NC State Sports Website  I Write For

My Golf Blog

My Personal Motto: "Life's short.  Work hard.  Play harder."

First things first: I hate writing online profiles -- they remind me far too much of those silly high school assignments where you had to write a two-page autobiography.  How can you encapsulate an ongoing life in just a few words?

Where I Am From:  Originally, Cocoa Beach in Florida.  Yes, I have heard the "I Dream of Jeannie" jokes.  No, the town is not like that.  It is a mixed town of folks who work at Kennedy Space Center and is also a beach resort.  Cocoa Beach has some of the best surf on the Atlantic Coast of the US.  Good enough for a regular stop on the pro surfing tour.  Maybe you've seen the RonJon's stickers on people's cars?  That's my home town.

Anyway, I am from there because most of my family worked in the space industry at one time or another.  When you watch documentaries about Apollo, Gemini or Mercury, more than likely you will see one or more of my relatives.  I've seen my Mom, my Dad, my Grandfather and one of my Uncles.  Me, I saw every single Saturn V ever launched...in person.

Why I Am In NC:

When the Apollo program came to an end, my parents found better jobs and that brought us here to Raleigh.  We've been here since the mid-1970s.  I can almost call myself a native.  Almost.

What I Like:

* Travel - been to all fifty states.  Been to dozens of countries.  Some I would go back to in a second (California) and others I would skip.

* People - Everyone is interesting somehow.  Just keep in mind that interesting can have more than one meaning, like the old Chinese curse.

* Art - There is a lot to see and experience in this life.  Creating art is the best way to remember it.  If you have a camera, you are an artist.  Me personally, I write, photograph, design and once in a while play music.  I made my living briefly as a professional musician, but it wasn't the life for me.  Besides, you play music, you don't work music.

* The Sea and The Mountains: there are no finer places on this Earth than the Andes or Sierra Mountains and the Caribbrean Sea, and I have been to lots of places.  The Caribbean and the tall mountains all have bright colors and clean air.

Much as I love NC, sorry, our mountains are hills compared to the Andes and most of our coastline has been ruined by too many baby boomer shacks.  Same goes for my hometown's beaches too.  The beach shouldn't have high rises in the dunes.  That's what I think, anyway.

* Sports: I love golf, even if I am not that good.  Think golf isn't hard?  Then why does Tiger Woods still take lessons?

I also love to watch ACC sports and pro hockey.  I used to like racing before racing decided to sell its soul for the money.  I mountain bike, hike, water-ski and other sorts of stuff.  I used to be a skydiver (116 jumps) and a ski racer, but the bones are getting brittle and the price of an accident is too high nowadays.

And so forth and so on.  Read this far?  Wow! Goodness gracious, sakes alive, you really do need to get a life...(I'm kidding, simmer down)

I am not that interesting.  Move along, nothing more to see here!!!

"We quit shopping at TJ Maxx when they refused to secure their wireless networks and they had a data breach that caused us to both get new debit cards twice in three months."

- Amen! I've never shopped there before, but heard about how insecure their network for transactions really is (from an insider!) -- I've told everybody to never shop there, unless they plan to pay with cold hard cash.

Awesome, I'll have to hear that after work. Thanks & Have a nice day :)

Wow..to have actually seen the Vatican. Pretty cool. I'm not Catholic but I do think seeing some of the things they have gathered together therew would be awesome. TY for sharing.

Charles - do you do all of your traveling for work or pleasure or both?

Charles, I was wondering if you would like to be an editor for the group "Pack of Wolves". You have some great photographs and we'd really enjoy some pics of State events.

AS a contnuation of the thoughts about Christianity vs. Altruism on my 'rights' blog, here's an appropriate quote (you know I like to quote)....

“Jesus would never use government surrogates to force the people to ‘help others’.” – Philip Freneau

A little bio on the "poet of the revolution"...

http://www.americanpoems.com/poets/philipfreneau/

"WB, don't get me wrong, I think it's hilarious. The MRS laughed quite a while too (she's the one with the UNC degree.)"

Never met her, but I like her already ;-)

"And I am also terrified of her" -- you never want her mad in the kitchen. In that place, everything can be used as a deadly weapon!

I love my wife and respect her too much to cheat on her. I made a promise to her, to God and to my community. I intend to keep that promise.

THANK YOU! It's not right to do that to someone you supposedly love and honor. DO you know who has affairs? Weak minded people with no self control.

