about elcid89

With all of the complaining that goes on here (some of you honestly seem incapable of doing anything else BUT complaining ...), GoLo has become depressing.

With the general trend towards the banal and inane, GoLo has become a waste of my time.

What is it about this place, which has so much promise of bringing people together to discuss ideas and learn from one another, that it brings out the worst in people instead?

You'll forgive me if I take my leave of it.

Happy ♥♥ ♥♥ to Elcid and the Dr. Mrs!!

the crux of the problem is the continual whining by christains that they cannot pray...matthew 6 instructs them on prayer but they do not listen. no one can stop anyone from praying but we can stop them from forcing it on everyone with their lavish displays of faith that are ...full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Happy Valentine's Day Elcid!

Hey. Hope you are doing good today! Hope you have a great weekend.

May I say that I always appreciate your thoughtful, insightful, and articulate comments? Some days I'd feel mighty loney here if it were not for you!

"Agreed, Sheba. Most of us knew that xenophobia would be a popular tactic in this election cycle. Emails like this shouldn't surprise us."

Maybe so, but this email was sent LONG before this election. I saw this one several years ago, but after 9-11, of course. This email is more an attack on Muslims than an attack on Obama, at least originally.

"I know. I didn't mean to imply that this was by any means anything new. I was just commenting on how these things seem to have resurfaced with vigor of late. The tactic itself is what annoys me."

Yeah, I tend to agree. I thought about it a little more, and even though it's an old email, it is re-surfacing now at quite the "convenient" time. Nothing like a little fear-mongering to scare people away from voting for someone.

What people NEED to be afraid of are Obama's new taxes and tax increases. If the economy is bad NOW, what effect will THAT have on it?

Hope you had a great weekend!!

"It's honestly difficult to say. Clinton raised taxes dramatically in 1993 and the economy went into overdrive. I don't believe that would happen again, but then again none of us expected it to happen the first time around either."

This was around the time when the internet company boom was happening (remember the "dot bombs"? this was back when they were still "dot coms"...) I think the economy continued to do well despite Clinton's taxes. I don't think Clinton helped or hurt what was happening around that time. He just benefited from it.

Thanks, elcid. I believe we agree. Have a great evening!

Thanks Elcid, I WILL be voting in the primaries. You are right that all our choices stink but the thought of Obama even being seriously considered for the office turns my stomach.

remember my comment about the truth fairy.....today proves that...but i never expected the total embrace of false hoods.

Hello, Elcid. I have missed our debates. Where have ya been?

you are a funny man! :)

elcid, I saw your question to tmed about the VA. I can tell you that my dad served during the Korean Conflict (yes, that long ago) and was stationed in Cuba. He died last September from complications of Alzehimers. He was being treated and got all of his medications and eyeware at the VA. Hope that helps a little.

So, did you take the test? What level are you doomed to?

love the buddy christ.

Ford is the largest car manufacturer in the UK. Would you consider the money they spend on R&D and product development there to be UK money or US money?

It would be the "money" of where their profits got taxed?

oops, that was meant for your blog

I enjoyed that blog, thanks!

Thank GOD for your intelligent, well-thought responses to the issue of Moretti and his vigilante justice...People are so stupid, it kills me. Also, love the pic. Dogma is a great movie. Have a good day, julie

Darn Elcid, you made me have to go to the dictionary to understand your post. And yeah I agree. The rhetoric is already out of control.

I appreciate your comments on my blog earlier today. And, like yourself, I do not understand why some people feel the need to resort to name-calling in order to make their point. People should be able to disagree without becoming disagreeable.

elcid, if I'm not mistaken from an earlier profile of yours, with a link to your professional page, we live almost spitting distance from each other. We'll have to meet sometime in person.

If you know were a sign USED to be for "Kilt Valley Estates", then you'll know...

Must have been a link glitch in the system, I guess. I'm learning to despise Vista more every day. Oh, and you are correct about Apex. :-)

thank you Mr.Elcid, you seem to know a lot about citizenship and other topics as well. I can appreciate that, and will remember that when I have a question I need an answer too.

again I appreciate your help, TGIF and have a good weekend elcid!!!

Thank you for your input on my immigration blog. I realy enjoy hearing other points and veiws backing up the idea, that legalization is the answer. Have a great day!

70 !?!?!?

I never realized you were doddering. I'll have to treat you more gently in the future. :)

"LOL, polls only seem to matter on here when they favor Republicans. So be it, I guess.

It's beginning to look a lot ... like ... Christmas ... lol"

I logged on too late to get in a post but wanted to respond to yours. What I find really amazing is how these conservatives think that they, and only they, have the correct answers to pressing problems and issues. Nobody other than them can possible have an alternative solution because, by default, if you are something other than a Republican, you are automatically a looney bird. They have done such and outstaning job over the last seven years on the national scene and yet still have the temerity to proclaim their righteousness. Merry Christmas, I'm with you on this one.

Thanks for your posts today, I enjoy reading your posts sometimes. ;) Sorry Gafan called you a troll. Happens I guess.

