Hi there John. Hope you stay safe up there and out there or where there they sending you. I keep cheacking out the miner's cam to see when your snow starts. Be glad when you are able to chat more. Did I hear that Senator Barr (never had heard of him before) is stepping up into the independent plate......... What cha feel about that....I think it's a little too late.........

...and the news reports talk of 7 dollar a gallon gasoline in 4 years!!! Somehow, the price of gas in Alaska must NOT be making news! Wishing you a safe travel to CA and back, if you go. It must be grand there this time of year. Have a superb weekend and take care. Peace always!

Hey Yukon, I haven't seen you around lately, I hope all is well with you and yours.

Do you know any Frye's that lived on Saunders in Aberdeen? Larry or Gary Frye that went to Pinecrest? They were born in 1956. Larry joined the Navy right out of school in 1974.. They were twins but not identical twins.

Hey John! I miss you, big guy!!!!

Yukon,

How are you? We miss hearing from you, now that it's "working season".

Give a holler when you get time, and take care!

Terri

JOHN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ((((HUGS)))))))))))))

And one more thing before you sign off. Pencil me in for a GOLO profile when your work calms down and you've got time for a 30 minute phone chat. I'll call you, so don't worry! Have a great weekend. -Angela

Thanks I am and I hope you are too! When are you gonna be here in Oct? Do you know about the Birthday Bash Party??

I'll be sure to look ya up! Ever since this fire they ain't lettin nobody out of state! We got alot of rain last nite so it's lookin better every day. All they have been able to do is babysit it and flood it where they can cos it's burning so deep in the peat. I have a few pics on my image gallery on here. I'm fixin to head to the night shift briefing. Later!

It's so great to hear from you. I have missed you terribly, as I'm sure others have too. I've been doing quite well. I pulled my two months of hosting at Kerr Lake, but this is my last year of doing it. It takes me away from home too long, and there are other things I want to do with my summer. I will make a point to come see you if you make it down this fall, it would be nice to have a group gathering. Take care of your self and get some much needed rest. We love you in NC!!! ((((HUGS))))

I'd LOVE to! However money is kind of tight right now since I'm in school. Bleh But that may be a good graduation present! Have a great day and stay safe!

Nice to hear from you dude. The fires have been aweful out west, glad you survived...seems like 2-3 did not. Golo has been kinda silly lately, not very political. Folks just are not happy with the choices...me neither. I look forward when your life becomes more "normal", and we can chat better....jack

"Hi, I am from Fairbanks, but work out west in the bush."

I remember Fairbanks! It's been a little while since I was there, though. 1952 I think it was... Spent more time down on the Kenai Peninsula around Soldotna and Seldovia.

Be careful out there - Nature's a stern old lady with a nasty backhand sometimes!

Glad to see you back John. Stay safe out there.

Dude, I honestly did not know that!! thanks for keeping me abreast.

lol... great coomment on tmeds blog!

glad to see you're alive and well...we were concerned after that chopper crash!

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii John!

Hey Yukon: Can't wait to see you post something about your governor becoming the VP candidate for McCain. Let me know when you post so I can have a look and possibly highlight it. You're our inside man on this one. I do believe I remember you mentioning her several times before. Angela

"It actually did portray many of their characters to be VERY MUCH like many Alaskans."

I'm especially partial to the quirky ones.

My comments about the presidential race weren't meant to show a preference (not that I don't have one). I was just handicapping the race as I see it developing. IMO, the is no right or wrong reason to vote for a candidate. Our right to choose is absolute. It's up to each candidate to give voters reasons for choosing him/her.

BTW, according to Ted Stevens, the tubes for the internet now reach all the way to Alaska. So we'd love to hear from you even at times when you're not visiting the Tar Heel State.

Yokon__I personally owe you an apology for not taking you seriously on your governor. I have been reading her biography and I am impressed. I wanted to let you know I am humbly eating crow...........

How ya been yukon? Things have calmed down heere firewise in NC. Got my div sup task book signed off so I pretty happy. take care and look at this...it may make you laugh...every wildland ff I have sent this to has been rollin! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC7_iFZeJm4

I like her because she and I are very much alike in that we call it as we see it and aren't shy to mince words. So are you buried under snow yet, or are you still fending off mutant mosquitoes?

Thanks for the info on your Governor. I really like her. McCain's picking her, has probably energized me like no other pick could have.

Good to see you blogging again!

I'm so happy to see you back, although I know it's short lived, but you'll be back for the winter, right?

I am telling folks that I still won't vote for John McCain for president - but I WILL vote for Sarah Palin for VP.

My dad is going to get some bumperstickers made that say "Vote Sarah Palin for Vice President" and some that say "Vote for Sarah Palin and the old guy".

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you have to go to New Orleans or wherever it comes inland, but the probabilities are high for NO. I would love to see you if you come to NC. Be sure to give me a holler, and I'll be on my way to Moore County, and that's a guarantee!! Take care, my friend!!

