Hey,this has been a very unusual day for me,don't know where the time has gone.It is dry and hot here and no rain in site,our garden is suffering even though we are watering it.Had a very nice weekend though hope you did as well.I'm sure you enjoyed having Scotts parents over.I need to go and pick my grandaughter up from the pool,she would stay all night if she could.(((((Hugs))))

Great pics again! Our squash plants aren't putting out much fruit anymore -- one never produced ANY!!! The tomatoes are starting to turn red, but several of them have blossom-end rot where the bottoms are black. I got a couple pics of the sunflowers in the backyard -- huge bloom on the one that bloomed already.

Good Morning,It is a new day and I hope yours will be a good one.We do complain if we get rain of it bein to much and coplain i it don't rain lol.We have not had rain in the last coupl of weeks and it is so hot.We are getting big beautiful tomatoes and cucumbers out of our garden and the beans are so good,fixing to cook some bens now for dinner.Hope Stephanie knee is doing a lot better and the prgress of healing is good.Try and stay cool today as it will be a hot one.LYMI ! Thanks for the email!! I think I also read somewhere that you can put crushed-up eggshells around the bottom of the tomato plant to help it. Something about calcium, I think. We've got two plants that have the blossom-end rot, one that is just turning completely brown, and the three in the 5-gallon buckets are doing fine for now -- one of them has 10 tomatoes on it, and it's such a little bitty plant! I'm hoping the weight of the tomatoes doesn't break the stem.

They are all really interesting, entertaining videos. In one she mentioned crushing egg shells, putting them in the oven to dry, and -- get this -- PUT THEM IN YOUR BIRDFEEDER! I couldn't believe it, but it makes sense. The birds need calcium, too!

Hey,glad you had a few days off but the little one was sick.Had rather be sick my self than see a child sick.Hope he/she is better soon.Very thoughtful of the mom not wanting you and your familky to get it and wanting to be at home with her sick child.That is what you call a real mom.We have not had rain now in over two weeks.Would be nice to have some rain our garden is beginning to look bad from all this heat even though we are watering it,not doing much good.My day has been so,so.My bath room flooded to day from busted pipe.Now hve to replace carpet in the hall,yeah,it was that bad.Your image gallery looks great with all those nice looking yellow tomatoes.They are the ones that I like.Low in acid.Wishing you a very good night (((((Hugs)))))

Hey,hope your day has ben good.Mine has been a busy one.Yes we did have a pipe to bust last year around this time last year.This pipe was at commode in bathroom this time.Not as much damange as we thought just going to have to replace carpet in hall.Remember all that painting we did back here this winter and replacing carpet lol.Thank goodnes it is just the hall.I know what you mean about your garden.Leaves turning brown and keeping them broke off.We are and have been getting beautiful tomatoes ,cucumbers and other stuff so much of it we are giving a lot of it away.Wishing you a happy 4th. It was a great weekend! I ate WAY too much, but what can I say? It was allll too good to pass-up.

Pumpkin update: About 5 inches tall now, with three leaves on each plant. Growing slowly, but surely -- just put some 10-10-10 around them yesterday. Hope it doesn't kill 'em! And getting ready to pull the first tomatoes off the hanging buckets -- bright orange ones on the Patio Tomato variety this evening, so shouldn't be too long now!

Keep going with the photo updates on your garden -- cool stuff to watch grow!

Hey,no we did not get any storms last night.It is cloudy here today and hope we will get some rain it is so dry here.We did get a drizzle this morning but nothing to brag about.Hubby went and got some squash seed this morning and planted them,hoping for early fall squash,sure hope we get some rain on them.My daughter in law found a recipe for squash and cheese and that was so good.Have you ever had squash and cheese ? Holy cow, headlong! Your pumpkin vines are huge. When do you usually "pick" the pumpkins off of it? I just checked mine, and they are growing pretty fast -- still only three leaves on each plant, but they are about half-a-foot tall now. I hope they'll be ready before Halloween!

"hve not been successful. I keep trying though" -- what part have you had problems with? I don't know what to expect. I read online that if you have only one or two pumpkins grow every year, you should try pollinating the blooms yourself by removing the male flower and (as weird as it sounds) sticking it in the female flower so the pollen can produce a pumpkin. Also, if you have squash nearby, you may end up with a pumpkin/squash hybrid.

That is so sweet of you to protect those kittens.Have a cat that had kittens,could not find them even though I looked hard untill I found them put them in the barn out of the weather and she moved them again.She brought them out from under the barn for me to feed them when they got older had a time tamming them lol.I can not believe Scottt had to fix four more break ins,don't know what is happening to people I hope o one was hurt.My neighbore had some one to steal gas out of his tractor last week.He ssaid heck they didn't have to steal it he would have give them gas if they needed it that bad.I don't know what this world is coming to,guess it will get worse before it gets better.Wishing you a good evening.You are a sweetie.

Great! These are little white spots with a tiny black spot in the center, so I figured it had to be a bug. But when I Googled, I got several links to powdery mildew.

I now need to search for the right combo on soap/water, though - I don't want to kill the plants!

Next thing you know, you'll be catching record-breaking marlins! LOL

I've only been fishing a couple times, but I never had any luck. I think I'll stick to photography and birding... speaking of which, we've got another mockingbird nest by the deck porch. I peeped in it this evening when the mother bird left, and I counted five just-hatched little ones. The Carolina Wrens that nested by the steps are getting ready to leave the nest soon, too. Another mockingbird nest by the fence in the back where we saw those two snakes today. I checked the nests, but I dont think the snakes had bothered it any.

The pumpkins! I bought some spectracide 3-in-1 fungicide/insecticide/plant feeder. I hope it works, I tested it on one plant to see if it would hurt it, but so far it's still alive. I read where it's about time for mine to take-off growing now. Fun stuff to watch! I need to transplant the ones I start in pots to the garden soon, though.
