Jax's real dad and Clay (step dad) formed the club it was suppose to be about anarchy against the gov't during the war, not drugs guns etc.
Jax's real dad died, and last season a conversation between Jax mom and clay implied that they had KILLED him because he wanted to keep the club "nice" and they wanted to go big and dirty.
Jax found a journal his dad kept about the club and his dream of it and what he did NOT want to happen to it. This really ticked his mom and clay off because now he tries to steer club in a "better" direction although still not "clean"
Jax's mom is really the "brain" behind this. She was power hungry and Jax dad wasn't towing the line so she wanted him gone. Jax of course does not know all of this yet.
Jax and girlfriend (doc) had a relationship years ago. she left because she was smart and bikers and club not her cup of tea. She came back and she and jax killed a man that was assaulting her and covered it up.

She then realized she still loved jax but was torn about the lifestyle. Jax mom told her that if she loved him and wanted him she HAD TO LEARN TO LOVE THE CLUB. Oh, and Jax had a baby by some crack head that his mom tried to kill by ODing. Anyway, that pretty much sums it up OH OH OH I forgot.Opie, the crazy one with tobaggan, well the club killed his wife, accidentally. They were going to kill him because they thought he was snitching (he was not) so the season ended with them shooting her in a drive by while she was driving his truck (they thought it was him) now he does not know clay ordered the hit, but jax has figured it out and that is part of why he hates clay so much now.
