NC State Sports Website I Write For
My Personal Motto: "Life's short. Work hard. Play harder."
First things first: I hate writing online profiles -- they remind me far too much of those silly high school assignments where you had to write a two-page autobiography. How can you encapsulate an ongoing life in just a few words?
Where I Am From: Originally, Cocoa Beach in Florida. Yes, I have heard the "I Dream of Jeannie" jokes. No, the town is not like that. It is a mixed town of folks who work at Kennedy Space Center and is also a beach resort. Cocoa Beach has some of the best surf on the Atlantic Coast of the US. Good enough for a regular stop on the pro surfing tour. Maybe you've seen the RonJon's stickers on people's cars? That's my home town.
Anyway, I am from there because most of my family worked in the space industry at one time or another. When you watch documentaries about Apollo, Gemini or Mercury, more than likely you will see one or more of my relatives. I've seen my Mom, my Dad, my Grandfather and one of my Uncles. Me, I saw every single Saturn V ever launched...in person.
Why I Am In NC:
When the Apollo program came to an end, my parents found better jobs and that brought us here to Raleigh. We've been here since the mid-1970s. I can almost call myself a native. Almost.
What I Like:
* Travel - been to all fifty states. Been to dozens of countries. Some I would go back to in a second (California) and others I would skip.
* People - Everyone is interesting somehow. Just keep in mind that interesting can have more than one meaning, like the old Chinese curse.
* Art - There is a lot to see and experience in this life. Creating art is the best way to remember it. If you have a camera, you are an artist. Me personally, I write, photograph, design and once in a while play music. I made my living briefly as a professional musician, but it wasn't the life for me. Besides, you play music, you don't work music.
* The Sea and The Mountains: there are no finer places on this Earth than the Andes or Sierra Mountains and the Caribbrean Sea, and I have been to lots of places. The Caribbean and the tall mountains all have bright colors and clean air.
Much as I love NC, sorry, our mountains are hills compared to the Andes and most of our coastline has been ruined by too many baby boomer shacks. Same goes for my hometown's beaches too. The beach shouldn't have high rises in the dunes. That's what I think, anyway.
* Sports: I love golf, even if I am not that good. Think golf isn't hard? Then why does Tiger Woods still take lessons?
I also love to watch ACC sports and pro hockey. I used to like racing before racing decided to sell its soul for the money. I mountain bike, hike, water-ski and other sorts of stuff. I used to be a skydiver (116 jumps) and a ski racer, but the bones are getting brittle and the price of an accident is too high nowadays.
And so forth and so on. Read this far? Wow! Goodness gracious, sakes alive, you really do need to get a life...(I'm kidding, simmer down)
I am not that interesting. Move along, nothing more to see here!!!

"'We're talking about a 2-to-3 percent reduction in demand, which would mean a much larger percentage reduction in price, maybe 10 percent,' Greene said."
The next paragraph says this though,"Tom Kloza of the Oil Price Information Service in Wall, N.J., agreed that a 2-to-3 percent cut in demand likely would reduce prices. But, he notes, in past years price spikes were usually linked to refinery shortages while this surge has been tied more directly to crude oil prices. 'I don't think there's a particular downside to conservation, but that doesn't mean that if we cut back on our gas consumption, that the price of crude oil worldwide is going to drop,' he said." These are from here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24502653/
I also found this little tidbit of info:"The U.S. passenger vehicle fleet alone accounts for one-tenth of world petroleum consumption" from http://www.nrdc.org/air/transportation/gasprices.asp

Puts me in mind of that commercial where the guy is holding a butter knife to his stomach and getting advice from a surgeon on the phone. "Make an incision between the 3rd and 4th ribs." Guy looks hesitantly at the butter knife: "Shouldn't you be doing this?"

i was ...what....and you were what? lol... you may fill in the blanks...
one reason i am bulldogging you on this....as much as i hate to admit this...i do pay a bit of attention to what i blog... i try not to blog outright lies, i try to avoid the misleading things if i can. i assure you ted stampley was not one of my prouder moments and you will note...i do not say a thing about senator mccains service as a pow...except that he survived and that is all one can expect of anyone. I am careful about McCains service record as well.. my father was a vietnam vet. i thread very carefully on this subject...i was at ft bragg when the last pows returned....i will never forget it..women arriving with new husbands to see the husband they had been tol

I take you you're talking about my post on the tech blog. Yeah I focused my study on the hardware side of things... I'm for it getting MUCH better in the future through parallel processing. Being able to do so much with a tiny bit of real estate excites me... for example, the current state of the art 80x86 cpu sets on an area SMALLER than a dime at 7watts! It even includes the SMP registers for multiple processing support ... YES! a 1.4Ghz cpu core that doesn't even need a heatsink!

As far as the shots, opera goes almost always for b&w. Classic. I hated all the color shots anyhow. Although it would be fun to do something with a more natural background rather then a stupid drape :)
