about elcid89

With all of the complaining that goes on here (some of you honestly seem incapable of doing anything else BUT complaining ...), GoLo has become depressing.

With the general trend towards the banal and inane, GoLo has become a waste of my time.

What is it about this place, which has so much promise of bringing people together to discuss ideas and learn from one another, that it brings out the worst in people instead?

You'll forgive me if I take my leave of it.

"Then may I call your attention to Exodus 21:22-23?"

I read this & I don't know what you are getting at in reference to Romans 1:17-32.

riddle me this....why are you making so nice with everyone? i understand the drive for civility....but you are going beyond that with the making nice....laughing from the shadows...i am sincere in my question....i will now look at the bible verses

Am I missing something? What does the death of an unborn child have to do with being gay? I don't see the connection.

My opinion on causing the death of an unborn child is not relavant to what was stated in Excodus. It says what it says no matter how I feel about it, so I would have to go by scripture, although I don't particular agree with it.

Touche' ...well said. Yes if you are going to push for something you must become part of the wave...so now a deeper question? Do you feel like a hypocrite? Which makes you feel more hypocritical....stating that we should all be civil...or being civil with people ...who in reality you would not give the time of day to? Inquiring minds wanna know.

I am sorry. I just cant resist the urge to point people with a sharp stick at times. I will hold off my opinion and see how your noble experiment works.

i have watched people brings isms to the net for a good time now. Sadly it will not change. They draw their sexism, racism agism etc. I have often said it is sad to see a media that should be purely mental and show the best of people...be reduced to a very base forum. I wonder often about the insecurities these people must feel daily, to have the overwelming drive to expose an "avatar" (for lack of a better term), to build a cyber kingdom and rule it. I can not revel in hate nor killing. I try not to be judge mental but I am.

"One can't really pick and choose when infallibility becomes involved."

I agree. You either base your lifes decisions on all of it or none at all, if you truley believe.

There is nothing "christian" about Mardi Gras. Never heard it called that either.

Good morning elcid! I’ve read a lot of your posts and while I don’t necessarily always agree with you, I respect your honesty and your knowledge. I have a question for you, something I don’t understand. The other day I was listening to NPR in the car and heard a short news brief about a lawsuit that the Attorney General has filed on behalf of North Carolina against the Tennessee Valley Authority. The lawsuit is regarding pollution from the TVA’s coal-fired power plants. I found this link: http://www.ncdoj.com/DocumentStreamerClient?directory=PressReleases/&file=clean+air+TVA+suit+final+corrected+version.pdf

That got my interest because I remember also hearing about the Cliffside Station in Rutherford and Cleveland Counties. The NC Dept of Environment and Natural Resources have issued the final air permit. There was a large full page ad in yesterday’s News and Observer from Jim Rogers, Chairman, President and CEO of Duke Energy regarding this. I can’t find the link onlin

(cont'd) online but it’s on page 5A.

My question is, if you know, is what is the difference between the proposed new units at Cliffside and the TVA’s current coal fired plants? I understand that current plants at Clifford Station are around 67 years old. I wondered if the issues in Tennessee are the same thing--aged plants. I couldn’t get my head around the fact that the AG is suing Tennessee but we’re issuing permits for a coal plant here. So at the risk of sounding like an idiot, I couldn’t figure out the difference and thought you could help!

No problem, please take your time, I appreciate you looking at it. This is totally for my own personal understanding and knowledge so no rush.

Although not an appropriate comment on the blog, I was going to say if you are in Raleigh and billing $600 an hour, you are giving out more than just legal advice. Bahahahaha. ;-)

Parker Poe starts their associates at a very high rate, considering they are fresh out of law school. Their salaries are posted on their website.

Well Thanks! How kind of you El, I just shot her an email. Hope all is well at your end, I have not been on your profile...going to view some youtubes (will use the ladies room prior with your comment...lol). Have a good evening!! :)

Hi, I sure enjoy watching you in discussions. You are probably one of the most astute individuals I "know". My girlfriend reads alot of your posts as well. In response to Stewie Griffin, she says....elcid should tell him: My pants may be fancy, but my mind is clear!! I was going to say something to him, you know personal attacks are distasteful to me as well, but you need no help from me to dance circles around his intellect.

The personal tenor of his commentary shines through well enough on its own. It's somewhat obvious that his problem isn't with my ideas, it's with me personally.