Have a great night, and kick Steve---he's not far behind you in age. LOL :)

"I agree that his agenda in ....the "submit" button."

Well said.

Apologies for the repeat post but wanted to make sure you saw, have personal reasons for the request. Thanks elcid!

elcid, I do have one question: you stated "...to allow any child placement agency licensed by the state or any county social services department to agree to act...". Can these agencies still refuse to act as an intermediary due to privacy reasons or does this change compel the agencies to comply to requests?

I do not want to disclose more on a public forum but you did answer the question to a certain extent when you mentioned Children's Home Society. I have an interest in this change and would like to discuss it more with you if that is possible. I just do not feel comfortable here on GOLO.

Sorry Elcid - I had signed off by the time you responded to my blog last night (learners permit). MD 20/20 LOL!! But I know what you mean - She did do very good - I'm just not doing very good yet. :) But will get there. Thanks for your words of encourgement the other night.

Hi Elcid: I posted your blog up on the GOLO homepage. Good information! -Angela

I agree with you about "unsophisticated" voters from today's Democratic discussion. One of the persons with whom you were debating was born in 1983, and clearly is basing everything upon emotion. That's why the Democratic process is broken. At poll time, no one cares about the issues, only about the name, or about whether this one covers his heart or not...

Understood, My Friend, but it's not your place to decide what determines a person's reason(s) for voting/believing certain beliefs. We all have our own personal criteria. Some folks like George W. Bush because he talks tough...so be it. I like Bill and Hillary Clinton because I admire their intelligence and pragmaticism. Some may hate him because of his looks or the fact that he's a Democrat. Some love W. because he waves the flag...it doesn't matter...you believe what you believe for whatever reason suits your place/experiences in life. You believe what you believe due to intense studying, thorough examination of theory, etc, and that's great....to each his/her own...:) ...but as I told Casey, you seem like good people...quite an intelligent gent, I might add....oh, and stay Democrat!:)

..and no offense taken...I apologize for being so judgemental and wrongly labelling you an elitist......

In an effort to try and 'interact' more with my 'friends', I am writing this note to all of my 'friends' to say 'hi'. So.... 'hi', 'have a nice day' and 'hope everything is going well!'.

Does that work?

I do admit that some folks get automatically resentful when they sense articulate prose or any hint of solid education. I myself admire higher education; heck, I wish I had more of it!! Some seem to think that if you don't constantly engage in "bubba speak" or see things in "black and white" terms that you're snooty or an elitist. Too bad the world's not that simple. Not that there's anything wrong with "bubba speak", but I myself do get tired of having to dumb myself down frequently. Oh, well, now I sound like a snob/elitist...what can you do?!!:)

Elcid:

You have fallen into the same trap that eco-wackos have been spewing for decades now -- fossil fuels are running out.

That is absolutely not true.

Yes, the supply of known reserves is finite, but the key there is known AND presently exploited. In the oil industry, a known reserve is one which has been found, in use, and fairly accurately measured. So that when we say there are 20 years of known reserves left, that does not mean that we are going to run out of oil in 20 years. It simply means that only our known reserves will last that long. There are trillions upon trillions of barrels of oil that we "know" are in the ground, but mostly for financial reasons we have not yet tapped. It is estimated that with existing technology alone, there are over 1,000 years of oil in the ground. And with future technology, who knows how much is really there. Remember, there is loads of oil under the Pacific; we just have no current means of drilling in 15,000 feet of water.

There is a great quote by Gen. George S. Patton that I've always admired. "Give me an Army of Citadel graduates and I'll win a battle. Give me a handful of VMI men and I'll win a war." I love that quote.

Refinery capacity was address by proxy, though the article was explicitly about crude oil and not the production of by-products. Even so, it is not for a lack of foresight that companies have not build refineries; it is directly due to politics and local refusal to allow them to be built.

Remove the various dogs and you will see refineries popping up like dandylions.

Hello Elcid,

I hope you are having a great day today. It is beautiful weather, hope you have been able to enjoy it a bit.

Elcid, I went to post to Feisty and saw your comment. I am very sorry for the loss that everyone there must be feeling, especially those who knew her. I regret never getting the chance to. Please know that lots of people here feel the same.

I am very, very sorry Elcid. It is such a sad, senseless thing to happen. Sometimes there are no answers but please know that you are all being thought of. My heart breaks for her parents, I cannot fathom it. I am sure all the students are in shock and hurting too....I am sorry for all of you. I definitely will keep prayers going, nothing else I know to do.

Hang in there and take care of you. Peace.

Elcid - I wish I could tell you that it is ok and you are safe but I don't know that any of us are safe anymore, anywhere. This country is becoming just plain mean. It scares me for my children and for my future grandchildren. Sometimes I dream of just going to the country but we are not even safe there anymore.

There is still some good in this world, we have to believe that. Hang in there, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I sincerely appreciate your offers to help and your advice. Thank you for being who you are and doing what you do and have done.

I hope you are doing alright my friend. May you have a nice weekend.
