about oldrebel

Going down that long lonesome highway
Bound for the mountains and the plains
Sure ain't nothing here gonna tie me
And I got some friends I'd like to see
One of these days I'm gonna settle down
But till I do I won't be hanging round
Going down that long lonesome highway
Gonna live life my way

One of these days I'm gonna settle down
But till I do I won't be hanging round
Going down that long lonesome highway
Gonna live life my way
Yes I'm going down that long lonesome highway
Gonna live life my way

Trust me Reb, I know VERY well how that goes. Been there and done that ...way too many times.

"Feisty...Go back and read how the whole ball of wax began. Slayer has ahd a beef every since this mornings traffic blog went down, IDC just throws stuff out and Sick Rick...is a simple minded little lapdog that jumps in pants on whoever will take time to notice him."

I'm not sure how a blog from this morning got brought into the last one I posted. You seem to be inable of letting go of one comment that was made as a joke. So you don't/didn't find it humorous. Ok, I get but let it go will ya?

YW, anytime. ;)

"Wags ...whee is the info on how to have it transferred to direct depostit instead of a card? I'll be using one of these in the coming five weeks so it would be good to know. If not, how in the world does one take the money from the card to pay bills by mail?" OldRebel

you can find it online or when you are actually laid off, the employment office will send you the form and tell you how much you are eligable for.

You can find out how much you would make now, by going online.

ncesc.com

You really think the farmer joke in not funny? If so, I'll take it down. I just thought it was kind of rustic humor. But I'm gritty myself so who knows.

Hey, sorry. I just read that you commented to me. ha! It was borderline funny/disrespectful to me. Of course, yesterday I was in a mood, so who knows. ha! Anyway, I wasn't all fired up about it or anything. :-)

Hey old reb....

about the little girl...I feel the same way about her. I grew up around water, lived for several years on the Saluda River....I fear all the same things you do...rivers hide many things in their murky waters...

I, too, hope she is found. I am very disappointed in the actions/inaction of the parents of this child. I hate that both the girls were not better supervised, and I detest the lack of input/concern/visibility/haste, that I *think* should be ever present from the parents.

I cannot imagine....so I suppose I shouldn't speak of that, but dang.

i'm waiting for you to come in for a cuppa joe.

Yeah...Saluda River is great....we could put the canoe in the water there in front of the house, paddle out to the island, cookout, kill a few snakes, and go home! We killed more darn snakes down there....threw them in the woods. I would have nightmares about all them dead snakes hanging from the trees!

Lake Murray is the bomb, too...It stretches into Columbia, and back towards where we lived. Ever heard Of Dreher Island State Park? We always called it "Billy Dreher"...I'm guessing that must have been that man's name....haven't thought about that till now :) We've boated from Prosperity all the way to the dam before (all day leisure trip). Did my "first" dive there when I was 12. One of my dad's bud's took me.

Them there's my old stomping grounds!

oh...the water temps and all....Lake Murray had some of the COLDEST spots in it in the dead of summer. Folks always told us that's where the old wells were....I have no idea. We swam/rode/waterboarded all over that thing, though.

did you like the mist > Did the ending make you mad ? it did me

thanks...I hope you do, too!

Nice chatting with ya...I haven't thought about some of that stuff in ages!

thanks...I luv my turkies!

lol about the blog...then I'd be a hypocrit! I support all my buddies that are quitting...but me....I don't really WANT to. NEED to, don't want to.

HEy Donald, Just wanted to let you know in this issue of Fifteen 501 magazine, there is a great story on Bynum: The music, the store...all that good stuff. The mag's free...Hope you enjoy it! happy weekend!

Turtle...Not familiar with Fifteen 501 magazine. TY for the headsup. LOL...now I want some good ole Alan & Son's Bar-be-Que.

http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/4884316/

Hi Donald, I just wanted to make sure that you saw this. I hope to see you tomorrow. :)

Feel free to disagree with me, tell me I’m wrong about something, etc. It doesn’t bother me. The problems I have is when people call me names, say I’m lying, purposely try to hurt, etc. Civil, logical debate and discussion is fine, even if we disagree.

No, I’m not trying to “stoke the fire”. I’ve heard various reasons, but I’m interested in the logic they use, and if they use it uniformly. For example, a fellow once told me that Jesus was real because of all the writings on Him. When I asked if the abominable snowman was real because of all the books on him, he changed the subject. He didn’t want to use the same logical measuring stick.

Continued ...

So, given people are so quick to let others know that God is in the house when “miracles” happen (i.e. the Hudson river plane landing), why aren’t they commenting on God when the plane crashes into a house? How people think and rationalize interests me. Though, I do admit that when I ask those sort of questions, it seems to bring out the nastiness in some “Christians”. I don’t know if they see any doubt or question as some sort of attack, or that they don’t have a good answer and it frustrates them.