Which is fine. I've never been one to seek out approval.

And tell her thank you. I appreciate the compliment. Not bad for a 70 year old, you think?

Yes, his personal tenor does show. I also know you are not one seeking his or anybody's approval on here...LOL...and you are correct, not bad for a 70 yr old. I hope I make it to 70!! Have a good evening!

elcid - you're making me regret getting my MHA instead of going to law school. People can get mad but you definitely know the law.

I almost feel bad my blog got into that type of commentary. For what it's worth, I really did enjoy reading your posts and frankly learned quite a bit in the process. Enough to push me to do some research. Thanks!

I'm about 70 messages behind, so forgive me if this has been settled already. I just don't feel like reading 70 message to find out! :)

Regarding our right to bear arms and whether or not we have a right to ammunition, I argue they are one and the same. A gun without ammunition is not really a gun. It's a useless hunk of metal, no longer an "arm". If someone forcibly removed ammunition from my possession, they have in effect DISARMED me. Therefore, ammunition is included in the meaning of "arms".

I believe this point could be argued and easily won before the Supreme Court if it ever needed to be.

If we had the right to bear dynamite, could someone really argue we don't have a right to bear FUSES? If we had the right to bear cars, could someone really argue that we don't have a right to bear tires, or gasoline? There is such a thing as SPIRIT of the law. A right to bear cars comes with the inherent assumption that we also have the right to own gasoline, because the SPIRIT of such a law about car ownership assumes the reason for the car is travel. To ban gasoline would effectively ban our ability to use the car for what it was designed for. Similarly, to ban ammunition would effectively ban guns, because without ammunition, what good is a gun? It is no longer a firearm. It's a solid, metal relic.

I'm talking about a governmental ban on ammunition. If the private sector decides to stop producing ammunition, that's another issue. No way to really prevent that. But I believe it could easily be argued that the government could not ban ammunition production any more than they could ban firearms.

You're probably right about the second amendment and the militia thing being the spirit of that amendment. As long as people aren't able to ban guns, I don't mind the SCOTUS not ruling on it. If guns are banned, then a ruling will be needed. I'd rather us err on the side of KEEPING a right than giving it up.

"There's more than one way to skin a cat. :-)"

If someone implements a huge tax that would make it prohibitive to purchase ammunition just because of the expense, someone somewhere would likely USE some of that expensive ammunition on that individual or group. And I would sit back and smile!

"Seeing the impending problems for gun owners?"

I see what you mean now.

Did you see my question? I thought the rebate was for everyone that paid taxes in. Am I wrong? Does it only apply to some people. I have plans for mine so don't bust my bubble.

Thanks for your comments. I relayed them to my wife. I think it is important to find some way to volunteer and give back. I had thought of mentoring but with my job my patience is already used up with people. At least with the animals you know if they do something wrong they didn't know and didn't mean it. a lot of times they give as much to us as we do to them. Thanks again and have a great day.

Good Morning! I hope you had a great weekend.

Eclid, you have been cracking me up for a good hour or so now on that Marine blog. It's been very fun to read! Thanks!

Eclid--read my statement. I was lamblasted last week and yesterday. I asked her on her blog yesterday if she knows how to post anything other than Marines are treated like dirt/Democrats are bad/Republicans are wonderful--or something to that extent. I sure took some heat for it. I got many chuckles out of the rise you got out of her! It doesn't take much; just a different point of view.

Re: temedlin's blog (Code Pink)~elid I swear we're kindred spirits sometimes. I told you once before I don't always agree with you but there are moments like this...you say what I want to say but much more eloquently than I ever could.

I am all for free speech and that is part of the discussion I had over the blog over the weekend. And there are gray areas I know, but to me you can debate issues and disagree in a mature manner that does not resort to name calling and belittling which I see a lot of in here. That is precisely the reason I don't post that often and tend to stay away from controversial subjects.

What the...???

elcid, I really do agree with you and I wish I could more but I just don't think I have the intestinal fortitude most of the time. Afraid that I would let my emotions get away with me. But with you're last response, you've motivated me more, so I'll try to work on it!

Elcid-good night.

