about rocknhorse

I've been a GOLO member for some time now and thought maybe it was time to update my profile.

As stated before, I'm a happily married mother of two wonderful kids.  Life doesn't get any better.  I am truly the luckiest person in the world to have my wonderful family!  My husband and I are self-employed and have been for 10 years.  We've had our struggles in the past, but it's the strength of our love that supports us through the tough times.

I am fortunate to have 4 horses, which I train using gentle methods.  I believe that you have to see the world through their eyes.  When you can successfully do that, then you can understand them and train them accordingly.  This philosophy works equally well when communicating with people.

I am an optimist.  Even during bad times, I seek the silver lining!  Every event, every mistake is a learning experience.  Rather than dwell on the negative, focus on the positive and don't waste the lesson!

I have been accused of being very opinionated and stubborn - neither are negative traits in my opinion!  I believe what I believe, but I'm open to other opinions.  While I may respect your opinion, that doesn't mean I'll agree.  Likewise, just because I may disagree, that doesn't mean I cannot still respect your right to your opinion.

I believe as Americans, we have been afforded the same opportunities.  Some of us took advantage of those opportunities and some did not.  Those who work to excel and to better their lives should not be held back for the benefit of those who do not!

I believe in a hand up but not a hand out!

I believe in accountability/responsibility for your actions!  Life is about choices and every action involves CHOICE!  If you make the wrong choice, you should be held accountable-no excuses!

Beauty comes from within!  It is confidence in being who you are and liking/loving that person!!!

Topics that are extremely important to me are drunk driving and anything that involves kids.  Wrecks that occur because of drunk drivers are not "accidents."  Kids need to be protected.  People who abuse kids should be dealt with in manners that I cannot state here.

Finally, I believe in honesty, but diplomacy when interacting with each other.

Welcome to my profile.  I have many pictures in my Image Gallery!  I welcome comments, thoughts, discussions and debates!

Thank you rocknhorse. :) How's the weather your way? Ours turned into a bitter disappointment, as it only dusted our yard. Nothing left of it this morning except around the trees. :( Hope you have a wonderful day! :)

That just makes you sound even more like MacGyver! LOL! Before I had kids, I would have been more likely to make something like that, rather than buy it. But now, the quicker the better. I just have to figure out how to do a safe rain barrel that I don't have to worry about the kids getting into. Are those pics of your horses? They're beautiful.

I sat and watch ICE AGE last night and laughed so hard my neighbor called me to see what was so funny. She had walked by my door and heard me cracking up and knew I didn't have company.

Hi Rockinhorse, I was just curious, how is the hay situation where you are? We had to go to PA for it and it was costly but the finest Timothy you will ever find. I hope I've stocked up enough until this years first cutting.

Just 2 in the pic are mine, the old (over 30) white gelding (we're reasonably sure he's thoroughbred/arab cross) and the black mare (TWH). I've always ridden english but want to learn western since I don't ride nearly a well as I once did and am looking more for just a relaxing trail ride. Are the 2 in your pic yours? They're beautiful. As far as hay goes, I'm pretty sure that I have enough but will always share info with others if you know of any sellers, I'm sure I know buyers and vice versa.

I didn't see no hay like that when I went to PA. ;)

Wow...0 - 0 - 1 !!! Now what would have been the odd's of that happening? It's pretty cool to see those little things happen. I used to play that Pick 3 but with the low payout , I switched over to Carolina Pick 5. I know the odds are a lot steeper but the payout works for me. LOL..of course even the $250 or the $500 ob the Pick 3 would be nice today. Take care, and have a good week.

Good Monday to you...I am being very lazy today, yipee!! Staying in and staying warm. :)

Just read your update. You should run for office.

Good Monday morning! Hope you're staying warm!

Good morning Rocknhorse. It's a beautiful cold day in the neighborhood. Have a great day and stay warm!!

A long story on that situation and I am not typing on this website...you never know who is looking if you know what I mean *wink*

Yes mine as well because I am an animal lover and I hate to see and hear what these go through and no one helps them. Listening to them outside all night crying in the cold. BTW how did your horses manage through the cold night??? Do you blanket them on such nights??? My Gosh I would be like you and want to bring them indoors *LOL*

Oh Yes perfect sense to me...I always wondered how they managed years in the wilderness in all the eliments without such help from humans...and the Mounties in Canada with their horses in feet of snow. My Friend blankets his older mare who is 15 years old or so...he likes her to stay warmer but the younger ones he does not.