"And I need to sleep eventually" -- LOL

I dont know any in Raleigh- sorry. The one in Greenville is fairly decent however.

Awesome, I'll set you up then. Thanks =)

You know, I almost dropped the remote when I flipped stations last night and saw the ShamWow guy doing some kind of super-chopper commercial. The next Billy Mays!

First off, thanks for recommending The Wire. I've been watching compulsively. I am loving Omar. :) I start S3 tonight. :)

I was really upset that BSG has officially ended. I kept hoping against hope that they'd do another season. Did you watch the finale yet?

digging the avatar CB. veloceraptor shamwow guy. too funny

Nice - didn't know that! I just figured somewhere in Florida, there'd be some pink flamingos. Stereotypical thinking at its best, right?

Last summer after one of those tropical storm systems crossed Florida from east to west, my sister (who lives on the panhandle near Pensacola) took a stroll on the beach. Lo-and-behold, there was a pink flamingo out there on the beach! She took a picture of it, too, and as best I can remember, it looked like a flamingo. Wonder where he came from? I think there's a zoo nearby, so maybe he was an escapee, or just got lost somewhere during the tropical storm.

Here's a news story about it: http://www.thedestinlog.com/news/holiday_6244___article.html/tropical_home.html

CB, I just noticed your avatar...that Fritz guy is crazy.

CB, not trying to cause any commotion, but politely tell ladyblue that dinos and men didnt co exist. couldnt help myself. She was prolly just teasin.

haha ok buddy, i just found it amusing. i wasnt even thinking religiously just chronologically.

Check it out!! :)

Now I cannot wait!

And on the topic of why I would die if they capped my internet...

I just downloaded the pilot of Caprica. I cannot wait until this evening to watch it!! I had planned on watching the finale of Rock of Love, but the skanks on the bus can wait! :D

I cannot wait until S2 of True Blood. I really like that show (wish it was more then 12 episodes a season though)

The sad thing is that I have not watched Caprica yet. I need to set aside some time to really enjoy it and recently I've been running around in the evenings.

The Plan is what I'm really waiting for though. I would have liked to have seen more of the whole Cylon split and their civil war in the last season. I kind of felt like they dropped the ball a little in the finale with that, but a lot of fans didn't really care for it.

At some point in time, I need to sit down and finish up The Wire. I still have S3-5 to watch but it is a show that I need to focus on and recently I've been doing some crochet projects while I watch. Crochet and the Wire do not work out so well.

I've been gone most of the day...what did I miss?

"Yes, we all know that Democrats are the only ones who ever womanize."

The point was democrats look the other way when "their man" does something wrong. At least when republicans do it, they pay for it by losing their seat in the next election.

Good afternoon, did you mean to send me a friend request? LOL,

"That to me is the whole point of GOLO. Exchanging ideas with each other and learning stuff we didn't know."

Absolutely - It has been a valuable epxerience in some ways - yeah it's teh intarwebs, but there is another human at the other end - yeah we all say stuff on here that hopefully we are raised well enough not to say in polite company - but I am truly astounded at 'adults' running to tell on the 'bully' that hurt their feelings.

And people think I'm too serious....

You should see FARK.com sometime - if one is easily offended by 'personal' comments, the expert 'personal flamers' on that site will burn your eyes out with their "text attacks"...

I don't know - maybe I am too serious - I just don't get people sometimes.

Happy Humperz Day!

yo man... noticed you were a jumper (i.e. non whuffo) I stopped jumping with the last wife at around 1500 eight years ago... never got that D license (C-20245).. I think it was the water jump I never did.. Did you rock the B? Jump at Franklinton or Raeford? I did nearly all mine out of the King Air or TwinBo in Raeford (in addition to all the misc boogies from here to the Rubber Chicken boogie in Sallisaw, OK to Skydive Perris and from Deland to jumping out on lake Michigan during the 4th of July in Chicago in the early 90's). Been flying a 172 out of TTA for the last couple of years as my new aviation itch scratching.. Lot more low key than RW and CRW but it kept the home life placid.

dude, i was all over raeford in 89-91... mostly i was jumping with the 82nd SPC out of blackhawks on st. mere and sicily because of my dad and being a military dependent I ended up just getting grandfathered in and jumped there until the president of the club, went to Iraq and the new cat said, you're not a dependent any more, go to raeford.