Thank you for reading and hearing what I was saying. I know that we both have very strong personalities and TMedlin does also so it is that kind of oil / vinegar reaction occuring. I respect you very much since we have gotten to know each other through email, and I do value your voice and opinion. I would not like others to see you as something you are not because emotion is driving the charge. Gee whiz, look at what a break from here can do... it is amazing! LOL- I am joking but I am serious too. I respect you very much and appreciate you taking the time to just step back from it all.

I am working on a platform that just might interest you, where your voice could be heard and where your knowledge of the constitution and law would be very welcome and appreciated...let me know if you would like to learn more.

I am off to study the back of my eyelids now, have a good night my friend. Be at peace and don't fret about the small things, tomorrow is a new day. Dawn

LOL- I think maybe I came pretty close to eliciting that same response from you (if not a stronger one)....of course now that you know me, you realize how charming I am :-)

Seriously, sometimes a break can do amazing things. Have a good night and thank you.

"I have never encountered another individual in my life who generates the sort of pure and unadulterated bad reaction that she does in me, and for the life of me I still can't understand exactly why she does so."

Apparently, you know my husband's ex-wife! :) Seriously, though, she is one irritating BIOTCH! I don't feel the need to force my views on others. It seems to me that those who do are very insecure and looking for approval. You might have better words for what I just said--but--you are a lawyer! ;) She makes my skin crawl...irritating as cr*p! I've tried to be nice; that got me nowhere.

Good work. I don't know where you find these things, but this report, being from the Rand Corp., will be taken seriously by even people leaning to the far right! Why did this not come out so much sooner. We need to just get out of Iraq and let them "figure it out" and so be it if they do or not. Have a great night, and again, good work.

I do not ever post here but I do read the comments and blogs a lot. I have read this blog and what I see is that you have a different opinion and the other person didn't like it. I see this alot by that person on this site. I see that this person attacks everyone that disagrees with them. I'm sure that I will be called a "troll" but I don't post because of this very thing. I admire you for standing up to this person. If this person would read their own comments I am sure that they will see that while they are saying they have the right to their opinion and if you don't like it don't read it they should maybe do the same thing. Funny that every time there is discontent this person is usually involved. Just wanted to tell you thank you for trying to keep this site as a place to discuss and debate and enjoy reading not just a place for some people to spout their own personal views and agendas with no regard to others. Thank you.

I checked the profile you mentioned. I do see that the screen name is similar to yours but we have many similar screen names and that does not violate any guidelines. Feel free to alert me if something else comes up. -Angela

Good morning. I'm assuming you know your reply to Tmedlin was actually posted on my profile. You addressed a comment she left for me there.

I don't mind that you answered her on my profile, but I have one small concern -- if a third party happens to read your comments w/o browsing two comments down, they might assume you're quoting and answering me. I'd rather not have that happen -- I don't want people to think I "demean homosexuals" (which isn't true of me).

For that reason only, I'm going to delete your comment. I'm loathe to use that function, but in a case where something can be misconstrued, I'll do it reluctantly. I just didn't want you to notice the deletion and think I did it for another reason. You're still welcome to comment on my profile.

Thanks!

P.S. Here's the comment I'm deleting:

'"Sorry you got caught in the crossfire! I'm not letting him get away with his garbage any more - did THAT for too many months!"

Amazing. You demean homosexuals and I'm the one promulgating garbage. I've complained to Angela about your insulting and derogatory graphics, and will continue to do so in the future.

What you can't tolerate, as you've evidenced quite often in the past, is being disagreed with and nothing more. If that's what you propose to eliminate, good luck with that.'

I am trying to get a site live by tomorrow afternoon, then I can breathe a bit. I will send you an email detailing the platform I am talking about, I think you will like it and I think it has the potential to be an outstanding tool for learning, building bridges and (hopefully) bringing about change.

Got a question for you, if you're willing to contact me by e-mail (and I'll understand perfectly if you prefer to remain more anonymous and unreachable). Thanks.

danbain07@gmail.com

"I think it's possible to learn and have a little fun as well. Too much of either is counterproductive.

When we laugh together, we stop being on different sides of a divide and we start being neighbors. That changes how we look at the divide."

Truer words were never spoken.

Thanks for your comment, ElCid, I'll access it at home, as they frown on us watching videos at work.

Being raised in the South and not Catholic, I had never heard this song until it was sung at the elegy for JFK in 1963. I cried then and I cry now when I hear it.

I enjoy your posts, very logical and polite, and I love your profile picture! You teach law, is that correct?

BTW, I'm Susan
