Our squash and cucumbers and okra and tomatoes and green peppers are all still small, but growing steadily. We added some miracle-gro last night, so maybe they'll take off growing soon.
OH! Do you have a topsy-turvy (upside down tomato planter)? Instead of buying some to try them, we made our own. Cut a hole in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket, stuck a tomato plant in it, added a filter thing around the tomato plant to keep it in the hole, and filled the bucket with dirt. Trying it just to see how well they grow upside down. Those topsy-turvy things are what -- $10-20 in stores??
I'm thinking we should have planted some smaller variety tomatoes. We put Park's Whoppers in the buckets!!! I can already imagine the vines will break under the weight...
Keep posting your pictures! Take care, headlong

Last year, he moved (or maybe he passed away?). So now the garden just sits there, growing over with weeds.

Hope your daughter is doing ok. So hard for teenagers to lose a friend, they all think that nothing will ever happen to them. Such a tragedy for the family and friends of this boy.

I know what you mean to about losing a child. For me, it's out of the natural order of things. A parent or grandparent, you kind of expect to have to go through that someday, but not one of your kids. I have friends who've been through it and I have no idea how they managed to put one foot in front of the other some days. So very sad.

I saw three small crookneck squash growing in our garden this evening. Didn't look at the peppers that closely, but the cucumbers are blooming like crazy! The tomatoes look like they want to start blooming soon, too. Now's when the deer and rabbits are going to take over I bet. I already saw a brown thrasher bird in the middle of the garden before sunset!

What kind of fertilizer, if any, do you use? Please help a novice! I would greatly appreciate it!
BTW, the zucchini blossoms are really good stuffed with cheese and fried! We had them in Italy, and all I can say is "Momma Mia!" Thanks!

Yes, the blossoms are soooo delicious: really light tasting. Stuff them with some ricotta cheese, then give them an egg wash, then dip them in Panko bread crumbs. You can either drop them into a pan with olive oil, or a deep fryer. Oh, soooo yummy. I'm waiting on mine to bloom, I don't like the zucchini, just the blossoms!
