The image above? I've entitled: A Politician's Promises

HOCKEY PLAY OFFS! AND THE CANES ARE THERE!  WOOOOOOOOO WOOO WOOOOOOOOOOO

"Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs" - unknown

"Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me." ~Carol Burnett

It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve. – Henry George

The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all, it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. – H L. Mencken

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. - Winston Churchill

If you’re young and not a liberal, you haven’t got a heart. But if you’re old and not conservative, you haven’t got a brain! - allegedly Winton Churchill (though has been challenged Churchill actually said this)

Where is a UFO when you need one.....

Tidbit is actually a real nickname I earned because I have a plethera of worthless knowledge that means exactly squat. One of my co workers gave it to me when she would randomly walk by my desk and ask me silly questions to see if I had the answer and / or knew where she could find it. I also collect strange books of useless facts like "Do Fish Drink Water".

I'm very passionate about my political beliefs, but I always try to be open about other people's views. If I'm not, I'll never learn or grow or improve my own argument (evil grin).

I am a woman.. I get testy.. get over it. Sometimes I actually do bite... my bark sucks so I have to do something to make up for it.

I'm always looking for a challenge, but considering I've been wealthy (or my family was) and came from a place where most people knew my family's last name, became homeless because of my own stupidity, and had a HOST of experiences from that and then worked my own way out of my situation, I've gained an interesting perspective. It's not better or more important than anyone else's, but it is unique.

Respect my opinions and beliefs and I'll respect yours. Remember, until you've walked in the road of the situation you are discussing, do you really have an honest and true perspective? Do you really have all sides or input?

And I do respect everyone's opinion whether I agree with it or not.  The only pet peeve I have is when people won't actually THINK about things.

For example - if you are for Universal Health Care I'd like you to answer these following questions:

  • What will be the actual changes wanted to be made?
  • What will be the necessary requirements to get these changes in place
  • Who will be impacted by the requirements (what groups- persons)
  • What are the potential long term impacts on those specific groups
  • What are the expected benefits?
  • How can the benefits be achieved
  • What are the potential pit falls
  • Do the pitfalls balance the benefits
  • Is the program(s) sustainable longterm

Once you answer these questions, sit back and THEN decide if you think "Universal Government Controlled" health care is the right answer for this country.  When I do this, nothing Clinton or Obama have put forth seem to actually benefit anyone except government

If you just answer the positives and ignore the negatives - you are only thinking emotionally and selfishly. It's it not just about YOU. The entire country is affected by your actions.

(Drive by wave.)

Hope you have a great weekend!

you were the very FIRST person to greet me on GOLO and I thought you were already on my friends list. did you get promoted or did i get demoted? LOL

blankity blank blank

Good mornin Tid. Thanks for you compliment about my 4" loss. As I'm sure you know, positive comments and compliments are what keep you going. I would love for you to hike with me at Falls Lake. But be warned, it is addicting. I'll be going both this Sat. and Sun. probably in the morning. I don't know what "physical" level you're at right now, but I'm still getting back into shape. I don't walk fast, but I can walk long. I'll be glad to tailor it to what ever you want. And if you know anyone else that would like to come, great. I know you might be a little nervous about being out in the woods with a guy you've never met. LOL Don't blame you. But I'm very tame and harmless, just ask the attendants at the assylum!!

Tidbit- Sounds like you and I are on equal "footing". You've got fasceiti, fasiei, fasiotis, your foot hurts. I've had that several times. Are you taping up? That really helped me. My Podiatrist showed me how to do it. Well you've got that and I have diabetic neuropathy in my right big toe. Which means it's numb except for when it hurts. This hasn't slowed me down much though. The hiking boots I wear really help. Sounds like we'd make a good hiking team, about the same speed. Let me know when/if you can go. What kind of volunteering do you do? You can e-mail me if you want. You've got an e-mail from me in your in box.

"danriverboy - actually that depends on what part of Ireland you go to for the super high taxes. There are two completely different tax rates for Nothern Ireland and Southern Ireland.

Hubby and I have been considering the same thing Fiesty."

Thanks for that info, I will dig into it a bit deeper.

how are you today?

Hey....thanks for the honest chit chat today. I enjoyed it. Hope I didn't offend you. I was just putting my point of view out there, but that don't make it exactly right, ya know! Have a good one.

http://abcnews.go.com/whatwouldyoudo

Hey! Look at it when you get home, because you know my page is going back private momentarily! lol

Hey! I just saw your review on Serenity. I loved that movie. I have both it and Firefly on dvd. I even started watching that show Castle as it has Nathan Fillion in it.

