about obscurite
Some quotes that I believe:
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"- Ben Franklin
"Our major obligation is not to mistake slogans for solutions." and "A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." Edward R Murrow
"When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow." Anais Nin
"Religious experiences which are as real as life to some may be incomprehensible to others. " William O Douglas
And BTW, the picture is my adopted cat at the CPT.

I've been to CPT! It's been a few years ago but we toured the place with a group we belonged to, at the time. Really interesting place!
Hope you have a good New Year!

It could be argued, I suppose, that one would be somewhat "nuts" to follow the Salafi school of jihadism to begin with...

True and I wouldn't take that position, either.
I have a good friend named Majdhi Abu Nasser from Lebanon originally, that lived in Kuwait with his father up until Saddam invaded back in the winter of 90. His father was an engineer officer in the Kuwaiti Army and for years he loaded up dead Iraqi and Iranian soldiers that floated down the river - he would pile them in a dump truck and take them back across the boarder - probably the worst possible job on Earth.
Majdhi (or Jimmy as he liked to be called)often told how his father moved his family to the US before Saddam invaded (they all knew it was going to happen) so they could "be Americans".
Man - some of the stories he told about growing up in Lebanon would curl your hair...sending five kids out with one AK - fight till one gets shot then send the next kid to pick it up and fight till he got shot then send the next kid, etc...

83- 87 - Army - I never made it to active duty (as an officer) because Graham-Ruddman-Hollings kicked in the year I got my commision and I was sent to the IRR.
I got a butter bar (2LT) released on the same day. I was supposed to serve an 8 year hitch and only served 3 years and 7 months...I was branched "engineering" so all the combat arms officers got first choice and I got "laid off" so to speak.
I never got called back up by '92 so I was "free"...
And I think our "difference" regarding scripture is semantic in nature.
There are instances of warfare and violence that Christians should see as historical context within the The Books. There are not current scriptures that are part of the canoniacal doctrines teaching Christians to commit acts of war in God's name.
In the Koran, there are passages that call for violence against any and all un-believers, without "interpretation" needed...

"Step 4: Prom makes comment out of context...
Step 5: Clover agrees with Prom..."
1) How was my comment put of context? Who in the modern world is waging war based on the teachings of Moses and justifying those acts of war with scripture versus?
2) Since when do "Christians" follow Mosaic (i.e Jewish) law?
The "Moses" comment was not a good effort on your part...