You’re right in that I will get the same answer from some people. But just as the atheists seems to have increased a bit on GOLO, maybe some new Christians (or even more exciting, some Muslims or Hindus) will come on board that are willing to debate and discuss without all the “drama”. Religion, from both sides of argument, is a fascinating subject.

You should be able to see the mag anywhere there are newspaper stands, pamphlets nearby. I know that at Millennium Sports Club near the Lowe's Food Store has them inside. Maybe the HT at Chatham Crossing?

Really great read, it's produced seasonally.(If you can't find it, I have extra copies and could mail you one).

I apologize for responding to saltyrover's comment on the blog about public vs private education. I thought his response to your comment was an unnecessary attack against you, and I called him on it.

In retrospect, that was not my place to do so. It was yours, if you chose to. I was disappointed that a possible interesting area for discussion was being derailed by incivility, and I reacted too quickly. I'm sorry, and I won't do that again.

"but I felt to even acknowledge your comment would open the floor for more negative comments toward you"

Which I appreciated. I, too, elected to just let it pass. There's too much acrimony on GOLO as it is to go looking for it.

Stopping by to say good morning to you.Beautiful cat you have in your arms.

Okay, I'll bite. Tell me the joke about the cop and the sandwich!

Good morning, we were just saying that we need to take a trip, even sprayed all of the ants out of the canoe. On your recommendation we had planned to do Balcony Falls last July but a couple days before the trip my other half was injured. My paddle partner is still recovering so steep banks are out. Can you recommend a good put in and take out?

As I reall Balcony Falls is pretty easy to get into and out of. The putin was kind of a tote but it's all down hill and the takeout...seems like it's on the left where you go up a creek under the parallel railroad tracks (that must be one of the most active lines in the the world) and then there's the takeout parking area. Make sure you take a camera as there's some good views (don't forget to turn around and look back behind ya as you go down the river) along the way and when you stop and pull out on the big rocks/island to the right of the Fall's themselves to do some out of boat scouting, you'll want to take some pix thee too. Great river. I did it with a broken finger on my right hand where I got so excited at the putin I slammed the truck door on it when I first got there. LOL A lot of ice and a little luck made it still a great paddle trip.

"Brat started it."

Accckk! OR, you did not really say that! LOLOL

Well, if someonebody's going down, I always try to shift the blame. Just ask my mama, my brothers, sisters, co-workers, friends...heck you can even ask my X. Wow...that's so poetic. LOL Heck yeah...Brat started it all. ;)

oh-ho /* evil smile */ -- you are SOOO in for it now, bro..

Youch, throbbing digit’s stink! We will probably pass on Balcony Falls for now but it is on the list. I think it would be a little too rough for the first time out. I want to do the New River too. Also on the list is the Roanoke, Weldon to Plymouth; that would be a cool trip. We did the Dan a few years ago in kayak’s but the river was so low one of us had to gorilla walk a good piece of it. Not sure where we’re going yet but I have a couple weeks to figure it out. Until then we’ll just paddle in the backyard, catch a few fish, and enjoy the day! I’m sure you’ll be puttin’ her in the wind today, happy trails!

TY Donald. :-) I am trying, lol. Hope your weekend is going well.

"Oop's...LOL runon comment was for Brat's blog. LOL Sorry"

No problem...I had noticed the very same thing and had similar thoughts...LOL indeed - sounds like she needs a man and not an 'adult male'.

"Yah, Came right up HWY 42 thru there until I hooked left at the Goldston-Glendon Rd. over to HWY 22"

We live a little further out than Goldston. I'm about a mile back east of where 22 and 42 come back together heading for Asheboro. I am the last mailbox delivery for the mailman out of Bear Creek, just before you get to Fall Creek Road - I love it out here - a little too close to the road but not too much traffic most of the time - lots of cows so that makes up for it.

Ride safe.....

Thanks for making me smile. I have heard several say that everytime they see a Grumpy they think of me. I hope it is always good thoughts. ;) Have a great night.

Happy Sunday you! Thanks for the note, appreciate it and hope all is well at your end! Enjoy the rest of the day, it's supposed to get down to 48 Tuesday. Sigh

thanks hun, you too !!!! to bad the weather is going south again, lol

I understand Faith, I really do. I think a lot of people get so caught up with arguing with an atheist (i.e. me), that they think I’m questioning their faith, or I don’t understand why they have it. That’s not the case.

While Jesus does talk a good game of faith, there is a dichotomy to that given He also stressed the physical side of it too (examples include the reason why the blind dude healed with mud was blind in the first place). Lots of other examples in the bible too.

So I’m not questioning people’s faith. I want to explore their logic (WHEN they use it), their reasoning, their philosophy, etc. Most, if not all, just aren’t use to someone questioning such matters, saying gods aren’t there, etc. I think that’s where a lot of the animosity comes from.