Have you been watching Dollhouse? I started watching it as it was by Josh Whedon. I am still on the fence about it. I'm going to give it the season to see how it turns out. To me, it has started getting better the last couple of episodes. (haven't watched last night's yet)

Ya, I'm not an Eliza fan either. I find her very annoying. But I can see how Dollhouse could get better. I heard that Fox had creative control over the first 5 episodes or so and then Josh took over for the rest. Castle reminds me of Moonlighting or possibly Remington Steele. I just watch it for Nathan.

I never watch television shows on tv now, just on my computer. :D Between Hulu, Ninjavideo and a couple of torrent sites I get to feed my addiction and for the most part watch stuff when I want to watch it and without annoying commercials. (except for hulu but their commercials aren't too terrible) Plus I get to watch shows from other countries. I have to confess to being a closet BBC fan. I just got through watching a show called Being Human which was pretty cool as the 3 main chars were a vampire, werewolf and a ghost living in a house trying to be human. It was pretty good.

I need to look for that sing along. I've heard good things ab

I torrented Being Human from http://thebox.bz/. It is a British "private" tracker. If you try to create a membership and it shows closed, let me know and I can send an invite to your email. The only thing with private trackers is that you have to keep up a good ratio of downloaded vs uploaded. I can explain it if you don't understand as my friend had to explain it all to me when I got into it.

It is pretty easy to do. (so easy that I taught my dad! LOL) You just need a program to download it. I use http://utorrent.com/ as it is really pretty user friendly. It opened up a lot of tv doors to me. If you join TheBox.bz, they have a pretty good explanation on how to keep up a good ratio if you read it. LOL. My Dad did not and downloaded about 20G of tv shows and then got put on probation. They like him though because he just sends them donations to fix his problem instead of seeding stuff back like I do. :D (paying for it kind of defeats the whole free aspect in my mind!)

I highly recommend thebox btw. There are a ton of really good BBC shows etc on there. Really old stuff like Fawlty Towers and really new stuff like The No1 Ladies Detective Agency which is a joint production with HBO. Plus if you like Jane Austen, there is a mini series called Lost in Austen which I really enjoyed being a big Pride and Prejudice fan. A modern day woman finds a door in her bathroom and finds herself trapped in the middle of Pride and Prejudice. Plus I really liked Torchwood which is a Doctor Who spin off but shown later at night so it is not as family friendly. OH! and I forgot about Robin Hood which is a fun show just for the good looking men and horses thing. ;) And BBC did Merlin this year which I watched. I liked it as it was light hearted and entertaining but it definitely takes liberties with the storyline.

Okay, I've geeked out enough about British tv. :D

Tidbit - if I send a friend request will you add me? I'm enjoying your recipe and diet blogs and want to keep up with them. I've been around a long time, just recently started joining in tho. Thanks!

wow babe. I am proud of you. I wish you lived near me so that you can moviate me into going to the gym and stuff.

wow I dont know how you do it. I'm getting up at 545 just about every morning, leaving at 650, dropping off the kido at the sitters, and have to be at work at 730 and most of the time getting off at 630...the free gym on base has a daycare but they work really wierd hours. mon tue thur. are from 9-2 and wed and fri. are 5(pm)-8(pm) and sat is 12-2..hard to get there at those times lol. and alot of work to get her in there. i had to register her for "daycare" on base, even tho she wasnt going to be in daycare, and i still have to go get the punch card from another building...*sigh* I might get there one day lol.

Tidbit, Is he wearing a collar or do you think he is definitely a stray? Sounds like a stray. Is he coming up in your hard regularly? First, try leaving food out all the time. Do you have a dog crate? If not, I can get one to you. It's extra large. You can move the food into the crate & when he goes in, hopefully catch him. How wild does he seem? Is he growling, showing teeth, etc.?

I would continue to leave the food out & I think you & your husband are doing the right things. I know the sore paw upsets you but it doensn't sound life threatening. I'm not so sure putting your dog out there is such a great idea JUST IN CASE he's rabid. It sounds like a cut & dry case of abuse & someone just "dropped him off." If he were wild, I think he'd be growling & threatening to bite. Several years ago, I was in a townhouse & my deck backed up to woods. There were 4 or 5 feral cats that I started feeding every night & they would walk up to my deck around dinner time & wait. When I'd get close to them, they would growl & hiss but each time, I'd put the food a bit closer. These cats were extremely feral but I just wanted them fed. The very day I moved out of the townhouse one of my neighbors called Animal Control. I stood there & cried like a baby. AC was able to collect only 2 or 3, though. Those cats were street smart & clever. Please keep me posted on your progress!

