Some one told me about renting 4x4 and hitting the trials. They said that a group will have camp set up at points along the trial. When we take vacations we like to do it right, getting to old to do it wrong . . .

Hey, John! Good to see you posting again. (Although maybe you've been constant and I haven't noticed because I've been gone.)

How's the economy up there? You never know if we decide to relocate....

Hello there big guy. How is my favorite Alaskan doing? ((((hugs)))) from NC.

Hey John !

Thats it.

Im coming to visit you.

Let me know when you got my ticket LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOPE ya have a GREAT weekend :)

Hiya darlin. Nothing yet. My old employer was just approved for the Trade Adjustment Assistance. SO I am trying to look into going back to school for Radiation Technology. I don't know if they will approve me or not. I already have a BA degree. The woman at ESC said I probably would not be approved because I am "marketable". But she also said to apply anyway. Worse case they say no. SO I am going for it.

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh;

u whoooooooooooooooooooooo

GUESS what I got yesterday ???????????????????????????????

YOU ARE THE BESTESTESTESTESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!

Tell Santa I said hi when you see him! Gonna go view it here at work and show everyone.

Thank you again John!

My Saturday is going ok. Could be better. The rain could disappear already. I have seen enough of it. Hope that you are having an awesome day. Even if it is cold.

Hey John,I have never meet you, sure hope to dpo so one day.I enjoy reading your blogs and have heard so much about you on here from others.Yes it is a rainy day and miserable.Wished we had the snow that you have instead of the rain. You can keep the cold it is cold enough lol.Wishing you a blessed weekend.Stay warm.

Yep that is cold. I need a fireplace. I only want gas logs though. All of the ambiance and warmth with none of the work. LOL I think it would be a good time to crawl under the quilts. I hate cold weather. Those high 70's and 80 days last week made me crazy when it turned back cold.

GHood day to you buddy-- I searched the tv stations here and they are not showing anything on it. I am glad he's ahead, but watching them when they do show them on tv shows me that 4 hours is good but anything can happen. I wish they'd show them on tv here so we could get to see them. Here's hoping your buddy keeps in front and takes the trophy again........

If no one has gotten any closer by then, it will be off to the races for Lance.

Let's hope that he keeps the lead then. Sounds good. I wish they could put cameras on those sleds and let us watch them along the stretches on the runs. I'll be watching as some media will have footage I'm sure on TV somewhere. I think they are brave just to fight the Alaska elements on those runs. Sounds like the race is about over...How many days do they generally average to run this IOD race.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g3T59XZ0F9Sguh4zNxXoJ7CXqnVAD96TMI8G1

OH NO John. I just pulled this up from a few hours ago. Mackey went to sleep on his sled and is worried but he's still ahead...........................Wish I could watch it on TV.

When Mackey arrived in Anvik, he said he'd made a mistake on the trail that could end up costing him the race.

Mackey dozed off while riding his sled after leaving the Shageluk checkpoint on the way to Anvik, about 500 miles from Nome. When he awoke, he was up a slough without a trail marker in sight.

"I couldn't believe it," Mackey said. "It very well could have cost me the race right there."

Mackey was forced to do something every musher hates — turn the dog team around.

"When I turned them around they didn't dig that," he said. "It really demoralizes their attitude when you spin them around in the trail like that."

this is what he said.............

Yea john that's what I catch when the stations put some footage together and when they come in. I'm glad you mentioned it so I can be on the alert ofr it. I have seen them coming in but I had no idea mark was a close friend of yours. That's neat. I've been thought that had to be one rough race on the man but the dogs do love. I love to watch to watch them wired up ready to get that sled moving. Those dogs do so seem to enjoy being out there. You and the family have a good day

Very cool! Thanks for the link. I'm a big fan of streaming webcams online, particularly the Times Square cameras on earthcam.com and the pet/animal cams on camstreams.com

One more link for my bookmarks - thanks, yukonjohn!

Hi YukonJohn' It is an ugly day. It has rained all weekend. At least we will not have to worry about drought this summer. How long have you lived in Alaska? I would love to go up there. I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights.

john, I am fine. Have been out of town with family the last 4 days... no 'puter. The rain has finally quit...need to walk my doggie before darkthirty. I'll catch you later dude.

I was at a profile (?) earlier today, and there were some other pics of your trip to Blincos. It's your darn fault! Ha...but Blincos has become the official golo watering hole. I just picked it out because it was a short cab ride for me, and there was a cheap hotel next door. I will be moving this summer, but just a few miles. I would stay where I am at if I could get a roomie I knew and trusted...not likely, though I may blog one time asking. You take care, and stay warm, your pal.

