Had a friend who went to Pinecrest that I believe...went to my church in SouPines. Joel Kennedy. Nice dude. Met him at Camp Easter In The Pines where we both were counselors for the summer seessions for handicapped children and adults. Heck of a first summer out of high school, but it was a good experience. I learned a lot about people, what to be thankful for and overall it was just a good experience. I think it's gone now, the St. Josephs in the Pines rest home/assisted living facility is now about where I can remember Camp Easter as being located. Been a long time ago though. :) Have a good Sunday there too. Keep them wild fires out!

Hey John - I hope you are having a good spring. It has been really nice down here these past 2 months.

OK john I need another website for some Alaska scenery. LOL I am seeing nothing but a bare parking lot lately. LOL I'm messing with you. I have been watching a set of bald eagles hatch and tend to the chick. It's neat. When does the snow show back up that way. How are things going. I'm not on much and I miss blogs. Just checking and wanting to wish you and your loved one a good week ahead.

Hey John!

Make sure you let me know when your going to be this way! I'll plan a get together!

Warmin up there yet?

I would love to go! Just don't have time or money right now :( But someday I will! :D

Hey John - thanks for the bday wishes. How is your busy season going? Happy Mother's Day to your special lady!

Hey man! We had some nasty stuff going on in places yesterday. The town my business was in ( sold it ) had a tornado yesterday and I can't find out any local info on it - just happened to see it on National News of all things.... None of the local stations have details but 2 schools are closed, at least one church destroyed, 2 critically injured, and GRAPEFRUIT size hail. They did not have details on local stations but the weather guy said he can never remember grapefruit size or softball size hail in NC..... We had a few downpours here - I am 25 miles away from where this all took place....... I think there are 5000 or so without electricity in that county (Bertie) I am going down there today and see what is happening. Have a great day my friend !!

Good morning! Thank you very much for commenting on my gasoline prices!! blog. Even if you don't live in NC, it is good to know what gasoline prices are elsewhere. I can't imagine gasoline at $5.25 a gallon now in the U.S. I know it's coming...only a matter of time. Again, thanks for the comment. Wishing you the best of this week!! With Ernest regards,

Hey John, my buddy! It's always great to "hear" your smiling voice. You are missed! The weather has been a little wild here, plenty of rain and lots and lots of wind.

Hope you are doing well. Take care, my friend.

I finally talked with someone who could give me some detail and of course the news had it bass ackwards. There was a tornado in Lewiston or a serious downdraft. It moved across toward Colerain and stayed tree top level (snapped a few pine tops out). I can't seem to find out where the grapefruit hail was... Oh well - I think we faired better than they did in the mid west. It wiped out quite a few houses in 'central or mid' Ga.

Those mosquitos sound attrocious !!! worse than no-see-ums. What do you use to keep them off of you?

You wouldn't think you would have an insect problem there after such a harsh cold spell. I guess that must be an old wives tale. We don't have a problem with the little ones around here but I guess the hurricanes blew some in a couple of years back and if one of them gets a hold of you, you need to call Red Cross. Big whoppin things. Take care friend.

I was fishing down at Hoebucken one day and we got into some drum, redfish, red bass just whatever you want to call them. Anyway, we stayed out until just about 10 minutes before sunset and ran into a patch of mosquitos like you were talking about. I couldn't hardly see to get the boat on the trailer..... We usually would stop on the way home go out to eat..... we were bitten so much in that one maybe 10 minutes we just came home. I tried everything from baking soda in bath water to calamine lotion. They were the worst I ever encoutered except sand fleas at the beach at Cape Lookout.

Wow! It's hard to imagine how gasoline gets to Alaska when one hears about the Alaskan pipeline. Also, it's hard to imagine that gasoline somewhere in the US will cost over $7 a gallon. But, I guess, eventually it will trickle on down to the southern US! The money spent on gasoline takes a lot out of the family budget and one can't do what one used to do. How about the electric rates....are they in line or are they about to go up? Have a good day and night in the land of the midnight sun!! "Ernies" are usually good people! With Ernest regards,

Hey! Is it still cold up there? When's that global warming supposed to kick in? Just kidding... What do you think about the Liberatarian candidate - Bob Barr(sp?) Wonder why Ron Paul didn't take the nod on that nomination? Do you know?

Good Morning John! Hope you have a great day.

good morning!

happy hump day :-)

sorry, john, but the idea we can just sit back and wait for Iran to start lobbing nuclear missles around is dangerously naive. Period.

We've been down the "drug war" path before, so I won't dwell on that one. If you want to take the position we should put money in Osamas pocket, you go ahead. Sounds funny, though, coming from the guy who doesn't like us giving money to the Saudis for oil.

Good luck and be safe.

john - you know I disagree with elcid on a lot of things, but his blog a while back about why Obama can NOT win was dead on.

Unless McCain screws the pooch (which is very possible), Obama is politically DOA. He's only carrying about 30% of the white vote. He simply can't win with that, even if conservatives stay home.

