Tinu, I think my brother was born in the new Rex 17 months after me.

Amen about Eastern BBQ. The other stuff can be very good -- but it's just not BBQ. I'm happy to report that polling by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh confirms that NC residents surveyed prefer Eastern to Western by a considerable 18-point margin.

Oh, one more thing. "Barbecue" is NOT a verb! I don't care what the dictionary says.

OK, finally someone who admits to actually liking Citizen Kane. Just what do you find so facinating about that movie that it is consistantly ranked the number one movie of all time? I've watched it several times and I just don't get it.

I liked Citizen Kane because it was so well written. A dying man whispers “Rosebud” and the rest of the movie explains what it all meant - plot, characters, character development, pacing…few have meet that standard since.

Hey Brian. Check out my newest blog.

Hey Brian- Its Nick! Whatsup? I was thinking and I've come up with the idea that you should convince the WRAL news director to let you air a live segment of mentos and altoids outside of the WRAL studios and .Milky might even be able to come and provide pro help! Whada say?

Hey, Steve... Well, I'm glad you asked the question!

I think "Citizen Kane" is a well told story about someone's search for purpose in life. It also explores the same themes of media, politics and humanity that another of my favorite films, "A Face in the Crowd," examines.

Aside from the story, the film is a visual delight. All of the deep-focus cinematography is more than just eye candy -- it really helps to tell the story.

Brian. Thanks for checking out my blog. I'm touched. You provided some insightful comments on my blog. Keep up the good work.

My pleasure, sick of thugs 4. Keep up the great posts!

Hello Brian, first I would like to say you do a great job reporting. You also have great taste in TV & movies. I don't think Andy ever recieved the recognition he should have for "Face in the Crowd." "The Wizard of Oz" is probably my all-time favorite, my wife & I had the opportunity to see the theatre version last summer in Raleigh and it was a great, great show! Thanks for all that you do at WRAL & have a Great Day!

Historians... Thanks for your nice note. You're absolutely right about "Face in the Crowd." Andy's performance is outstanding.

For those of you who haven't seen it, Andy plays Sheriff Taylor's antithesis. He starts out an aw-shucks man of the people. Success turns him into a monster. It's a great study of the nexus between politics and media, and I think it has held up well for a 50-year-old movie.

I see you like James Bond movies, historians. What's your favorite?

Great idea, Nick! We'll have EMS standing by. ;)

I don't know about the whole move and show thing..Andy is a great actor..but your taste in food is superb! NC BBQ is THE BEST....I have lived in several states in the south...and nothing compairs. I guess NC has great BBQ like Maryland has great crab cakes and Main has great lobster and Louisiana has great cajun...and you get the picture...lol

Thanks, jasmineandbrian2. You're right; nothing else compares to NC BBQ.

Don't get me wrong. I loved my ribs in Tuscaloosa this weekend and my Tennessee pork shoulder at Jack's in downtown Nashville -- but it's like comparing peas to bananas. Completely different food experiences.

Whenever I'm on vacation, I always have to sample the local food. That's one of the highlights of a great vacation!

I guess yalls BBQ here is ok, if you like Vinegar on your BBQ. Texas BBQ is the best!!! Nothing compares to it. I have tried both and I guess I am just more fond of my Texas BBQ because I lived there for so long and grew acustom to it.

Brian, I told my husband we should buy 49 Smithfield BBQ franchises and put one in each states capitol...What do you think? Wouldn't it be nice to go to Florida or even Hawaii and get the same great NC BBQ as if you were at home?

And i did not miscount the states...I figure 49 since Raleigh already has one :)

BTW nice name...my oldest sons name is Brian...It means "strong." That is for the strong characters he will develop as a young adult and man one day...Looks like your parents gave you the right name...Great character and great broadcaster! Keep it up!

Thanks, jasmineandbrian2, for your very kind comments. I'll make sure my mom and dad see what you wrote about my name! ;)

I think you and the husband have a great idea about taking NC BBQ to all corners of the country.

I say you take it around the world! I had the pleasure of introducing some Japanese visitors to BBQ (at Smithfield's, in fact) a few years ago. They were instant fans and ate it regularly for the rest of their visit.

Go forth and create wealth! ;)

WHat an original Hi-5. Loved it.

Live & Let Die is my favorite Bond film, but they are all good. What is your favorite?

hey brian- I made a golo profile. yay.

Historians... I'm definitely partial to Roger Moore as Bond, which I think is a function of my age more than anything. When I was a kid, those were the ones they always showed on TV.