By the way, I’ve said this before, but don’t know if you’ve seen it, but I wasn’t always an atheist. I was raised in a church LITERALLY founded, built, and pastored by my family. I know the tenets of Christianity quite well. Even during my later college years, when I started to have doubts (nothing to do with college by the way) I still carried and read a bible every day. Up until then I had never even questioned my beliefs. I was just like any other person in church, acting on impulse, without really thinking about it. When I really started to explore my own philosophy, my beliefs, other religions/gods, and the world around me, I realized that I just couldn’t claim to be a true believer any more. I do nothing without careful thought, so finally admitting atheism was not a whimsical response to the secular world.

"I try to avoid things that have any indication they might degenerate down to the fussin' and fightin' stage. Life is just too short."

I'm right there with ya on that one. Being in that kind of situation makes me soooooo uncomfortable LOL.

I can fill a room with my voice if I choose to - but I'd much rather speak softly. Some people might miss what I'm saying that way, but the people that do hear are the ones that are interested enough to pay attention. ;-)

Hope your Monday is a good one. Take Care

You're welcome. I always like to read your blogs. I don't care what anyone says, there's something about you... you are the epitome of taking life as it comes and I envy the heck out of you for that.

Hey Buddy, I know exactly what you are saying about that funeral. What a unbelievable deal this was. I think about all those time I was visiting Grandma in there over the years...it is SUCH a nice home. I see how it is supposed to snow down there in the mountains...I am sure it is right now!! We are getting fantastic weather here...single digits at night and around 30 or low 30s in the daytime. This is also the time that it will warm up significantly really quick...just hasnt hit yet. Starting to see some puddles around though...it won't be long. I hope everything is going well for you. Take care and hope you can get back out on your bike here in a couple of days.

Good evening Old Rebel, I like layslayers better than naysayers..LOL. Thank you for the positive thoughts. There are so many other things that I have going on right now that this GOLO place just doesnt matter. FOlks trash me all the time. It is usually the same people all the time. NEver new haters, just old haters with new ids..LOL..enjoy your evening!

you are right but, i don't ride with him very often and he knows to behave or i WILL get out! lol

Just play this version of Hallelujah three times tonight, take two aspirin and shout out praise in the morning for making it thru another night.----- Donald -- luved your comment . :>

Beautiful pic!! I miss talking to all of you guys in the mornings.,....

Good Morning Old Rebel, Thanks for saying hello. I really enjoy reading your posts. I may never be able to express myself like you do, but at least your words inspire me. Yes, I have always thought it would be very cool to be able to speak other languages other than just English. I have tried on a few occasions to learn Spanish. I personally think there are more attractive languages than Spanish, but that was an easy one to start with. Hope you have a great day.

whoa! Easy killer. I'm not a glorified anything. I'm tired of seeing it and so is most of golo. You two can never be on the same blog without something getting started. You know, the more I think about it, I'm just a lil pizzed about you comment. I've done NOTHING but be nice to you. I see how it is now.

I'll say this one thing and I will try not to darken your profile or blogs again. You really need to let it go. It's not good for one to be so resentful. It's bad for the heart and I'd say you are already a big risk for a heart attack.

You know, I just typed this really long reply back to you, but obviously it's not meant for me to say what I wanted to say because somehow now it's gone. But I will say this. I've defended you time and time again when you didn't even know it. I have NEVER said you were kissing up to anyone and couldn't give a rats azz if you kiss the Pope's azz. I didn't put you in any certain pecking order when I wrote that comment. I didn't think..."hmmmm, whose name shall I put first to show who's most guilty". But hey, if it makes you feel better, go with that thought.

No worries though, you don't have to worry about me defending you behind the scenes anymore-not that you cared anyway. Have a good day.

Aces AKA Slayer...You are a trip. First off you jump in with your buddy Karl AKA Historian in attacking me for an inferrence you saw that wasn't even in my mind wbhen made, and then you act like I shouldn't say anything back to you? If you can't be honest...If you can't be Truthful...Why do you even pretend to carry on a conversation? You two come out of the wooodwork almost everytime you see me post something. Why? I do go around looking for a comment or blog y'all make to jump in on it. So why the fascination with attacking me? Instead of giving me advice, take some of mine to you. If I pizz you off so bad, why comment to me on a blog or in reference to a comment on someone else's blog? Why not just, as you say "Let It Go" and pretend I don't exist? I have no problem even thinking of you Slayer AKA Ace or Historian AKA Karl until y'all see fit to swim into my consciousness by your postings to me personally. And for your info, I had nothing to do with your previous banning. Nothing.

OR, it wasn't about friendship to start off with. I honestly respected your blogs and ideas. I truly enjoyed reading those and talking with you. So for you to chatise me the way you did pretty much blows my mind.
