Thank you. How are things going? Been keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, is God showing you a lot of things right now? He used to have to pin me in a corner to get my attention and then show me what He wanted me to know, I am getting a little bit better about hearing Him now.

"What's it a parody of?" or something similar.

I don't know for sure, but can guess you viewpoint on this subject; I'll explain anyway. A standard tactic of anti-abortion folks is to use pictures that show an aborted fetus, or a diagram, like the one in an earlier blog this morning, showing late term abortions.

The picture/blog was meant to point out that using such graphics or images are meant to muddy the waters by eliciting emotional responses from people and really don't promote or help discussion. Not that anyone on either side really wants to discuss. Either way, the pictures are used for shock value only.

So, by using a gross picture of a procedure that is life saving and done all the time, I was parodying, or holding up for ridicule, the folks that utilize this technique to get abortion outlawed.

I thought about doing it on Rhinoplasty, but felt that pictures of bowels could have a more desired effect.

Thanks for your questions.

"Due to music licensing, many songs (and scenes with songs) were replaced or removed in the syndication package, never to be seen again. Some of the voiceover 'fixes' are pretty poor."

I never knew! What a shame...." - yacs

Yep. I was in radio for 15 years so I had a soft spot for that show. The wiki has a section on the music licensing:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WKRP_in_Cincinnati

If they ever release a collection of the original uncut episodes, I'd definitely have to spring for it. :)

"Sandra, you made me turn to the dictionary this morning."

Beats turning to the bottle....especially in the morning.

This place has degenerated into a pure train wreck. Let me know how it turns out.

Hey, I responded to you on the original blog. Figured it be easier to tell you rather than cut and paste it here!

Happy Anniversary!

Hey... I think the Grace/Duckett was *at least* journalistically unethical. It was a calculated act whose sole purpose was to increase ratings. (As we know all news is about ratings in this day and age.) It was not at all in the vein of the old "60 Minutes" ambush interviews that were conducted with significant amounts of investigation and background info.

I would also say, (note I'm not a lawyer or cop), that I believe a case could be made against Grace and her cohorts for interfering with a Police Investigation, because clearly, had it not been for Grace, Duckett would not have committed suicide. At least not that quick.

I agree that there were some quilt issues there to begin with, but again, without Grace, they Police may have been able to fully resolve the issue.

I don't know, what do you think?

Dude Dan

How goes the comedy world? Life in the mountains is . . . um . . . interesting.

"Ever shop at Chess King? :-)"

Oh the shame.....why do you mock my pain?

I bought a garment-dyed bright red button up shirt at Chess King.

I wore it to a little club in Charleston WV that was super crowded and way too hot.

When I got home I was soaking wet and my skin was bright red from my neck to my waist and both arms down to the wrist.

It was over a week before I was able to wash off all that dye. I even tried soaking in rubbing alcohol to no avail.

Sure made a big impression on my fraternity brothers...

The big thing I miss about Raleigh is restaurants. For entertainment we get in the field where they put the bulls to get acquainted with cows and run for our life. Who ever falls gets moo-ed . . .

I've lost 10 pounds so far and can run a mile close to 5 minutes. Bulls are at 6 minutes still but are getting faster . . .

"She said 'Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing...' I said 'That's nothing, you should hear me play piano.' "

Dan, why is everybody in Raleigh so BORING? (Not YOU, but... most of these other... characters?)

"You guess wrong, at least with this person."

Don't you believe the reports from The Ministry?

The economy is not THAT bad...

Many people ENJOY being un-employed.

Why don't YOU?

We have always been at war with Eurasia.

"watch my stories"

LOL - you sound like my mother - she calls them 'stories' - I can go to her house fo a vist, catch one of her stories with a month long gap and they'll be talking about the same thing as the the time I saw it.

Wish I could get a job writing for those stories...maybe a 1000 words a week - cake...

Hi yacs. I see that journalist's comment in much the same light as John Lennon's remark that the Beatles are more popular than god, i.e., it wasn't intended as an assessment of their moral authority as much as their recognition in the public eye.

As far as Crisp, I always thought his avatar was a wonderful lampoon of himself.

Thanks, for your hand in friendship...I'll try harder to see the humor.

"You're sort of God."

"I can think of one or two instances in which the Ignore feature would be of genuine use -- the odd poster who seems to live to simply clog a blog with gibberish." - yacs

I agree. There is a small cluster of pot-stirring sock-puppets that occasionally show up - those are posters I might choose to ignore. :-)

"Btw, how'd you like the new Trek? We finally got to see it last weekend, and for me, it lived up to its hype!" - yacs

I'm looking forward to seeing it. We've been so busy lately we haven't had a chance to go to the movies. Hopefully I'll get to see it on the big screen. The Netflix rental would surely lose some of the "Trek Grandeur" and the eye-candy factor of the theater experience.

"shorn scrotum"

... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

All those movies are actually LOL funny. There are a lot comdey movies but the ones I remember most are the ones where I make an audible laugh - not just a chuckle at a witty scene.

