about elcid89

With all of the complaining that goes on here (some of you honestly seem incapable of doing anything else BUT complaining ...), GoLo has become depressing.

With the general trend towards the banal and inane, GoLo has become a waste of my time.

What is it about this place, which has so much promise of bringing people together to discuss ideas and learn from one another, that it brings out the worst in people instead?

You'll forgive me if I take my leave of it.

"How many guesses do I have left on the law school question?"

As many as you feel like expending.

gopanthers - that wasn't the intent at all. The post was intended to convey to whoever the guy was that bad things happen for a variety of reasons. Some people were stupid, others were unfortunate and others still took chances they shouldn't have taken. The point was that from a credit score standpoint, there's no differentiation and all will suffer equally. That's unfortunate.

"Elcid, I need you to reply to my question that I leave on your page on my page, sir,. LOL..it is too much work looking at the pages you leave questions on. I dont have a good memory. Now back to my question, I will keep an eye on it and hope to see a change. thank you . Have a great day!

Ah, ok. Consider me educated. I'll reply there from now on.

Wow. I'm sure you have some great blogs in you just waiting to be written. Welcome Elcid. It's a pleasure to have you. I do look forward to your contributions.

I think we had a rousing discussion on homeschool, private, public, etc. You were talking about homeschoolers getting into college etc. What I like about you is that we can have that spirited conversation without calling names and also agree on other things!! I wish everyone on here would try that!

"I think we had a rousing discussion on homeschool, private, public, etc. You were talking about homeschoolers getting into college etc. What I like about you is that we can have that spirited conversation without calling names and also agree on other things!! I learned a bit from that conversation as well. I'm also learning the difference between discussing a topic and characterizing the language in such a way as to find a way to indicate that I don't necessarily agree with what I'm discussing.

Being an attorney, everything tends to be literal with me, and the associated connotations sometimes are realized after the fact . What I expect to be a simple statement quite often has had implied offense that was quite unintended.

So this is educational for me as well.

...on the other hand, name-calling is always useful if you've run out of anything meaningful to contribute.

Glad you're finally a member; but do you charge for your advice?

Hi there, Welcome to our little corner of the world!

Well, I say speak your mind! Not everyone will see things exactly the way you do. But that is ok too! I usually go out of my way not to offend anyone, but some people I just over look! Some people wouldn't be happy if you hung them with a brand new rope! The government should consider changing our motto from 'land of the free' to 'land of the offended'!

I also love The Lion in Winter, either on stage or on film. I'm looking foward to seeing your blog posts ... should interest the GOLO crowd nearly as much as your eager young law students.

Ok cid - I now understand your posting. Thanks. Have a great day and I look forward to readying more of you post (:

Cid look how popular you are. You just started up golo what? 1/2 hour ago and you already have 21 post. Now 22. See your a popular guy.

Welcome!

Welcome to GOLO...glad to see you finally got a profile... Dang you have a boat load of comments and you just signed on today!!!... You get the Mr. Popularity award!!!!!!!

Yiiiii- Elcid--No I thought I had hid from you so you couldn't find me. I just blogged the part of the 14th amendment representing rights of non citizens., esp anchor babies. It seems to me no one has really challenged that law...between legal and illegal...Welcome to GOLO and we want some good blogs. I know you can teach us a lot on our subjects with golo.

Let the debates begin. hehehe

I'm surprised you haven't weighed in on the Patriot Act article!

Glad to see you had the time to start a golo page.

And I, a rubber insert for a linesman's glove. :)

Being a Tar heel fan explains everything lol.. Just kidding.

Love the Buddy Jesus ... though I'm waiting for lightening to strike. lol

Welcome...

Finally decided to join the bandwagon, huh? :^)

Ahh, welcome to golo elcid89. I'm sure we'll be chatting along the way, looking forward to it.

Elcid, I'm so glad you made a profile. I enjoy reading your posts. We may not always agree, but I have to admit there have been many times that you made me think about something differently.

Good morning, Elcid, glad to see that you've made a profile!

Hey Elcid.. your post are always constructive. Keep it up.

Long story short? It will end up costing more in real dollars to effectively keep them out than it will to support them once they are here.

Once again, Elcid, you have enlightened me. I never understood why Bush would not do anything about the people coming into our country illegally. I still don't like it though.

I remember your exact saying about the government would have to be anti-american. A lot you predicted has been happpening..

I supposed to guess if you went to berkley, georgetown or harvard for law school. I guessed georgetown first because you made several references to arguing with Jesuits. You said I was wrong. I am guessing Harvard now for the same reason - the Jesuit references in your posts.

Hi elcid89,

Welcome. I enjoy reading your comments!

Have a good week.

Beth

"if im a nude photographer and tell a subject they have a nice this or that can i be sured?"

"If the comment is directed in such a way that the subject is made to feel that they can't register objection to it without risking reprisal, then yes, you can be sued for it." -elcid

I can't resist asking why anyone would get their picture taken by a "nude photographer". Is this a misplaced modifier, or is something dangling? I'll have to watch where I get my portraits taken...

Excellent choice of words on marriage and civil union yesterday. It would seem that we are 100% in agreement on that issue.

BTW, you might have great deal of fun on www.carypolitics.org. There is a section for local issues in Cary which you might not be as interested in, but there's also a whole national section for all the other issues. There are a few people who are fairly liberal on there, but the majority of posters are right wing conservatives. Think of it as a way to bring enlightenment to those who are most in need of it. :-)

Hi elcid89 - I don't think we have ever talked but I read your post all the time and thought it was time to tell you that I enjoy reading them (all of them). Keep up the good thoughts and idea's.

