about elcid89
With all of the complaining that goes on here (some of you honestly seem incapable of doing anything else BUT complaining ...), GoLo has become depressing.
With the general trend towards the banal and inane, GoLo has become a waste of my time.
What is it about this place, which has so much promise of bringing people together to discuss ideas and learn from one another, that it brings out the worst in people instead?
You'll forgive me if I take my leave of it.

Maybe so, but this email was sent LONG before this election. I saw this one several years ago, but after 9-11, of course. This email is more an attack on Muslims than an attack on Obama, at least originally.

Yeah, I tend to agree. I thought about it a little more, and even though it's an old email, it is re-surfacing now at quite the "convenient" time. Nothing like a little fear-mongering to scare people away from voting for someone.
What people NEED to be afraid of are Obama's new taxes and tax increases. If the economy is bad NOW, what effect will THAT have on it?

This was around the time when the internet company boom was happening (remember the "dot bombs"? this was back when they were still "dot coms"...) I think the economy continued to do well despite Clinton's taxes. I don't think Clinton helped or hurt what was happening around that time. He just benefited from it.

It's beginning to look a lot ... like ... Christmas ... lol"
I logged on too late to get in a post but wanted to respond to yours. What I find really amazing is how these conservatives think that they, and only they, have the correct answers to pressing problems and issues. Nobody other than them can possible have an alternative solution because, by default, if you are something other than a Republican, you are automatically a looney bird. They have done such and outstaning job over the last seven years on the national scene and yet still have the temerity to proclaim their righteousness. Merry Christmas, I'm with you on this one.

elcid, I do have one question: you stated "...to allow any child placement agency licensed by the state or any county social services department to agree to act...". Can these agencies still refuse to act as an intermediary due to privacy reasons or does this change compel the agencies to comply to requests?

You have fallen into the same trap that eco-wackos have been spewing for decades now -- fossil fuels are running out.
That is absolutely not true.
Yes, the supply of known reserves is finite, but the key there is known AND presently exploited. In the oil industry, a known reserve is one which has been found, in use, and fairly accurately measured. So that when we say there are 20 years of known reserves left, that does not mean that we are going to run out of oil in 20 years. It simply means that only our known reserves will last that long. There are trillions upon trillions of barrels of oil that we "know" are in the ground, but mostly for financial reasons we have not yet tapped. It is estimated that with existing technology alone, there are over 1,000 years of oil in the ground. And with future technology, who knows how much is really there. Remember, there is loads of oil under the Pacific; we just have no current means of drilling in 15,000 feet of water.
