live and learn...I had no idea it was taking such a toll. Which is why I was so upset the other day. Why should a CPAP machine have such a high deductable when it does so much to improve overall health in so many ways? It's asinine and cruel if you ask me. For crise sakes you would think a device like that lowers overall health care costs would be embraced by insurance providers...instead up ramming it up the keister of the insured...oh gosh that would improve health...what was I thinking...

con't- I'll just shop around for a machine...used, refurb...who cares...

That`s why i try not to post on her blogs....if you disagree with her, she`ll blast you.

She`s right and everybody else is wrong.

Gosh, I could have typed the same comment on the "gangs of golo" blog. I definitely did not fit into any kind of group on here! It's all good though! lol

Hey You!

I found a source for used CPAP machines- secondwindcpap.com- just placed an order for a Respironics DS200 and ComfortGel mask for 294.00- be here in 3 days. I'll wait to see if I need a humidifier, may not need one. Can't wait to use one regular, I feel like a 90 year old man...At least this will get me started, I can get a new machine down the road, although a Respironics is not junk...WEEEEEEEE!!!!

Hey there, I saw that you are taking up running. Before my ankle broke, I was going to do that too. Check out Couch to 5K program.

They have a pretty cool podcast that tells you walk, run, etc and has music.

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/

Happy Humperz Day! Hope things are going good for you.

I know what you mean about the questionaire...and as with most people, their positions on some of the issues are evolving. You can change them as needed, until the cut-off date. We've got plenty of time.

There are several KTMS in the Raleigh area, and more are coming on-line each week. I go to the one in South Raleigh, off Lake Wheeler. There are a couple in N. Raleigh, one in Durham, and I think we've got one getting ready to start up in the Clayton-Fuquay area, and I believe we've got one coming on-line in the Chatham County area...which area would be convenient for you and I can hook you up? I did a mock candidate selection session a week or so ago. Until I did that part, I didn't really understand how it would work. We're having a KTM jamboree at Lake Wheeler in a couple of weeks. So if you can attend a meeting PRIOR to that, it would be helpful...but not absolutely necessary.

Go to www.ncfreedom.us There is is link on the left side for KTM's. Go to it and follow the links to the locations. There will be a map at the top of that page and at the bottom, it lists the current locations and has an email link to whoever is running that particular KTM. You can shoot them an email for more detailed info on when they meet and where. That website also has a calendar of events on the home page, on the right side, so you can see all the activites of different groups. Our big push is a coordinated effort tomorrow to protest the ramming through of this Healthcare bill. We are supporting two of the proposed alternatives. Demonstrations are being held in Chapel Hill, GReensboro, Raleigh, Asheville and other NC sites. I will be at the one in Raleigh on Fayetteville Street in front of B. Ethridge's office at noon.

Sorry Jennifer about the mix up.Tman wrote me a note and I responded and wrote to you.My husband weighs 424 and is 6'6".He has diabetes, high blood pressure and swollen bumpy legs.he gets SOB when walking more than 30-40 feet.I have been worried for him for a long time. Now I have hope that he can live a longer life after the lap band. You have done an amazing thing.May I ask what made you want to lose so badly?

hmm...i certainly learn something new everyday!

Hey,Jennifer.I just read your reply. My hubby is going through all the same things. He has had diabetes for 20 years and now has severe edema in his lower legs, they are also bumpy form Peripheral vascular disease I suspect. He wanted Dr. Enoch at first, went to the office and was instead given Dr. Brown who showed no understanding or compassion. We did get our money back. A neighbor had had the bypass surgery done with great success and recommended Dr. Moran. So we went to the seminar for information and He is being worked up now.He has to lose 24 pounds so he is drinking the powdered protein for lunch to help cut back.He had a terrible time with an open colectomy(removal of part of his intestine for a polyp)last year and was really terrified of being "opened up" again.I am jst thankful he is finally grabbing hold of life again. He had been depressed and hopeless about his future.I wasn't real hopeful for him either at the way he was going. Now he is involved in life again.

Needless to say I am ecstatic!I am about 50 pounds over weight too so I am trying to back down on my intake too. I have the advantage of being a nurse and active at work for 8 hourss,4 1/2 nights a week. Thanks again for your information.I have always tried to understand what he is going through because I know obese people often get harsh and unkind treatment.I definitely have more compassion for my overweight patients.