Hey Yukon. good to hear from you on the blogs.

Hey John, nice to see you posting again! Are you back or just visiting? :o) Looks like there are some wicked storms out in the ocean..looks like gustav can't make up his mind just where he wants to go. Hope everythings been going great for you. Take care,Marlene

Enjoy your 'layoff'. I imagine you will be headed to the gulf. It sure is looking that way. Funny enough here in Atlanta we don't get the blow by blow on hurricanes like I did when I was in Raleigh. I actually have to look the info up.

You stay safe!

Yo, Yukon - good to see you back! I was very interested to hear your take on Palin as the VP nominee. Keep us posted, will you, and take care!

BTW, wish I had thought of it a couple of weeks ago... our good friends are in AK for a month long vacation, and just called from Fairbanks this past Sat. morning. I might have hooked you all up, as you and Wayne would have common ground... he retired from Soil & Water Conservation in a northeastern NC county, and also has extensive timber experience. Would've made for a nice "touch of home" for you all.

Terri

john i lived in fairbanks for 3 years.

Hi John! I hope you have had a good holiday. Mine has been great. I'm suppose to leave Friday on vacation up to the lake, but hurricane Hanna may nip it in the bud. I'm looking forward to laying in my hammock and doing nothing, but we'll see. Catch up with us next time you're home! (((((HUGS))))))

Like my avatar?

My Alaskan dude friend, me and da dog will be just fine...there is already a breath of fresh air in our lives. I respect so much who you are as a man and our political stuff here...jack

Hey there, John!

I've missed ya!

Hey my friend!!! It was so great hearing from you! I've certainly missed you and wondering how your summer has been? When will you be home for the winter? Is your weather drastically changing yet?

Thanks for the well wishes. I hope we don't have to deal with the mess the hurricane brings either and maybe this one won't be so bad. I'm prepared to ride it out as I don't "run away" unless it reaches a Cat 3.

You take care of yourself, John, and again, it was so good hearing from you!

Hey there YukonJohn! I figure you're about the best one to ask about honest firsthand experience regarding all things Alaska... I *think* that Palin is a good choice based on my limited knowledge and info; what do you and folks up your way think of her as a leader? I ask since I was used as a resource for folks in Ohio last winter regarding NC opinions on John Edwards. Thanks in advance!!! Enjoy the Autumn...

YukonJohn...I sure do like the lady from your way...How have ya been?

Thankyou for the info! She really presented herself quite well last night. I had also heard of her libertarian views, but can't really say that's all that bad! I'm sure when you lead a state (and population) that has a strong history of taking care of itself, it is only natural to lean libertarian.

Heya John,

If Palin is like you say, then she's making a big mistake running what appears to be a hard right stance. She'd win over way more voters (and likely, more women) if she were running as a softer candidate. I get the feeling that McCain is having her run that way, whether she believes in it 100% or not.

This may wind up being her undoing... and that's a bummer if she's not completely committed to the neoConservative, fundamentalist Christian stance.

Thanks for your views, as always!

I had heard rumblings months ago that McCain was considering her as a running mate so I had done some research (I don't like to swallow what the media is dishing out without checking for myself) and I really like what I found out. I think the country needs someone like her and I was thrilled when McCain did chose her and wasn't surprised as so many seem to be. My friend is a native Alaskan, like I said, and she is a staunch Palin supporter. I don't think we are going to ever find a candidate that we can support 100% of their views 100% of the time. It's not possible. I've been married 21 years and hubby and I don't always agree. I think voters should chose a candidate they can respect and that has character and backbone. One that can take a stand and not back down, one that will fight for what they believe is right. I believe McCain and Palin both have those qualities.

John!

I'm glad you're back. When you have time, I'd love to hear what the rumblings are from up your way re: the Anne Kilkenny letter about Sarah Palin.

I realize it has been verified, but what's the deal with this Kilkenny woman?

Does she seem legit, or is there some axe-grinding going on?

I fear posting about it out on the main blogs, because it'd just be a big old fight.

Take pictures, john. ;)

I like a good bar brawl. At least it's honest, and you know who you're up against. hehehe!

What do you think about the book banning stuff? I mean, if Palin was entertaining such ideas, that'd be sorta scary to me.

I wish she'd agree to an interview, or something.

Oh! re: the redistribution of the surplus... I have to say I'd like to get money back from the state of NC, but I reckon I'd like it more if the state were energy independent.

Was this really a viable option for Alaska, though? I mean, if the redistribution had not occurred, would Alaska be energy independent now?

I know you all pay a fortune for gas and oil, so I can fully see why the people would want the money back.

Come to think of it, I reckon, in that climate, with those bills, anyone would want the money back.

Which gets me to wondering how she got that 80% approval rate. ;)

I wasn't going to vote for him before but now, with Palin, I am. She's great! I'd love to see her as our first female President.

Thanks for the note, is it cooling off up there yet? Some how I bet it is... Have a good one!