Sounds like we were runnign around there at the sameish time. Did you happen to know Jay Stokes? He's one of my dad's best friends and I've known jay and vivian since I was 10-11.

Anyway, thanks for the friend request. Always nice to meet another skydiver (ex or otherwise) ...

Howdy - how's it going? Haven't seen you around for a while! Make it a great week, and stay safe out there.

sorry -- I 'read' all your profile. lol and, find you to be very interesting. Have you been thru the Alps ? Awesome. I was blessed to be an army brat and live all-over . My roommate is a pilot and tells me stories of his flights in a plane that looks similar to the one in your picture. hopefully one day , he wants to teach me to fly.

my Dad was stationed in Germany during my teen years ( started Munich Am HS the yr you were born- lol) Since he had been in Italy after the war , he took us there on vacations ; and, we met the family he had stayed with. It was awesome as a teen to travel thru the different countries. Only been thru the southern portion of France -back into Germany from Italy.

Please Tell Tom Stafford to bite it for me.

-lol... Small World. I know Dr. Stafford. When I was a student (almost 20 years ago) I was in govt and the student union and he was VC of Student Affairs back then too.

Charles,

You were correct sir, my truck was in Garner at the home of a dear friend. And also the fellow who did my grading and concrete work here in Haw River.

I was aiding him with some things and my truck was parked at his house.

If you live in Eagle Ridge, what a wonderful community.

Nice plane too by the way....I retired with my flying career with around 6000 hours.

I hope to add a helicopter rating if I ever chose to fly again....

Hey, J/C, where you trying to do the trade mark symbol on the blog a bit ago? I'll show you if you want me to?

omg, thank you for that remark about Pareidolia! I've always had it. I see faces in EVERYTHING! LOL, I just know they're not real, so I'm not crazy.

I thought it was from being so near-sighted when I was a kid. Details were hard to see (although I didn't know it wasn't normal) and I had to rely on the 'suggestion' of something as a survival tool.

So, thank you! It has a name, so I'm not terribly abbie-normal. Well, I am, but you know what I mean... *smile*

LOLOL, love the starbucks cup!

No, really. I can sit on the john and have about 6 recgnizable figures. Sounds strange, but I love how the shading can be so suggestive. I have a bent little old lady walking away, a smiling pig-face, a Lana Turner-ish women in semi-profile.. I could go on. And these are 6' tiles.. I really have too much time on my hands..

Thanks for the info, and the smiles.

"You're right, Lolly, we shouldn't be studying sperm's motility in order to gain more knowledge about infertility."

It seems cruel to tell infertile couples that the man does not find his mate attractive, and thus his "boys" are not swimming.

I adore science and found the articles interesting. I just did not see the a real connection between excited chickens and human infertility. I did not mean to criticize your blog. Sometimes I just think out loud (post) and it comes out wrong

Man, this is so cool how involved your family has been with the space program. I have always been a huge fan of NASA and space exploration in general!

I thought I was already your friend Mr Charles Boyer... chat is a cellphone jammer?

I agree Charles... so sorry for my typo.

"Seems like we heard a lot about that in the last administration."

I can't remember - was it Code Pink, A.N.S.W.E.R., or Cindy Shehan?

All those "patriots" get me confused....

please direct me to the article you got this from please.

Hey Charles - Did you see where Adobe is buying Omniture for 1.8 billion? WOW! I thought it was a brilliant move on Adobe's part, and am very impressed that they would go after such a robust package both on the analytics and paid side. Hmmmm, makes me wonder if they are gonna give Google a run in some verticals, could get interesting :-)

Ummm- if it wasn't you that I had discussed web analytics with before, sorry and never mind.

Sorry to hear about your childhood home, that is very sad.

Take care, Dawn

BTW , I hope you didn't think that "boot licker" snark was about you in any way.

It most certainly was not.

(actually I think all the bootlickers are on my ignore list LOL)

"Thank heavens no "just get a Mac" people have invaded."

That was Ty and his comment:

"Hahahahahaha.

/schuedenfreud off"

I am ashamed to admit I'm friends with a Mac man....

chaz, if your comment reg. Edwards at 12:31pm, is even halfway correct, it is very powerful, and earns you a lot of points with me. Not that you can cash them for anything, except respect. Have a good day dude.

/* giggle */

/* bump stumble bump */

/* giggle */

/* knock, knock, knock */

Trick or treat!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
