HOCKEY PLAY OFFS! AND THE CANES ARE THERE!  WOOOOOOOOO WOOO WOOOOOOOOOOO

"Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs" - unknown

"Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me." ~Carol Burnett

It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve. – Henry George

The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all, it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. – H L. Mencken

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. - Winston Churchill

If you’re young and not a liberal, you haven’t got a heart. But if you’re old and not conservative, you haven’t got a brain! - allegedly Winton Churchill (though has been challenged Churchill actually said this)

Where is a UFO when you need one.....

Tidbit is actually a real nickname I earned because I have a plethera of worthless knowledge that means exactly squat. One of my co workers gave it to me when she would randomly walk by my desk and ask me silly questions to see if I had the answer and / or knew where she could find it. I also collect strange books of useless facts like "Do Fish Drink Water".

I'm very passionate about my political beliefs, but I always try to be open about other people's views. If I'm not, I'll never learn or grow or improve my own argument (evil grin).

I am a woman.. I get testy.. get over it. Sometimes I actually do bite... my bark sucks so I have to do something to make up for it.

I'm always looking for a challenge, but considering I've been wealthy (or my family was) and came from a place where most people knew my family's last name, became homeless because of my own stupidity, and had a HOST of experiences from that and then worked my own way out of my situation, I've gained an interesting perspective. It's not better or more important than anyone else's, but it is unique.

Respect my opinions and beliefs and I'll respect yours. Remember, until you've walked in the road of the situation you are discussing, do you really have an honest and true perspective? Do you really have all sides or input?

And I do respect everyone's opinion whether I agree with it or not.  The only pet peeve I have is when people won't actually THINK about things.

For example - if you are for Universal Health Care I'd like you to answer these following questions:

  • What will be the actual changes wanted to be made?
  • What will be the necessary requirements to get these changes in place
  • Who will be impacted by the requirements (what groups- persons)
  • What are the potential long term impacts on those specific groups
  • What are the expected benefits?
  • How can the benefits be achieved
  • What are the potential pit falls
  • Do the pitfalls balance the benefits
  • Is the program(s) sustainable longterm

Once you answer these questions, sit back and THEN decide if you think "Universal Government Controlled" health care is the right answer for this country.  When I do this, nothing Clinton or Obama have put forth seem to actually benefit anyone except government

If you just answer the positives and ignore the negatives - you are only thinking emotionally and selfishly. It's it not just about YOU. The entire country is affected by your actions.

I know we disagree regularly on most things, but I was skimming the blog on homosexuals and I liked what you had to say. I am no fan of gays at all, but I do support their rights to be treated equally and feel they should be allowed to be married.

Your comment on the Staal bobble head is TOO FUNNY!

Now I will chuckle every time I look at it!

I'll be there Tonight and Thursday as well.

Go Canes!

what I do with my life as long as it respects the constitution in that it doesn't infringe on someone else's rights, is my business.

Jennifer, check out Alaska. There are a whole bunch of us up here that believe that same way!! We also have the referendum form of govt. and if we dont like a law and can get enough of our fellow Alaskans to feel the same way, we change the law!!! There are some jobs here, and one can be as BIG or as SMALL as they want, and as long as they do not affect the way other Alaskans live, you are free to do whatever you want!! The way America USED TO BE!!!

Hey, let's stay in touch. What kind of work do you do? Drop me an email sometime...I am at: yukonjohn3@yahoo.com Talk to you soon.

Baby steps for the Canes, but last nights win was awesome.

The game had a little bit of everything in it; fights, penalty shots, and nearly a hat trick. Defense was much better, less dump and chase.

Lets see if this carries into Thursday's game!

Go Canes

Another great win.

Okay... so we get our bobble heads, and the first words out of my wife mouth was "OMG, he looks like a blow up doll."

I would guess Staal's teammates are having fun with this as well.

Jen,

I googled "wine selector" and got numerous entries - one of which was http://www.selectsmart.com/WINE/

Try Google & see if you find some outstanding recommendations. One of the cooking magazine sites - whether Gourmet, Bon Appetit or another - also has a wine selector tool based on your menu.

excellent points being made about "the children" on drb's blog. I'll bet he deletes it!

I knew it; your last comment was deleted. He couldn't handle to challenge to your point about Darfur, which I found VERY interesting. I didn't know that about France selling them arms...

