Thanks for the changeup. Everyone can express themselves a little bit if they choose.

Hey Johnway ... just posted the first selection for the GOLO Book Club at www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/1698261/. Hope you'll be able to participate!

So nice to meet you today! It was a blast!

Great pix of the BRP. Thanx for sharing them.

Any advice on A/C repairs for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have read that the evaporator core is prone to failing and that replacements are expensive because the dash has to be taken out and it is a bear. Suggestions on how to go about this? I know to stay away from dealers, so should I find an A/C repair specialist or Jeep repair specialist? Any idea on reasonable costs?

Let me try a give you a rational non-promoting answer.... 1. Reading about one's car is the best homework any consumer in preparation for seeking service work can do. Consumer reports, Jeep owner websites and other venues have a wealth of information made publicly available. 2. The location of a certain part does not dictate the cost of that part. Certainly the location and manufactures procedures for removal and replacement can mean big $$$ in labor. 3. "I know to stay away from dealers"....Dealers are not the devil, they are just a company trying to make money.

...to be cont...

Continued....

3. The dealers have tools, resources, and parts availablity that make them fast, and as reliable as the mechanic doing the work. They are also the one's who handle recalls and manufacture's warranties. I will not advise pro versus con regarding this subject. I would be upset if someone talked poorly regarding my business...and it is a violation of the ASE "Code of Conduct".

4. "Specialist's" Because of the "Right to Repair" legislation, automakers are required to make public all the necessary maintenance requirements to service vehicles bought and sold in the US. Any competent shop that meets the EPA guidelines for A/C work with regards to the FREON evacuate and recovery laws and has a good reputation for quality and service would be the answer here. In the best interest of my own reputation, I make it a point NOT to specify any given shop over another.

5. Reasonable cost....this is where homework comes in....

...Shop rates are going to vary, just as there is a wide range of prices for "after-market" OEM parts. As a repair facility you will not likely find one that will warranty a part they did not sale....therefore they have the ability to add whatever percentage they as a business wish for their parts inventory, cash flow, etc. The cost of the labor should be "by the book" regarding the time it takes to do a repair. We are all drawing from the same source on this.....So if you go to a shop that has a high labor rate, and expensive parts...then you can do the math.....

The flip side of the coin is the old adage...."You get what you pay for!"....

I hope this has helped in some small way and I appreciate your questions....

Hi John! Thanks for the nice note!
