With all of the complaining that goes on here (some of you honestly seem incapable of doing anything else BUT complaining ...), GoLo has become depressing.
With the general trend towards the banal and inane, GoLo has become a waste of my time.
What is it about this place, which has so much promise of bringing people together to discuss ideas and learn from one another, that it brings out the worst in people instead?
You'll forgive me if I take my leave of it.

A History of Midwifery in North Carolina Prepared by Linda T. May, CNM The first statutory reference to midwives in North Carolina was in 1917. The law said, "All persons, other than regularly registered physicians, practicing midwifery in this state shall register, without fee, their names and addresses with the secretary of the North Carolina State Board of Health, as required by the provisions of article 14, entitled Inflammation of Eyes of Newborn, of the chapter Public Health." This same law made failure to register a misdemeanor subject to a fine of from ten to fifty dollars, and made it "unlawful for any person who habitually gets drunk, or who is addicted to the excessive use of cocaine or morphine or other opium derivative, to practice midwifery for a fee."

The law continued to say, "It shall be unlawful for any midwife or other person who practices midwifery for fees to touch or otherwise handle the private parts of the person of any patient whom such person is in attendance unless the person in attendance shall first and immediately previous thereto thoroughly wash and disinfect his or her hands." The law referred to as Eyes of Newborn was also enacted in 1917 and was entitled An act to prevent blindness in infancy, designating certain powers and duties and otherwise providing for the enforcement of this act. The midwife could no longer attend the infant except "she may act under a physician's instructions."

The level of dialog on here somedays is not worth even messing with, and I am learning not to waste my time on some of the foolish blogs. Hmmmm....I think I am growing a bit:-)
I suspect that you are a great teacher, and that students may start out hating your guts BUT by the time all is said and done - you are one who stays in their minds and memories as one of the teachers they learned the most from.

I was mortified to learn that I had a couple of ancestors in the 20th IL mounted infantry, which accompanied Sherman during the Carolinas campaign. If your family is missing any silverware, pocket watches, or other valuables let me know. We may have them lying about.

elcid--I know that statement was not directed at me. I might play dumb on Golo a lot...but I'm actually smart and college educated. :) Don't let the secret out! I always wanted to be a lawyer, pediatrician or child psychologist, but my dad said he would dis-own me if I became a lawyer and I didn't have the funds for child psychology or medical school. So I settled on Pre-School. Can you find another college educated job that pays less? I didn't think so.

I'd have to agree. I've been off for the most part and when I peek in from time to time I find it disheartening that someone would post comments like the one I had in my blog. I have to apologize for the blog, but I just get sick of some people running their mouth and not saying anything. Sorry, it was a pitiful blog and wasted energy! Have a beautiful Friday Elcid!!

Thank you for blogging, so eloquently, about atheists (at 4 in the morning no less. Are you in Belgium already?!). I appreciate your words as one of the individuals who has been attacked on GoLo for their beliefs (or lack thereof). So many horrible things have been orchestrated in the name of religion, and while I confess that a lot have good things have also been achieved, I chose not to believe. It is my choice, and I stand behind it as fervently as a Christian stands behind theirs. Rhank You for the words and I hope they are understood.
