I remember Fairbanks! It's been a little while since I was there, though. 1952 I think it was... Spent more time down on the Kenai Peninsula around Soldotna and Seldovia.
Be careful out there - Nature's a stern old lady with a nasty backhand sometimes!

I'm especially partial to the quirky ones.
My comments about the presidential race weren't meant to show a preference (not that I don't have one). I was just handicapping the race as I see it developing. IMO, the is no right or wrong reason to vote for a candidate. Our right to choose is absolute. It's up to each candidate to give voters reasons for choosing him/her.
BTW, according to Ted Stevens, the tubes for the internet now reach all the way to Alaska. So we'd love to hear from you even at times when you're not visiting the Tar Heel State.

My dad is going to get some bumperstickers made that say "Vote Sarah Palin for Vice President" and some that say "Vote for Sarah Palin and the old guy".

BTW, wish I had thought of it a couple of weeks ago... our good friends are in AK for a month long vacation, and just called from Fairbanks this past Sat. morning. I might have hooked you all up, as you and Wayne would have common ground... he retired from Soil & Water Conservation in a northeastern NC county, and also has extensive timber experience. Would've made for a nice "touch of home" for you all.

Thanks for the well wishes. I hope we don't have to deal with the mess the hurricane brings either and maybe this one won't be so bad. I'm prepared to ride it out as I don't "run away" unless it reaches a Cat 3.
You take care of yourself, John, and again, it was so good hearing from you!

If Palin is like you say, then she's making a big mistake running what appears to be a hard right stance. She'd win over way more voters (and likely, more women) if she were running as a softer candidate. I get the feeling that McCain is having her run that way, whether she believes in it 100% or not.
This may wind up being her undoing... and that's a bummer if she's not completely committed to the neoConservative, fundamentalist Christian stance.
Thanks for your views, as always!

I'm glad you're back. When you have time, I'd love to hear what the rumblings are from up your way re: the Anne Kilkenny letter about Sarah Palin.
I realize it has been verified, but what's the deal with this Kilkenny woman?
Does she seem legit, or is there some axe-grinding going on?
I fear posting about it out on the main blogs, because it'd just be a big old fight.

I like a good bar brawl. At least it's honest, and you know who you're up against. hehehe!
What do you think about the book banning stuff? I mean, if Palin was entertaining such ideas, that'd be sorta scary to me.
I wish she'd agree to an interview, or something.

Was this really a viable option for Alaska, though? I mean, if the redistribution had not occurred, would Alaska be energy independent now?
I know you all pay a fortune for gas and oil, so I can fully see why the people would want the money back.
Come to think of it, I reckon, in that climate, with those bills, anyone would want the money back.
Which gets me to wondering how she got that 80% approval rate. ;)