"Animal Control (who only responded M-F, 8am-5pm). I called Wake Co. Sheriff who wanted us to handle it among ourselves"

I had a similar experience with these 2 agencies awhile back. A stray dog in serious need of help wandered into our yard. He was starving and he'd growl if you got too close. I called the Sheriff, Animal control and humane society. They each told me to call the other. It was a holiday weekend. The sheriff told me they'd only come if someone was bitten. I asked if I'd have to prove it, and he got mad with me and told me it would be a misdemenor if I said I'd been bitten and I hadn't.

I just saw they changed the headline,so I left another comment.Thx.That was about as visual as some on here talking of pootin and barfig to use a better word.Disgusting.

email me at FeistyRedneckDiva@hotmail.com if you can not sign up and I will help you!

Thanks for stoping by my site! I'm glad that you enjoyed the "real Americans" pics. Being 75% cherokee, I hold them very close to my heart. Have a great day!

Morning, gal! You did not put me on the defensive... remember what I said about 'sticking my leg down my throat'? That's what I would have done...

I will not be one to start verbal sniping on here with people just because we don't know where each other live - most especially if it doesn't have any financial impact on me!

After years of dealing with hubby's ex-wife (who is the sister of Satan himself), I am all about harmony and will dodge confrontation whenever possible!

Good morning! Hope you have a wonderful day!

thanks! I really didn't know how much I was missing by not having a profile.

Hi Rockn, just wanted to pop in and say Hi and hope you're having a great day.

Thank rocknhorse -I'll have to look for that movie. No matter what the corcistaces are behind this story (time will tell) it is still such a shame for anyone to die like this. Or any way for that matter. Have a nice evening. I'm a such movie buff and I can't believe I did not see Kinghts tail and everyone is talking so highly of it. MUST SEE!

sorry for the typo- Meant to say circumstances. sorry about that.

No.. the guy did not come back. Hopefully it will stay that way, but we will see!

What a beautiful horse! Sounds like we're cut from a similar cloth!

Thanks for the YV advice. I like it and it is something to cinsider when we move from the condo into a house early 2008. I appreciate the info.

Beautiful horse.. You are luck to be able to ride when you want to :-)

Have a wonderful sunday !!!

Hello, Thanks for the note! If there are any questions that I could possibly help with, please let me know. I love to "show off" our place up here, even though I was born and raised Tarheel. Again, if there is anything I could do to help, let me know.

Hey! Thanks for all of the helpful information, we do appreciae it! It is so hard dealing with big companies when you have to start with the "hourly employees." I noticed that you have horses and seem to love them! I love horses but my husband is scared of them. ;) However, he started working for Coastline Trailers last March. They sell new and used refridgerated trailers, storage trailers and horse trailers. I just wanted to let you know in case you have anything you're looking to get rid of. My husband works for a friend of his from high school and his wife used to be in "horse competitions." I don't really know what it's called but she has a bunch of ribbons and plaques and stuff. I remember being over there when a horse race was on before and she turned her head and said she couldn't watch them whip the horses anymore. Anyway, you reminded me of her when I read your profile. ;) Have a good night!

My mom has 2 horses- joshua and daniel..ironically i have cousins with the same name ( although, the horses have better manners than them! lol)

Good morning rocknhorse, I hope you have a great week.

Morning Rocknhorse - did you see that there's a free house to be moved in Durham? You could do this ALL OVER AGAIN! Get to it, girl! lol

Susan

Rockn, you know that I was j/k. You wouldn't face the fires of hell a second time. But maybe you could hire yourself out as a consultant - you sure know what to expect. And earn big bucks.

Have a great day.

Susan

Just saw the pictures of your wreck! You are a very lucky person to make it out o.k. God Bless.

The thing I hate the most about our judicial system is the lack of accountability placed on drunk drivers. I believe that if someone drives drunk, causes an accident that ends up killing someone, they deserve to be charged with murder. If by God's grace the person they hit makes it, they should be charged with attempted murder!

Hi Rocknhorse. I added your image gallery to the GOLO homepage after reading about it in your blog. I think it would be a great idea for you to add that image gallery in your actual blogpost. Do you know how to do that? Just go in to edit your blog and maybe type a line like "See pictures here." Highlight that line and insert the full url from your image gallery into the little box that says URL, and save. Certainly up to you but I bet people want to see those pictures after reading the blog. -Angela

Thank you, friend. Your comment about wrecks by irresponsible drivers not being an "accident" made my day...THANKS.

