During my years at NCSU, I took an internship in Montana with the Department of the Interior. In 10 weeks, I traversed and mapped over 10000 miles worth of roads and trails in the (then) newly created Upper Missouri Breaks National Monument. It was important to me to be part of this because every day we lose thousands upon thousands of acres of the most pristine lands to development in our country. This park was formed to halt the damaging effects of improper land use by cattle farmers and hunters who have been damaging the delicate ecology in that region.
If you plan to vacation in this area (which I HIGHLY recommend you do!), chances are the maps you will use were created utilizing the data I generated for the BLM.
The profile image is of one of the many hundreds I'd taken while surveying the region. This is a vista looking east/northeasterly in the Cow Creek area.