Good evening John - I hope you are well. We have had some lovely spring weather in NC lately. There have been the usual end of season viruses going around.

How are you?

Yeah, retrospect reading kind of shows me that my little post may raise a few flags... haha.. pending editorial doctoring.

Hiya sweet John. I had an awesome weekend. Spent time with my soul sista. Just relaxed and had a great time. I hope you have a great week this week. ((((hugs)))) from NC to my favorite Alaskan.

Cool! I remember several years ago when auroras were visible from here in central NC for a week or so. I never saw any (that I know of -- I really didn't know what to look for, in terms of size, speed, and all that stuff). I bookmarked those cam sites, and I check them out randomly during the day. Thanks for the links! Here's to making it through Wednesday...

Good morning, John! Hope you're doing well & staying warm.

Got a favor to ask of you. Since your fueler (from an OLD conversation between you & I about a pic of yours) plays the mandolin - among other instruments - I'm curious as to what advice he might offer as I look for a decent starter mando. I play guitar, by ear, and pick things up very easily. I'm looking for bang for the buck here in terms of sound. I'll be playing folksy/country/bluegrass stuff. If you get a chance to share this with him, it would be greatly appreciated!

Take care up there!

Terri

Lolly suggested I drop by and say hello. I'm from Australia, I just joined up because I like the site. I'm new and still learning the ropes, so my profile is a bit bare. Classic rock music is good, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Fats Domino are some of my faves. Are you anywhere near that volcano that's blowing off some steam?

heck I missed your comment last night but I checked out the cam today. It's ten degrees there. Lordy mercy.. don't put up the long johns yet.

Hi John; That is a great picture on your profile. I teach at a community college. My BS is in Early Childhood Education. I am certified to teach K-5. When my ex left, I knew I needed computer skills so I went back to school to learn computer skills. I found that I really liked it. I got an AS in Information Systems Technology and started working on my Masters in Instructional Technology. I have to retake a class and my MS will be finished. I hated multimedia applications. It has no place in Continuing Education. My students are worried about learning how to use a computer. Many have lost their jobs and have enough to deal with. I think Flash is awaste of time and energy. My son is 21. He is still trying to find himself; I hope he survives. I was raised in WIlson. I left about 25 years ago. I lived in Rocky Mount while I was married. I moved back to Wilson at the end of 2006 because my Mom needs some help and is afraid to be alone. I would live in New York if I could afford it. See you.

cold, (ok 48 d) and rainy in Raleigh world. I should not complain. The metal in my neck tells me when it is cold/damp. I guess cold to you has a different meaning. as Buffet sang in a song, I just wanna go where its warm!

Morning! And thanks for the reply on the mandolin question. By all means, ask your friend if you remember to, but I'd hope to maybe have one by then (probably not... I have to research the absolute SNOT out of everything before I make a move!).

Have a great day pal!

Terri

Well darlin you almost having a heat wave up there. Almost warming up there enough for a visit. ;)

hello-- I just checked the cam. your're up to 28 I bet you do feel warmer. LOl What's your average summer heat up there? Do you have 4 seasons like us.

90-100 I never knew the temp went that high there. Interesting. I bet those polar bears get some good sunny days then. But your don't go through all 4 seasons as we do you. I'd think your seasons would range differently in springs and falls. Are they shorter.

Hey, is the volcano erupting again? I keep the Hut camera checked every so often and it's looks about the same as when it erupted the other night around 11-11:30 NC time.

Hi John; You might want to check into the local community college. We have a truck driving school at Nash. The cost is reasonable and you can usually get financial aid. Nash just got a new simulator. I haven't seen it yet. The company you work for might even pay for it. That would be great for you and it would be beneficial for them as well. Have a nice weekend.

Hey! I wanted to know if you got the new Yanni Voices CD. I know you had shown some interest when it was showing on PBS. I got it the day it came out...IT IS AWESOME! You should check out my review on my music group. Let me know what you think of it too.

Good morning John. Hope you have an awesome day today. ((((Hugs))))

john-- I'm getting to see Mackey run with the cameras keeping up with them. It is neat. I know now what happened that almost cost the race for him He over slept and he couldn't go on when he awoke because he had slept so long they had to count it as the 8 hour sleep they get to take. he had to take his very early into the race and he was afraid. But he won it anyway ...I love to see them dog enjoying that pull of that sled......Stay clear of those ashes. run like hello if you see rocks and lava.....................