One of my favorite scenes in the first Austin Powers is where he gets that cart stuck between the walls in that narrow corridor - pependicularly - beyond impossible but funny as hell...

"I still enjoy the absolute absurdity of the escalating dialogue about the Swedish enlarger."

This sort of thing IS my bag, baby....

"Don't go near my daughter again. Don't try to see her. Don't write her and don't phone her!"

"Can I use her underwear to make soup?"

I think it's about time for an Airplane thread - too beat tonight to do it myself after the wedding today, but now that I have had some real fun (first in a long while) I'm ready for some more - after a reasonable period of rest of course.

leg 'er down a smack 'em yak 'em!

hey, sorry no response to your post on my page, don't check that often.

hope you had a great weekend. happy summer!

You've never heard of gadar?

This may be a strange question, but are you on Facebook? It keeps popping you up as a friend suggestion for me. At least I think it's you. Just wondering.

It is you, then. I didn't know there was such a group. I'm still kinda new to Facebook, and I'm learning new things every day. How do I find the group?

BTW, I keep forgetting to ask, how's the job search going?

I'll check it out, thanks. I'm so glad about the job. I've been there, and I know the frustration, and mine was 3 years ago. So many people in the same situation, thru no fault of there own. It's so sad. I hope this will lead to something permanent. I love to read your articles, you crack me up!

Yes!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very happy to hear this

"Folks, please do not fall for such strawman arguments; they are deceitful and distracting. Read the bill, Google the comments of its biggest proponents, and decide for yourselves."

But...but..but..we've ALWAYS been at war with Eurasia...

Howdy stranger! Long time no talk. Hope you are doing well these days! It's going to be beautiful today!! Take care! :-)

"It's a great word, but it does seem to have become part of your personal brand."

Logical fallacies are one of the very few things that TRULY infuriate me.

No matter what argument one presents against a piece of legislation you'll be painted to look like you're IN FAVOR OF what the legislation allegedly addresses.

Against federal funding - you want people to die.

Against 'global warming?' - you're a shill for Big Oil and too stupid to discuss these highly scientific matters (I actually saw someone post that ONLY PhD's should be allowed to opine about AGW)

Want more doemstic oil production? - you're agaisnt any and all forms of alternative energy

Don't like how DC does things? - you're an anarchist

Don't want to pay more taxes? - you're selfish AND greedy

Recognize the dangers of Islamic Supremacists? - you want to kill all Muslims

Think Obama has soclialist ideals? - you're a racist

And we wonder why problems never get solved.....

Dan,

Many thanks for the nice response.

I do truly believe that there is so much hype out there, about so many things, that it’s difficult to know what is REALLY going on. And, to find out, takes time. In my particular case, time is very precious commodity.

It’s especially difficult to determine REAL motivations. I suppose, as I’ve grown older, that I have become more suspicious of motivations. I expect a more proper word is “cynical”. ;-)

I’m slowly putting together a small series of blogs that take a look at various issues and the actual reasons behind the positions as compared to reasons presented to the public.

The overall title is based on the many BBQ restaurant billboards that you see along the interstate: Never Buy Barbecue from a Pig.

Have a great 4th of July weekend ....

Len (aka STS)

I really like your reasoned, thoughtful approach to debate - even if I only follow that course about 10% of the time. My debate style depends on my mood. Some days I'm my real self - charming, witty, gracious and brilliant (did I mention gorgeous?) - but on other days, I'm just in a mood to pick a fight, and there's no better place than golo to find someone to take the bait.

As a master bait taker myself (whoa...maybe i should think about rewording that) I know which lures to use when I need to snag me a live one - lol.

But I do like your style. Congrats for being one of the few here who can remain above the fray.

Now tell me, what kind of lure should I use on you? :-)

"I think you used to know, but might have forgotten. If I told you, you'd probably have a much lower opinion of me. A few people know, but I'm just not very vocal about it. Figured it out yet?"

no. i have no idea. but i'm intrigued.

i checked out your website. you write humorous essays and you have a cat. what's not to like?

hey, if somebody has a sense of humor (and gets mine) and is willing to come up just short of hating me, i'm all for extending an olive branch :-)

"/* Grins mischievously. */"

scratches head...

Happy 4th!!! Have a safe and happy holiday weekend. :)

I did not get the bainwaves yet. Google has been lousy for me lately - it hangs, it is slow....maybe it will come later?

Maybe then I’ll be able to stop writing the dark, angry stuff, and go back to this column’s original intent of humor. Maybe."

It just NOW came...

Thanks for the friend invite. Somehow, I thought we were already friends, but apparently we were not. I'm glad that has been corrected!!!

So guess what? The Mystery Monday photo: closeup of a sunflower! I would definitely hate to see eczema that looks like that -- incredibly gross to even think about! LOL

Thanks for stopping by my blogs -- Have a great Tuesday!

Good morning!!!

Happy Humperz Day Yacs! Hope things are going great for you. Glad to see the Waves back.