Thanks for the advice. We also experienced Dr. Enoch's office inability to keep up with records and were given over to Dr.Bruce without informing us.We found him to be unsympathetic and impersonal. We like Dr. Moran's office much better.I can tell H is losing weight and he seems rather pleased at feeling his shin bones from losing some of the edema. His hands and feet have some wrinkles he didn't have before too. This is just from drinking one protein drink for lunch and a light breakfast and slightly reduced supper.i am so excited to see him feeling optimistic and noticing changes in his own body.I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your support!!!

Thanks for the link! I will take a look.

Hey. I saw the comments that Willow made to you in the blog about vandalism in Cary. I think that her comments were way out of line. She definitey needs to take her meds!

Have a great day!

Hey there, I was very impressed with comments you made on a blog regarding the health care bill. This is something I am very concerned about because I have cancer, am almost 50 and am very worried about how this would affect me should it be passed. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the comments you made and I also sent you a friend request.

Usually I ignore her blogs. I think this is the first time I've responded to something she's said in months. But if she's gonna call me a twit and a putz, well, she's poking the bear. And notice how the bear awoke without feeling the need to call names.

In my mind, I envision a country where anyone can walk into any doctor office of choice and pay $10 or $15 for a routine visit and other routine exams and "insurance" is ONLY used for catastrophic situations, such as cancer, leukemia, aids, etc with no ability to refuse.

Man, that would be an awesome place to live. Thank you.

good blog from Friday :-)

Thank you so much for the chilled soup recipes on my blog today!! I REALLY appreciate it! I will definitely be trying some this weekend. Thanks again - you rock!

just catching up.I really enjoyed your last blog - the re-post on healthcare; and I also enjoyed reading the comments where people were trying to figure out if I'm retired, or what! I've posted several times, that I work, online...usually in one window, while I have GOLO or other sites up in another one... No, I wouldn't mind being retired, and if I felt secure about this country, I might go ahead and shut everything down, but I'm thinking my savings will be almost worthless (cash) if the dollar continues to drop. So I keep working. Yes, it's good to usually be able to schedule my work around the things I want to do...but I work on weekends, alot, in the field. If I had to write every blog I post, I couldn't do it and run my business. But I have 5-6 sites that I have permission to re-post articles...so it doesn't take much time to find ones that interest me, and re-post them. So, no, not retired...but taking a vacation in about a week...going to the lakehouse and fish with Dad.

"And as long as people like you, who assume that all people who are against the bill don't want any reform, things aren't goin to change either.

Your as much of the problem as those you feel are "obstructing". It's not until people stop the bickering bewteen themselves and listen to each other that we'll really start to have an impact on the changes that need to be made.

FYI- the overwhelming majority of the people against this bill, are not against reform. The overwhelming majority recognize the NEED for reform."

You hit the nail exactly on the head, and will understand the origin of the "shouting against thunder" blog title.

Some people are so busy pointing out how blind the other side is, that they aren't able to see the whole picture. And we will lose, lose, lose in this proposition if it continues in this venue... all of us.

Thank you for your most sane comment.

Terri

Good job on FHq's AFP blog. I get so upset myself sometimes, I'm glad they aren't in front of me.... LOL

Don't let the dingbats get to you. Keep on fighting.

Keep in mind too, that Buhhezzahfat or what every is only a child and he knows no better (He's 20 years old) and that what happens when you don't have good parents to teach you values, and they count on the liberal public schools to teach. what a shame!

I loved your responses on the "town hall meetings" blog...to bad the lefties will never respond to such comments.

Tidbit my friend... read between the lines in my recent blogs. The literary tool of oversimplification can often shine light on matters that are oversimplified by the author's characters.

I am very glad, however, that the words I've written are hard for you to swallow. Indeed, it gags me to write such soft and meaningless platitudes. Again, these are written to make points and to shine a light on the myriad flaws in modern political opinions - especially those of our current government.

So glad you joined our Paranormal Enthusiasts group! :-)

Beth

good luck with your surgery! OH, and btw... I hope you don't mind me continuing my paternalism commentary on your blog - if so, I won't do it in the future :)