I understand in part your comment but a lot that use WIC (not all) would be feeding their babies kool aid because it was cheaper instead of milk and juice so the program fullfills a tremendous need within the community. Working with children and young families within the church family, schools, and within the early childhood field, I see horror stories and so many times it's not because the parents don't care it's because of 2 things: lack of funds and lack of education. WIC isn't intended to fully feed a child or family nor is it intended to take the place of a mother's choice. It is intended to supplement and teach good nutrition. I do understand, truly, I don't like the government sticking it's nose into my business, running a family child care, the government does that entirely too much, so you're preaching to the choir! But I have seen the good WIC does and it has been around for 25 years now without growing and overstepping the boundaries put in place

I understand, I really do. The milk thing is something new that has just come out in the last year or so. Nutrition wise the thinking is for brain development, children under the age of 2 need the fat contained in whole milk. On the food program that I am required to be registered with being a licensed home provider, I MUST serve whole milk until the age of 2, after that it is my choice to serve whole, 2%, 1%, etc. As long as it's milk, I don't see the difference either but everyone has guidelines. I don't like government oversight either, lol, they get all in my business

"and it doesn't make the facts any less facts"

I tend to like all of the facts. Places like those have a vested interest, and indeed exist, solely to market one side of the facts in order to advance an agenda. It's no better than a liberal policy org doing it.

I just don't like being marketed to.

Hey! Its been a while...mostly my fault...Anyways, how are you? I've been in Texas for the past couple of weeks on my new internship assignment. Been very busy....I didn't realize how different energy development was with an oil company...Ive spent the last 2 weeks with my nose in reservoir engineering books trying to learn the gist of natural gas wells, and optimizing their use....Anyhow please let me know how things are going....I can't get on wral at work b/c of the firewall so if possible shoot me an email...if you dont have it anymore let me know and we'll figure something out..i might still have yours..also, since I've added an econ double major and have gotten deep enough into it to make pretty well-researched arguments I wanted to discuss with you what I now feel is the paradox of fiscal conservatism...For a long time I always thought I was liberal but fiscally conservative and I think I remember you saying you were in a somewhat similar stance so It'd be fun to discuss! :-)

Don't worry about Steve, didn't you know that he was perfect. The more I see him post the more I realize that he has some major issues. I think he is the "one that flew over the cookoo's nest."

Your story brought tears to my eyes! I am so glad to hear that things worked out for you.

What you go thru in life make you the wonderful person you become. Im glad things are working out for you, you deserve it!

Hello, I actually read more than I comment but I did want to comment on your blog about what led you down the road to being homeless. Although you received a lot of positive comments I guess I was surprised at some of them. I guess I never realized that perfect people lived on this earth (no mistakes, etc.) Praise God for your past "storms" because without them you wouldn't be able to help others going through similiar circumstances. Congrats on being able to tell your story.

I just want you to know that I read your blog and it really made me think about some things and also be grateful for the life I have been blessed with. Thank you for sharing!

Tomatoe bisque and tuna mixed with greek yogurt

Is this something you make or just bought? Sounds good.

You were brave to share your story this morning. Thank you.

hey! I'll definately shoot you an email...probably from work tomorrow if I can find a gap. And most importantly, I'm in Houston! I work for exxonmobil in their office Greens Road....I'm currently living in Champions off FM 1960...I'll be here until the end of May and then return again in the middle of August until Christmas....sounds weird saying that so soon after Christmas '08. If you decide to come to Houston between those time frames let me know!! You can maybe show me around the area since I'm still learning my way. I actually just took my first trip downtown earlier tonight.... :-) Talk to you soon!

You were on my mind yesterday. I was thinking about your testimony. You stay blessed and continue to share your story. Someone will be blessed. Happy Friday to you!!!

Tidbit..hi there..love/loved your stimulus blog..sorry some of us shifted it to immigration.

Hope you have a great week!!!!!

WOW, that is going to be a nice and long vacation!

Other than that Pro choice thing I think I love you (in a purely virtual and platonic way). Don't lump me in with the "progressives"!

Hey Lady! You doing okay today?

"take action against the so-called-stimulus bill"

Thanks. It's a done deal!

I don't recall ever coming across the 3rd AD in Vietnam. Perhaps they were keeping a low profile.

Our paths did cross occasionally in Germany in the 60's, usually at Grafenwoer near the Fulda Gap and the Czech border. I was with the 8th ID (Abn) at the time, headquartered at Bad Kreuznach, about 50 miles SW of Frankfurt.

But judging from your profile, I doubt your hubby was there. Seems to me I recall that several regiments of the 3rd AD were folded into the 1st Cav. Not sure if that was before or after they were deactivated.

As for the "stimulus" bill, I doubt many of its critics have even read it. Whether you characterize it as stimulus or pork no doubt depends mostly on who you voted for in November. I tend not to take most of the criticism very seriously at this point. There will be plenty of time for that after the fact.

"I don't think it depends on who you voted for at all. I think it depends on what you view as appropriate spending."

My point here is simply that those who voted for Obama probably disagree with those who voted for McCain about what is "appropriate".

My larger point, though, is that no one really knows how, or how much, this bill will impact our economy, either in the short run or the long run. The economists who argue pro and con are the same ones who didn't see this crisis coming in the first place (which is to say, all of them). To rely on their "expert opinion" now seems pointless to me.