Hey John! I had a friend that visited Alaska last year. He brought me a moose hoof that was painted with a beautiful Alaskan scene. I cannot begin to imagine the scenery there! How did you end up there, anyway?

I would like to know how Alaskans feel about drilling for oil. But don't really want to have to look it up. Tell me how they feel, Yukon.

Awesome story John! It's so good to read your blogs and posts. Sounds like a wonderful life.

Beautiful pic, Yukon. Thanks for the answer. My daughter did a paper on the carribou that were kept warm and had their babies beneath the pipelines. However, I would hate to be pro drilling in Alaska if the people that were living there would be effected by it and were against it.

Hey Yuon, My daughter was there with the First Baptist Church there, not with Whitestone(I've not heard of them)We have a friend there that's the associate pastor. She went up there for 2 weeks and helped with Vacation Bible school.

sorry Yukon, I can't type tonight

Greetings from "back home", John! Just wanted to say hello and send you well-wishes from a windy NC. I've been catching up on your blogs, and am enjoying my little "excursion" to AK, without having to leave the house.

Take care, be safe, and keep in touch!

Terri

YeeeeHaaaaaaw! ~*doing the Friday shuffle*~ Long weekend,long weekend,long weekend,long weekend,long weekend!!!! Happy Memorial Day!!

Mornin' John...Good to see you're slive and kicking. Just started a sprinkle here at the trailer. Wanted to ride the bike abit this afternoon if clears off, over thru the roads from 42 west of Sanford to High Falls, over to Robbins and then Star, on to the Okeeweeme Rd from there to Troy. I know you've heard of the "Tail of the Dragon" road up on the NC/Tenn border...Nirvana for motorcyles...anyway, I like to call this the "Tail of the Lizard"...since it's not so threatening as the "Dragon" but it still is fun to cruise when you get a chance. When you visit home, you need to rent a bike and get and ride some down here. And this is bike weather!!! WHooo Whooo Take care, have a great Memorial Day!

I'll take snakes over cold weather any day! Glad you're having a great weekend. It sounds beautiful where you are. I'm heading to home Depot later today to stock up for all the yard work I need to do. I'm sure there are no snakes around, cause the rabbits are eating my garden!

Good Morning John! I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I have some little flags...going to the cemetery and find some soldiers and give 'em a flag.

then back to Galena for the summer.

John - I am happy that you got to spend time with your family!! Have a super weekend!!!

Good Morning...you.....It has been a month of Sunday's since I talked with you. Hope you are doing well. How's the weather?

Hey John, Just got up from a nap. Planned on doing yard work, but it was raining when I got up..such bad luck :o). I hope you enjoy the weekend. Remember to stay safe! Marlene

TY John on the comments on the motorcycle blog. I hope some of these comments and blogs may help someone somewhewre either on a bike or when meeting one on the road, do the right thing. If it helps just one person, it's worth the effort!

Hey John! You're on my mind this Memorial Day weekend and I hope it will be a wonderful one for you. Hope all is well? Sure do miss you - your emails and posts. And the pictures - your pics are the best! Be safe, my friend, we'll look forward to Labor Day when you'll be back with us full time! May God bless and take care of you!

Thanks for your comment. Our son John lives near you at Wainwright. He is the one leaving in the fall. He will be home on block leave on the 2nd. I think the only way I have handled any of this is God. I dont see how others do it woith out him. Have a blessed day. Steph

John Me and hubby have some ??? for you about Ak. When you get a chance can you e-mail us...mytupper@yahoo.com. Be safe

Hey John - how are you? Have you seen many fires?

That is what I have heard about her. THAT is exactly what we need in the White House.... EXACLY

Hi Yukon, where have you been?!! You've been gone so long people think you're new to GOLO!

hey! I saw an interview with Sarah Palin this morning - you're right, she's pretty sharp!

I miss you bro, come back and visit.

Hey John - welcome back!!

Hey John, just visiting?? LOL. I'm watching the race..don't care for road courses. I think the baseball game comes on at 7:00. Hope you and yours are doing great! We miss you.

I've heard of quite a few boater that just aren't going out..too expensive. We live real close to Kerr Lake...still see the boat boys at the motels(that what I call them..they have their big trucks and boats)for weekend tournaments...I guess they have sponsors or they have more money than we do :o)

no fires...

no fires is a good thing!? Is your pay based on number of fires? Take care brave friend...

Good morning, John!! How's the weather and the price of gasoline? Gasoline here in Halifax County ranges from 3.999 to 4.099 for regular unleaded. Hope all is well. Wishing you the best of today. With Ernest regards,

Hi there John. Hope you stay safe up there and out there or where there they sending you. I keep cheacking out the miner's cam to see when your snow starts. Be glad when you are able to chat more. Did I hear that Senator Barr (never had heard of him before) is stepping up into the independent plate......... What cha feel about that....I think it's a little too late.........

...and the news reports talk of 7 dollar a gallon gasoline in 4 years!!! Somehow, the price of gas in Alaska must NOT be making news! Wishing you a safe travel to CA and back, if you go. It must be grand there this time of year. Have a superb weekend and take care. Peace always!
