My Golf Blog

My Personal Motto: "Life's short.  Work hard.  Play harder."

First things first: I hate writing online profiles -- they remind me far too much of those silly high school assignments where you had to write a two-page autobiography.  How can you encapsulate an ongoing life in just a few words?

Where I Am From:  Originally, Cocoa Beach in Florida.  Yes, I have heard the "I Dream of Jeannie" jokes.  No, the town is not like that.  It is a mixed town of folks who work at Kennedy Space Center and is also a beach resort.  Cocoa Beach has some of the best surf on the Atlantic Coast of the US.  Good enough for a regular stop on the pro surfing tour.  Maybe you've seen the RonJon's stickers on people's cars?  That's my home town.

Anyway, I am from there because most of my family worked in the space industry at one time or another.  When you watch documentaries about Apollo, Gemini or Mercury, more than likely you will see one or more of my relatives.  I've seen my Mom, my Dad, my Grandfather and one of my Uncles.  Me, I saw every single Saturn V ever launched...in person.

Why I Am In NC:

When the Apollo program came to an end, my parents found better jobs and that brought us here to Raleigh.  We've been here since the mid-1970s.  I can almost call myself a native.  Almost.

What I Like:

* Travel - been to all fifty states.  Been to dozens of countries.  Some I would go back to in a second (California) and others I would skip.

* People - Everyone is interesting somehow.  Just keep in mind that interesting can have more than one meaning, like the old Chinese curse.

* Art - There is a lot to see and experience in this life.  Creating art is the best way to remember it.  If you have a camera, you are an artist.  Me personally, I write, photograph, design and once in a while play music.  I made my living briefly as a professional musician, but it wasn't the life for me.  Besides, you play music, you don't work music.

* The Sea and The Mountains: there are no finer places on this Earth than the Andes or Sierra Mountains and the Caribbrean Sea, and I have been to lots of places.  The Caribbean and the tall mountains all have bright colors and clean air.

Much as I love NC, sorry, our mountains are hills compared to the Andes and most of our coastline has been ruined by too many baby boomer shacks.  Same goes for my hometown's beaches too.  The beach shouldn't have high rises in the dunes.  That's what I think, anyway.

* Sports: I love golf, even if I am not that good.  Think golf isn't hard?  Then why does Tiger Woods still take lessons?

I also love to watch ACC sports and pro hockey.  I used to like racing before racing decided to sell its soul for the money.  I mountain bike, hike, water-ski and other sorts of stuff.  I used to be a skydiver (116 jumps) and a ski racer, but the bones are getting brittle and the price of an accident is too high nowadays.

And so forth and so on.  Read this far?  Wow! Goodness gracious, sakes alive, you really do need to get a life...(I'm kidding, simmer down)

I am not that interesting.  Move along, nothing more to see here!!!

CB- Thanks for the tips on photography. I did buy photoshop elements. Haven't had time to play with it much. Need to spend a day out and about with the camera and just shoot. Don't ever seem to have the time. After work, too tired. Weekends, too busy. Did I see yesterday on my "Where are you" blog that you live in the mountains? If so I'm so jealous. Man, it took me for ever to write this. I've got a brace on my wrist, from a sprain, and it's one typo after another. It's going to be a long day, since my job is nothing but computer work! See ya in the Golos Dave

CB: Give them Secretary. It's a fantastic movie!

Sent a quick note on your blog before it disappeared on me..but wanted to say, (incase you didn't get it).. That I use to live/work in Charleston WV.. a broker I worked with (Bob Bonwell), use to go to Bridge Day every year and take these amazing photos of the jumps. I've yet to go and watch for myself. Which is inexcusible being that I'm a WV gal.

I think that it is a really well articulated love story. Also, Maggie and James are super hot!

yes, I do.....yipee!!!!

thx for asking! :)

Don't know if you were serious or joking about wanting a Redbone Coonhound, but if you are serious, I can sure put you in touch with some good breeders who are also hunters. Either way, I think "Cletus" is real cool name for a boy!!! Mine will be another little girl, though. I noticed a lot of owners who aren't hunters name their Reds Fred, not sure what's up with that, unless it's because it rhymes with red.

Hey Cb, I have been away takin care of the dog days of vacation. Hope you are doing well.

You have been posting some good blogs lately - thanks

I assure you the photo was of me! LOL

To answer your question . . . I teach 5th grade language arts and no, we don't diagram sentences. Given the population I work with, I'm just happy if they can respond in a grammatically correct sentence - passive voice or not!!!

I live at Sandy Ridge, it's about 6 miles outside of Dunn. (on 421 towards the beach) I like to play Keith Hills. I'll get up with you the next time I am going to Raleigh to play. have a nice day.

I'm not model material and I couldn't imagine sitting under a bunch of women everyday! I'll just stick to the academics! LOL

happy humpity hump day. I hope you and your family are doing well!

City of Truth sounds like a fascinating read. I'm going to pick it up. Glad I read your comment. -Angela

I love the bee pictures - the color and clarity is amazing.

Today is the anniversary of Congrees passing legislation to establish NASA. With your history and memories, maybe you could favor us with a story about it. Just a thought my friend.

charles, ref Dylan, better late than never. His music is forever, no one will be playing todays junk 30 + yrs from now.

thank you charles, but i long ago gave up worrying about the so called bruise. I do however pay attention to regular eye examines. but thank you for your concern

Repeating a response to you on my blog: Have you seen the interactive page NASA has up now to celebrate the 50 years? The interview with Cronkite is awesome!