It is very disturbing seeing news of the shooting in Carthage. I think that may be the one where my grandfather spent his last few months after a stroke. Thanks for the well wishes. I need some. (((((((((hugs)))))))))

Yokon this is on the sports station and it's neat they just showed him fighting -50 degrees blizzard. So glad I'm getting to watch it. He had to stop every so often and wipe the snow off the poor dogs eyes. Got to be hello out there in the wilderness all alone in that weather. I'm not going to pester you again today but I sure am enjoying being able to see the race

just wanted to say thanks for talking to my hubby last night and being nice to him,,he's ncdad,,I've been after him to get online some, He has an aversion to a computer. So thanks

Hey Sweetheart !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How in thee hale are ya? Hows the weather been? Better yet, how YOU doin? LOL

Miss ya!

Hi John;

I have not been on Golo this week. I do not do anything. My Mom is 75 and I stay with her. She is pretty good durning the day, but she gets very nervous when it starts getting dark. I have to teach a class on Monday nights starting next week. It gets dark at about 8:00 now. I will probably have to get my cousin to stay with her. It will be about 9:30 or 9:45 by the time I get home. Did you contact the local community college? I still have not seen the simulator at Nash. They have two trucks now. The weather is wonderful today. i have not even checked the forecast/ I do not care what the weather is like. Do you have any plans for the weekend?

John; I just read Jacks's blog. I hate I did not get to say goodbye. I know he is better off. he seems like such a good person. I really do not understand the complex nature of addiction; however, I do feel sorry for people who struggle. It can be such a cold, cruel world. I had no idea he was struggling with alcohol. My son is addicted to everything. he smokes, drinks, smokes pot, and I just learned he is addicted to pain medication. As I wrote to Jack, he started an outpatient program this week. I am afraid he is substituting one drug for another. I am terrified. I am afraid he will overdose. I find it alarming that more kids are dying from prescription drugs than street drugs. I do not have any medications. I am really worried about the future. It seems far too many people are addicted to alcohol, drugs, and whatever... Sorry to be a downer....

Hey John...Ca,e thru Carthage Saturday afternoon after a great ride out thru the country, up to Morrow Mtn, and about. As I came up on that church on the main drag (HWY 24/27) there was a funeral at the big white church right before uyou get to The Buggy Inn or Carriage House or whatever it's called now...anyhow, I didn't even think about the association of the funeral with the nursing home massacre until as I crept by with the other subdued traffic I saw the news media and their vehicles across the street. Somber sight. Kind of took some of the shine off my ride. It'll take time for the healing set in. Hope all is well for you and yours up there. I think they're calling for quite a bit of snow up in the stretch between Boone and Mt. Mitchell today and tonight. Kinda windy right now. Got to get out and get fixin's for The Game tonight. I woujldn't want to be anywhere near Franklin St. if the boys win. LOL :) GO HEELS !

Who is Studweiser? What happened?

It certainly is a shock. Studley was 28 or 29. I had only spoken with him via comments. It is a shame. I have not met any people from Golo. I have a class at 6 tonight. My schedule changes every few weeks. How is the CDL study going? What do you do? I know it is something to do with transportation for the state. How did you get to Alaska? I have always wanted to go there. I want to see the Northern Lights. I have done a couple of reports on them. Do you ever just sit back and enjoy them? That must beat looking for falling stars all to pieces.

Thank you for the wonderful link. I have added it to my Favorites. It was beautiful. You know each episode (I do not know what you call them right this second) is unique. The colors depend on the gases. It is fascinating to study them. I have been able to view them from a satellite's view. That was interesting. I still want to see them with my own eyes. I think this would be an excellent class. What a field trip!

Hiya darlin. Long time no chat. Hope you are doing well. Should be all kinds of warm up there now. What? 10 or15? ::::shivers:::: Sigh. Oh well. You are the man. You can handle all that cold. Me I would perish in 15 seconds. LOL Hot house flower that is me. Don't be such a stranger. ((((hugs))))

Been doing great. The thunderstorms were ok just sent my boys to my bed for the night. They don't do thunder well. LOL I go to the ESC today to submit paperwork for going back to school on the government. We will see how that goes. If I am approved I will begin school this summer for radiation technology. That should be good. Be safe out there. Glad to hear it is really warming up for you.

Dont know how, or why I was booted from GOLO. I went away for a day, and came back, and my commenting privilages had been revolked. I hope you will continue to be on my friends list on my new profile (conamor2).