Also, if AC comes out there, they will cage him & take him in; however, you can always go over there & tell them you're interested in taking the dog in & he needs vet care. I expect they'll let you go ahead & crate him & take him. Please let me know if I can help in any way whatsoever. If you're not interested in takng him, I can contact a chow rescue that will take a mix & if there isn't one in the Triangle area, I would be willing to transport him to the closest city to get him in their program to get him fostered & then to a forever home. I work for Neuse River Golden Retriever rescue but we have contacts all over the Carolinas & Virginia.

FYI, I used a sun dried tomatoe wild rice and it really added a unique flavor I thought. Keep up the good work. The wife and I are now back to a healthier routine. I need to drop about 80 lbs or so and she just needs to tone.

Tidbit, Hope you're having a good day. How are things going with the pup?

This is great news! I'm so glad you rescued him. He is so thankful. Please keep me posted on everything!

Thanks for the info. Do you mean you are not a diabetic now? I'll appreciate any help I can get beating this.

Tidbit thanks for the info, that gives me some hope.

Tidbit, did you make it to the tea party? I talked to a lady for a few minutes last night...she seemed like she could have been you...but I didn't want to ask... I went to the Freedomworks tea party at 11:30 and talked to someone for a few minutes, a very nice conversation, and as I was about to walk awy, that person said, actually we sort of already know each other... That's when he told me his GOLO id. Isn't that too funny!? Anyway, I hope you did, and I would really be interested in your feedback. I posted a blog with the speeches...I couldn't really hear them myself, because I was too close to the road, and the horns were honking! We are going to try to take this as a starting point, to institute a DIFFERENT change. I'm not opposed to a third party, but I never really thought they had much of an opportunity to win much of anything. We're going to watch the actions of our leaders when they return to Congress after this recess...they need to shape up or ship out!

I posted this blog with videos of speeches at the tea party. I was back near the steps during the program, and couldn't hear for all the horns honking and the little drummer boy (which he didn't bother me, he was just having fun, I think) Anyway, was glad to find these videos, and felt pretty good about the choice of speakers, especially after I heard what they had to say...didn't agree with all of it, but it was good to get some differing viewpoints on how to right the ship. And thanks for coming. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on how we can improve the next tea party, which will most likely be on Independence Day, which falls on a Saturday. I'm thinking a longer "party", have some local bands playing in between speakers, have some good vendors (BBQ, chicken, burgers & dogs, ice cream, watermelon...4th of July stuff) and, of course, a different venue, where we can accomodate more people (maybe Pullen Park)

http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/4967295/

Tid, I wanted to commend you for sharing your story today. It touched my heart, and I have sent you good energy all day. I'm sure it took a lot to share.

I know we don't always agree, but you do seem like a fine person. That is more important that us agreeing, I think. :)

Have a lovely weekend, Gucci

"I assure you my situation was 100% TRUE."

I assume you have seen my posts on Gucci's profile.

After seeing indications that your post was an actual story, I did not feel comfortable posting directly to you.

I have seen such rediculous 'examples' posted on here and under the circumstances of the other day, it appeared to be such a situation.

I WOULD NEVER KNOWINGLY DISPARAGE ANYONE UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES.

I admire you abiltity to be open about such a tragic circumstance. I did not realize you were serious.

As I posted on Gucci's profile, I sincererly apologize because I spoke unknowingly about the circumstance.

And to further indicate that I am not an unfeeling monster, if you are up to it, re-read my earlier posts where I indicated that rape and incest cases were specifically exempted from my statements before we ever got to your situation.

Perhaps that will secure more credibility for my apology.

Beaautiful dog.

"Just FYI - normally I wouldn't have given a detail that vivid away of my life online."

I hope given that situation that you can see why I made a smarmy remark since it seemed unreal to me at the time - I would never expect such candor regarding a personal tragedy.

I will attack a political position at the first opportunity - but I do have compassion for the person.

I am glad to see you moving forward with your life.

I would never have knowingly caused you grief about such a situation.

Thank you.

I enjoyed your blog and I have also enjoyed the healthy and Tasty recipes that you have posted on here. I just made the spinach beef casserole and it was very delicious. Thanks for sharing. Have a GREAT day!!!