It isn't that I don't care about what happens in Washington. I care very much. But we the people don't, and shouldn't, democratically decide on the merits of every bill. We elect representatives to do that. And we just elected new ones. I think we should let them do what we elected them to do. If we don't like the results, elect new ones next time.

Why do you even argue with Mordeus and the Obama Collective? Every time he writes something he just convinces me he is a poseur of the highest order and is incapable of independent thought. They all are. They are nothing more than sheep.

Keep up the good work Tidbit. I'm sure that my reps are getting ready to block my email address! I'm sick of being the statue and "them" being the birds.

Tidbit - I challenge you to prove your ridiculous statement, i mean you can just continuing assuming it and making an azz out of yourself, but that is up to you! Me, I like to be able to back up what i say and not just be luke warm wind! I challenge you Tidbit to try and prove this ridiculous statement of yours:

The fact of reality is, the majority of volunteers and chartiy given throughout the year? PRimiarily - those right wing cooks you keep making fun of. Funny that isn't it? The liberals love to tell us how we're suppose to help... but it's the conservatives that DO most of the helping. -- Tidbit

I know I'm right, I've already done the work. You want to prove me wrong and give me the opportunity to see another side - give me proof. The ball was in your court. You are either man or woman enough to handle it or not.

Clearly not. -- Tidbit

Okay, i will. Frankly I find Arthur Brooks to be very doubtful and think he abused his figures and went beyond the numbers. but it did get him in the limelight and to meet the president and sure sold a lot of books!

but for today - work calls.

You do have some residual anger and frustration issues. I encourage you to seek counseling and professional help. I know it can be very difficult in dealing with the psychological issues and after-effects of homelessness and socio-economic problems. Especially if this happened while you were a parent a young child. (Not sure if your hard times were before or after parenthood.) I wish you well in dealing with these issues. I know it can be tough. If you need anything, youc an talk to me.

Now that we are past your anger and emotionalism, Brooks has been the face of this for 2 years and especially the past month - see his WSJ article - but despite his assurances that his research was dispassionate and not partisan, he has admitted that he cut out information ad punched it up for sales potential. And he is currently president of American Enterprise Institute - a conservastive think tank. me thinks his agenda is showing. I say this as everyone should examine bias and agenda.

I am impressed and excited to hear about your personal research and would love to read or hear more.

My questioning of your statement is not that the left or liberals are more giving than conservatives - i think people are people and most want to help. Regardless of political view.

I don't understand the anger at Obama talking about and encouraging volunteerism. Just talking about how people should do something DOES NOT mean that the speaker thinks you are not.

"it's hard, it's not your fault, someone should be responsible and someone should be made to help you" mentality. -- Tidbit

Where DID ANYTHING I SAY - fit into this statement?

i will answer it for you, nothing did. but the right for some reason seems to feel the need to defend themselves. In the mangled words of shakespeare - "methinks you doth protest too much."

Talking abou tthe need to do something by people does not imply you are not doing it. Just like a preacher preaching to do something - it doesnt mean that the whole church are not doing it - just that they should.

I hope we can get over and past this. I look forward. I seriously would love to see your research and thoguhts. but i disagree with your proposition.

Thanks for a calmer response. Good morning. I disagreed with yout point - i never condemned you. Big difference.

See there you go with your nasty assumptions again. You know, one of these days, it is going to get you into some serious trouble. You want to act like an intellectual, but your really just a judgemental..... anyway - I guess it slipped the realm of possibilities that I was actually AT WORK and In Meetings or Heaven forbid DOING my job and I didn't get back to be able to do anything online till much later and by then the blog was not even on radar........

Of course - that wouldn't have even crossed your mind. You were too busy making assumptions.

I would have been happy to correct it HAD I SEEN IT... Tidbit

Yet, somehow with your work, meetings and job - you STILL logged in to GoLo and commented. And yet, despite having now seen it - you STILL have not corrected the misinformation. Despite you saying you would be happy to. My point is still correct.

Now, I dont know what issues you have or have had. But I have not condemned you. I have never claimed to be intellectual, that is just something you keep saying and assuming. Something you keep trying to force onto whatever misconception and assumption you have about me. So, take a deep breath and try to keep your assumptions relevant!

And you like to say you deal in "facts"? Really? Really?

facts are what I deal in. not beliefs, not "feelings".. - tidbit

Honey you are preaching to the choir! I know all too well what she is going through. Life isn't fair, but what can we do? You can't keep going around feeling down because no one is handing your anything. You just have to believe in yourself and go out and get it!

She'll be fine!

I am so ready to move!

Yeah, I think I will enjoy it too! LOL I love the hot weather! I'm going to try and get there in April to look for a place. Are there any bad sides of town? LOL

Is Bryan better than CS?

Okay, CS sounds like a better fit for me! I do like rural areas but I want to be around stores and parks.