OMG when were you in an accident??? Are you Okay??? Just seen the pictures. *HUGS*

Hi Rockn, just saw those very dramatic pictures. I hope that the safety features of your vehicle did their job and you weren't injured. Best wishes to you.

Accidents happen fast and can be deadly. I was sitting at a stop sign for a road that crossed over a 4-lane highway when suddenly a man on the opposite side entered the highway right into the path of a lille car occupied by two college girls. When they hit the Ford Galaxie broadside, the rear of their car came off the grond upon impact, and both girl's head hit and broke the windshield. They were hurt badly, and were crying and certainly in shock. They ended up having to have plastic surgery. I had to testify what I saw. Oh my...I can still picture in my mind that little car hitting that Galaxie, and those girls slamming forward into the windshield. The driver of the Ford wanted to not stop, but was blocked in by other drivers about a hundred yards from the accident. Inever found out if he was drunk, but my guess was he was.

Hey girl and family...you have a wonderful profile. I looked at your pics and finally saw a black dog, I skipped thru the ones with your cute kids, until I found a dog!

I have even seen an old man pull out in front of an ambulance with the lights and sirens blaring, and he pulled out soooo slow and I don't know how in the world that ambulance didn't hit him. He kept going down the road about 20 mph while I almost had a heart attack watching it.

The old lady that hit me, totaled my mini van too. She hit the tire and transmission and the transmission fluid was all over the ground and it is red! And I was in shock, I remember, that LOOKS like blood, but I was the only one in there. Then my MIL and FIL and SIL and my parents came and everyone was hysterical and my SIL was screaming where did all that blood come from.

But, thankfully it wasn't blood.

Sorry I laid down and fell asleep...was up to early this morning.

Yes it did get a bunch of feedback. I hate the fact that they always walk away from an accident and the innocents pay with their lives or injury. I hope your Blog helps people think.

I just realized you live out by my Aunt...she lives off of White Church Road...42 to 56 and turn by Don Lee's store. Is that close to you???

We go 42 to Old Drug Store Road...follow to the end is 56

Good Tuesday morning to you! By the way, when I read your blog (and your post this AM) I must say that your family is quiet lucky to have a mother and wife that puts her family foremost first in all you do. Have a great day

I read your blog posting and agree with you! Your kids should know what exactly it means to have the responsibility of driving and that it comes with more responsibilities than they think!

I read a couple of your other comments as well - Hwy 42 ends at Hwy 50, not 56! I used to live just a couple of miles from Don Lee's store! I know exactly where that is, it's in the middle of no where too!!! It's a nice area, but I got tired of driving so far to get anywhere!

You are a very brave person. Thank you for sharing such a moving story. I wish that the drunk driver who hit you could read the story of your recovery, and how it's affected you. I wish that he had spent a signifigant time in jail. It's obvious this person didn't learn.

Thank you rocknhorse. :) My daughter was asked by my ex husband's cousin (18, pregnant and married) if she would like to move her car. DD, being only 11, was excited at the prospect. She was in a driveway that was rather small and serviced 4 homes. She moved the car, with exes cousin outside the car directing her. She hit a truck, and the car stopped after busting all the windows in the truck. Daughter put the car in park and pulled up the emergency brake and began to get out of the car. The driver's door had been open the whole time and was bent backwards, as dd was not tall enough to see through the rearview mirror! With one leg out, she was standing, and the car began to move. The door came back shut on her leg and broke it. From there, she was dragged backwards into a lightpole and crush and nearly split in half! We sued and settled out of court before knowing of her ongoing medical problems. Unfortunately, she has ongoing problems from the lacerated intestines and ruptured bladder

My ex and I divorced for partly that reason. He began to exhibit anger towards my daughter. He was not the father of her or my oldest son. I was 2 hours away when this happened, where my mother was undergoing surgery and had just came out of the OR having problems breathing when I recieved the call. I rushed to Chapel Hill, where I had thought she was being air lifted, but later learned they were sending her by ambulance due to weather. She is an extremely lucky girl. The Dr's said had she not been so active in soccer and muscular, she most likely would have died. The $500,000 she got from the lawsuit is paltry in comparison to what she has and continues to go through. But, we thank God every day for her being here and know he has a plan or purpose for that. :)

Hey Rockn', you are truly blessed. And I can tell from your blog that you know it and appreciate it. You have an awesome attitude and sense of humor and it sounds like a terrific husband to boot. Enjoy, you deserve it.