Great job with your posts. It's nice to know that there are some educated and intelligent people posting here! Your comments always seem well written and thought out, creating an environment for explorative thinking for the rest of us! Many thanks. :)

elcid - You were rather noncombative in your posts tonight. I find this mellowness disturbing.

Don't take this the wrong way, but have you been smoking weed or something? Because that can get you in trouble, even at UNC.

Okay, maybe not at UNC. But everywhere else it can.

Could I please get your expert legal opinion on something? I've argued that it is an anomaly and somewhat paradoxical for 'strict constructionists' to advocate that the Constitution be interpreted as such. If the Constitution were meant to be read as "written in stone," so to speak, then amendments would never be necessary using that logic. It seems to be written with the inherent assumption - or perhaps insistence - that it is a 'living document,' needing adaptation according to the appropriate time period.

Sorry for the book, but I would appreciate your thoughts on the subject, please. :)

Gotchya...thanks.

Check these guys out. They're the type I loooove to tweak.

Mostly it has to do with the 1000 character limit imposed on us. There are times when I want to get a point across so I axiomatically presume something or lead into what appears to be a circular argument simply because I have to leave so much out. Other times, expecially when dealing with morons, I will put up a red herring, get their attention away from the topic at hand for the moment, then manipulate their position while they aren't looking so they end up argueing with themselves -- all while watching that little fishy.

It doesn't belittle people; it belittles leftists. There is no need to use such tactics against conservatives. Most of them would never fall for it and trip themselves up.

The whole point of debating is to win. And there are two components to winning any debate. One, present overwhelming evidence that your position is correct and two, make the opposition look like fools. Fortunately, debating with a leftist is easy and takes little effort. Well, perhaps to keep from laughing...

The whole country is completely polarized now. There is little grey anymore, it is all black and white. On one side you have people who adhere to conservative thought and absolute values. On the other side you have people who adhere to liberal thought and relative values. The things the two sides believe in are diametrically opposed and completely unreconcilable. On many issues, there is no middle ground.

And I have no illusions of ever being able to "convert" a leftists. The best I can hope for is one of those middle 40 percent of the electorate who is sitting on the fence, or perhaps has never considered any position, to hear both sides and realize that conservativism is in everyone's best interests and that leftists are insane.

The latter is easy. All leftists have to do is speak and it becomes abundently clear. And given their protests, often they don't even have to speak to clearly demonstrate their inability to think properly.

most people simply want to lead their lives with as little interfence as possible..i think we all...left, middle, right want secure homes etc...the rhetoric and a few emotional issues tend to polarize people. I never close the door or my mind to someone due to their politic leanings...or religion etc. I am sorry this country has become so polarized...I see it a great deal...but it is henny pennys keeping the fear level high. I do however think we have things to face in the future that will be very fearful.

eclid- can you point me toward any websites or references that detail the available types of law degrees? I have a son in high school and we are discussing his passions. The kid loves to debate / discuss and can present a very compelling argument, and when I mentioned he might want to look into law he said he thought he would enjoy it but did not want to have to defend anyone who was guilty (which I take to mean as doing duty a public defendant/da office). I know nothing about law except that there are many types of law - can you point us toward any kind of educational resources that we can use to learn more? Thank you, Dawn

ElCid, Thank you, that information was very helpful- now he can start researching law and areas he may be interested in. He is a very intelligent young man and has always asked questions so when he went through the years of trying to argue with me about any and everything under the sun I finally got smart enough to stop arguing with him and began asking him to research things and write me reports. It took him a couple of years and a lot of reports before he got a bit wiser in his approach. I am biased but he is a wonderful, highly ethical young man and with his brain and determination I know that he must find a field that is challenging yet offers him a strong sense of reward. He has talked about medicine or law for years and I am urging him to really begin researching and exploring his options to narrow what is most suited to his gifts and passions. Life is too precious to not live it fully and productively when we can. Thanks again, Dawn

I enjoy reading your posts immensely. It is nice to see someone that is not so bowed over by the Christian Majority here on GOLO. :0P

Please be advised that WRAL's coverage of the beach fire tragedy contains an error. They are reporting that the home was owned by the parents of one of the girls in attendance, one Katherine Auman, 18.

Her father is Chip Auman, i.e. Fred W. Auman III, an attorney in Hartsville, SC.

According to Brunswick County Tax Records, as of this morning, the owner of record for this home is Fred W. Auman, Jr., of Darlington, SC.

These are clearly not the same person. They are father and son. The girl and her friends were staying at the home of the girl's grandfather, not that of her parents.

You stated - So, in other words, if you get what you are praying for, God decided to answer you and if you don't, then he just decided not to answer you or you aren't praying hard enough - I had to leave for a 1 and 1/2 years because he had Cancer and needed me to take care of him. I prayed and cried almost every single day the last 6 months my Dad was in such pain and misery and still he died a horrible death recently. 'm now back in N.C.. I'm not questiontion your statement but do doubt my faith now. Many days I just don't understand and wonder if God is cruel. My Father didn't deserve to die the way that he did. He was a good man with a HUGE Heart. Thank you for giving me a moment to vent.

But hey, again, whatever gets you through the day.