I think "For Your Eyes Only" is my favorite. From the Connery era, "Goldfinger" is probably my favorite.

Hey, I'm finally up on this GoLo thing. I like it. Thanks for your encouragement.

My dog's name is Bonita. :)

sayittomyface, What a "Pretty" Name!

It really is! ;)

Hey Brain I watch your segment on the "Catch the wind" @ the NC Museum of Life & Science, got to say that I ejoyed waching that. It looks like real fun. Keep up the good work.

In His Name, Be Bless

Thanks, InhisName! We had fun shooting, and I'm glad you enjoyed watching it. Welcome to Golo!

I have never been there...I have never heard of it..and I am always looking for places to go..have you ever been to wisemans view to see the brown mountain lights?

Have ya been to Ridgewood BBQ in Tn?

O one more...how is the membership drive going...I wished I got wral in the mountains...Charlotte news is the pits..

Looks like you know a lil' something about bbq! I love Stephensons. Have you ever heard of Holts Lake Seafood & BBQ? They have great family style. Have a great weekend.

Strolling... I haven't been to Ridgewood BBQ. I Googled it, and it looks perfect. I'll have to make it to Bluff City next time I'm roaming around the Tri-Cities.

Carter Family Fold is a great way to spend a Saturday night. It's a wonderful outdoor amphitheatre in the mountains. The Carter family brings in old-time acoustic and bluegrass groups every Saturday through the year. It's such an authentic experience. I think it's $5 to get in. You can't beat it. Head up to Hiltons, VA, north of Kingsport.

And thanks for asking about Golo membership. It's going very well. We're getting a steady stream of folks creating profiles. and blogs. It only gets better from here!

Hey, NorthCarolinaNative. I haven't been to Holt's Lake BBQ, but I'll have to check it out -- maybe this weekend! Thanks for the tip.

Has anyone else tried Lane's Seafood and Steakhouse off Hwy. 50 between Angier and Benson?

BBQ is good for the soul! My favorites are in Western NC... Carolina Country BBQ, Sonny's Real Pit BBQ, and Hillbilly's BBQ - all in the Charlotte/Gastonia area. Locally I dig the Q-Shack. Great brisket there!

Ahhh -- a western NC BBQ person! Welcome, Broker. No question that the Q-Shack is delicious. Great sides, too. Their Cobb Salad is a favorite.

Don't you think Elton is sounding better now than ever? He's at peace with himself, happy, and it shows! I enjoy your weather casts. I worked at NCState for years as a secretary and we were allowed to take one class/semester. I took a beginning meteorology course because I'd always been interested in the subject. I had taken nothing but business courses... business math, etc. No algebra, geometry, trig. Well the first day of the class they started talking about saline amounts in the ocean and all the equations went up on the board. I was totally lost! I envy you... math was never my best subject and your job involves a lot of it. Keep up the good work.

Hey, Ayngel. You must have me confused with one of the meteorologists. I do the WRAL.com segments -- but I am a weather geek. However, it sounds like we're in the same boat when it comes to math. I'm pretty bad at it. I took a stab at meteorology in college, but the pre-calculus course put a quick stop to that.

And yeah, I think Elton sounds great these days! His last three albums have been some of his best.

Boy, is my face red! I'm sooo sorry for the mix-up.

No problem!!!

In response to the animal post on the blog...these aren't exactly cute and cuddly, but it's an awesome video of a man hunting deer with the aid of a golden eagle.

Yikes!

Hey Brian! if you want you can hop over to my profile and take a look at the picture gallery. it was my try at creating some wral graphics!

Brian, Did you read the entire ROJO Story??

Cuzin, I'm afraid I missed it. Can you post a link or e-mail me: bshrader@wral.com?

Oh, I see it now. I'll read it this morning. Thanks.

Brian the ROJJO thing is in my blog now. Hope you enjoy.

There may be more to come. "Just for kids-kids of all ages that is" I'm think about "Betty the Beautiful Butterfly" I've started a little about butterflies on my blog. Folks wanted something for kids so it's on the launch pad.

Hey Brian - thanks for checking out my profile. Keep up the good work at WRAL. I have been going down to Carteret County county all my life...wonderful place!

Carteret County is just a magnificent place to be. I've been going there all of my life, too. I want to retire to Beaufort. It's my ideal coastal town. Down East Carteret County is beautiful. Harkers Island, Shackleford, Fort Macon -- it's just perfect down there!

Check out my profile monkey. He is awesome!