Thanks for the link to the 78's. I actually have a fairly large collection of 78's and early 40's and 50's R & B. I am the only one I know that listens to Ruth Brown/ Shirley & Lee/Dinah Washington (she's my favourite)/ the 5 Royales, etc etc. Thanks so much

1. BBQ is a noun. You EAT BBQ. You GRILL a steak.

Barbeque is both a noun and a verb. The best bbq is cooked over wood, but most NC bbq is over gas. Grilling is a moot point-that's done quickly over a hot fire, not for hours low and slow.

2. BBQ is pig. Not chicken, not beef, not bison...those are something else. Not saying they aren't good, but they aren't Q.

You can bbq celery or bugs-end result is bbq. Not very good, but bbq never the less. My fav is NC Eastern style, second favorite is Texas beef brisket.

3. BBQ is properly cooked over wood. Gas is a poor substitute.

Agree.

4. It is an insult to BBQ to put any mustard based sauce on it.

Depends on the sauce.

5. People may debate Eastern vs. Western all they like, but each to his or her own.

Same with beef or pork.

6. BBQ is properly served with: Tea, slaw and boiled potatoes.

Boiled potatos? LOL Potato salad, maybe, or fries.

7. There is never a bad time to eat Q.

Usually not.

thanks for the suggestions !

Hi, even though I'm a fairly seasoned (newspaper) photographer, I'm stumped and hope you can help me out with some advice. I need to take an indoor picture for a billboard and am concerned about the resolution since I use a (Cannon) digital. Is this even possible? Thanks for any advice you might be able to give me.

Thanks, Charles! So you're saying my digital print can be blown up to billboard size? My photographs have been for newspapers or personal framing and I was afraid of losing quality when it has to be blown up considerably as I've never gone beyond an 11x14. Oh, too bad you live in Raleigh - if you were down this way, I'd beg you to go with me!! The photograph is of an animal gas chamber and is quite important. Thanks again!

Yes, I do have the Nik Filters...I just haven't played with them YET!!

Yep, if I sat down and browsed a few tutorials, I think I'd be more inclined to use it often. As it is, I've mostly used it for the histogram editing. I also played around with RAW images once, but figured for what I was doing it wasn't worth the extra disk space. Every once in a while, I may do some color changes or even make a graphic for a website, but until I take the time and make myself learn more, I won't be using it to its true potential. Google Picasa works fine for now, though. But I promise you I'll do more with Photoshop one day. I've got to master my digital camera features first! lol - Have a great weekend! - javajoe

I warn you now - some of my future pictures of the day are quite lame - for 'conversational purposes only' - that's my disclaimer, lol. Enjoy your afternoon! - javajoe

Bonsoir de Provence! J'ai visité la ville d'Aix il y a 2 ans. C'est une très jolie ville. La Provence est incroyable. Je ne suis pas française et je n'ai pas d'ancêtres français mais j'adore la France. A bientôt- Teresa

Sorry I didn't get back to you...I would be more then delighted to have you criticize my work...these are all my "firsts" I just started doing this about 2 weeks ago...

"It never ceases to amaze me how many of the local college basketball fans are, in fact, frontrunnin' fans. They wouldn't be admitted to Duke or UNC without a six figure donation from their Daddy, but they'll be the first to tell you how good the school is."

I always wonder of Duke fans, just how quickly they'd be escorted off the property of their "favorite university" if they actually dared to set foot on campus....

Hey CB, havent heard from you in awhile. Hope everyhing is well with you.

hi'ya stanger...hope things are going great for ya..have a great week!!{{HUGS}}}

Good to see a post from ya CB. Merry Christmas

Anchorage is so much like any other city in America anymore. It is NOT like the rest of Alaska!! You can get to Alaska with about a 30 minute flight from Anchorage!! If I were this guy, I might try and fight city hall, but you know it is hard to beat them, they are all lawyered up.

"If Alba's an airhead/pinhead, what does that make O'Reilly?"

a crackhead.

>Y2K didn't happen because people worked their tails off and got >stuff fixed. We simulated Y2K on our ERP system in a virtual >machine and all hell broke loose.

I agree that some work was required. I wasn't implying it was a complete non issue, just that it was hugely overblown. I think most of the issues that mattered were fixed with little fanfare because they were boring. Accounting software on ancient computers is dull, but unaffected things like airliners and power stations makes for great banter.

Personally I spend hours sorting through old code, in most cases finding that it dealt with the issue in some shape or form. Still, management insisted that we pay to have it "Y2K certified" where as someone else reached the same conclusion. My company alone needlessly spent millions for no reason.

have a great weekend CB

Thanx Charles...You're right the IR conversion ain't for me. But I have read that the D40 can take good IR pix with just an external filter. The IR rejection factor isn't as great in this particular model as other Nikons. So I'm still optimistic to making those kinds of pix. They look so otherworldly I've got totry my luck within reason. Take care.

Howdy, Charles! That pic was taken in Destin, or I should say across the Destin Pass bridge from Destin in Florida.

blankity blank blank

BSG? Did you watch the last episode? I was ready to go through the screen after the 5th Cylon. (Won't name them in case you aren't up to date)

I didn't think that I'd be watching Caprica after BSG ended, but now I think that I might have changed my mind. That being said, it would have to maintain the same level of quality as BSG.

You said - "There are tales of borrowers getting different papers than the ones that the bank kept. Countrywide was infamous for it. "

Wells Fargo also made this a common practice. Still does, as a matter of fact.

Thanks Charles!!!