Well, Tidbit, that is why I love all these blogs you've been doing. Such an inspiration!! I feel stronger knowing I'm not alone. Thanks for all your support and help! :-)

Hey Tidbit (did you leave and come back, I thought we were already on each others friends list...any way, handshake coming your way). I look forward to your recipes. Email them to me at Gingerleigh225@yahoo.com :)

Tidbit, in your recient blog you made a referance about peanut butter and a delivery system being bread. Try celery, it is a little better for you than bread is. Just a thought. Have a good one.

Tidbit, You are welcome, glad to be helpful. about 2 years ago I found out I am diebetic. Right now I do not have to take short, just meds like glipised and mediforman (yes I know the spellings are off, hope you know what I am talking about just the same). Unforchantly I have gained instead of lossing. portion control is my most recient change. So i will be keeping an eye on your site for tips. Thanks, Jim

Intresting, never though that the 2 could be connected in any way.

I have been on several doses of metiforman and Glipised. I think I am at or close to the max right now. Getting ready to see a specialist. Last time i was at the doctors we has talked about getting a sleep study done. I've noticed some breathing iregurities.(SP) I really want to stay away from having to take inculin, plus I really don't like the weight I am at right now. I know you are not a doctor but some times a fresh prospective from some one who has delt with simiular problems can help.

You know Madam Trash Heap? That's awesome! I didn't think anyone would catch the reference!

Down at Fraggle Rock! Whooo!

How's it going? Love your recipe posts. I don't eat seafood, so I always check them out to see if I can make them with a different meat.

See you around the blogs! Gucci :)

My kids are past the Veggie Tales era. (Thank goodness) Now I get to hear really lame MTV Shiate. Remember when MTV was GOOD? Sigh.

Sadly, I do eat veal. I always say a little veal prayer beforehand though! :P

I just realized we are the same age. Very cool. :)

We also seem to have a lot in common. I also lost a LOT of weight. It's tough, but I'm so much happier.

Stay in touch, Gucci

No prob tid. I understand you're a busy lady. Tell me about your jaw. I didn't know anything about that. Hope you're doing ok. I can't imagine jaw surgery with a pleasant outcome. I've got to have foot surgery next wed. Actually looking forward to it. Tired of hurting so bad. We really need to get together and compare miseries! LOL Love ya girl

"NOW I need a contractor to come out and fix the wall and have NO IDEA who to trust.... or even how to go about looking ;("

Let me know if you want a hand in that Tidbit. I know quite a few good, trustworthy contractors. I've been in this business for 10 years, but I'm not a contractor. I get to see who is as good as they say they are =)

Anytime at all =) It is such a pain when you don't know where to look. There are so many out there who charge way too much and don't give a carp about the quality. The sad thing is, most people would never notice the difference until it started to come apart down the road. It's easy to make something look right...not so much to actually make it right =) Anytime you need people for anything like that, I would be more than happy to help.

"Tidbit, what do you think of the new Whigs party that seems to be gaining a little strength? ThisIsMyName

Sorry, long meeting and went to lunch. Blog barried now, so I came here to respond to you. Honestly, I don't think it will work. For the same reason none of the "3rd" party groups have worked before. The Dems & the Repubs will out spend to out voice and they will be burried in the sand.

For example, if anyone ever heard Mike Munger speak, it would have been hard NOT to vote for him in the last election, yet most people didn't even know who he was because the $$ spent by McCrory & Perdue got them way more coverage."

No problem, I was just curious as to how you felt. I tend to be looked at as liberal, but I feel mostly fiscal conservative and socially liberal. I've liked most of what I've read about the new Whigs party, but I have to agree with you, any other 3rd party just won't gain momentum to win. What is one to do? :) Thanks for posting your answer on my profile.

Doing drive by hugs and kisses to a sweet friend!!!!!! {{{HUGS}}}

I'm really glad Keith and Tim worked out for you =) They are really good guys.

Yes, my cousin does fix that. She is cheap and very good.

Tidbit: Enjoyed reading your comments on my blog this morning. Right on!

Hey Tid, recovery going ok. My only problem has been a little bleeding from the incision. Nothing major. Still limping some. I guess it'll get better eventually. How are you?

http://tyrohne.typepad.com/genuis-loci/

migrating a bit. Drop by anytime!

"However, that doesn't change the fact that the government has placed an age on legalities - 18 to smoke, vote, enlist in the services, serve prison sentences (in some states 17) and 21 to drink. Those are the ages the gov't has decided one can be an "adult" and 18 for which statutory rape is no longer an issue. By those same legal age guidelines, one would have to use as the age for proper consenting adults"

and i agree with you here as well. but, if you are interested in changing laws to permit gay marriage, why not change laws to permit marriage by adolescents? my big picture question, is where do lines get drawn, and who determines what is right?
