Eddie's a brilliant lyricist; just goes to show how talent will shine through when someone has their heart in it as opposed to some of the manufactured carp we see from other artists.

I've always loved "Rats" from their early days - pure genius. Irony, sarcasm, and applicable to so many people and groups w/o naming one. Think I'll go listen to it in my car.

On being Buddhist. It started in India, spread to China and finally Japan. The sect of Buddhism I was in was Nichiren Shoshu, which is Japanese Buddhism. There is a fairly large community here. There were a lot of reasons why I left it. One was vigorous spreading of the ways, recruiting to me. I'm not into recruiting. I joined because I was interested and learned about it myself, not because someone asked me to come to a meeting. The other thing was, former christians who become Buddhist but can't get over being christian. Especially Catholics who can't stand the idea that we were Pagans. Yes, we were Pagans, we worshipped the Gods of the Ancestors, and big whoop, I'm not a christian anyway. The thing is, and I guess due to the culture, we worshipped Gods only, no Goddesses. Reverance was given to the Dragon King's Daughter on occassion, but, she never was the Dragon Princess, she was the Dragon King's Daughter.

Another reason was the separation of the priesthood and the lay believers. That wasn't so bad, you could always attribute it to a reapect thing. But then one year, the High priest died and a new one came to be. And the new one was not very priestly, in fact, he was so crooked that they'll probably have to screw him into the ground when he dies. Then, there came to be a lot of finger pointing and name calling, and no thanks. At its basis, the ways are very profound and good, but add people, and well, like I said, no thanks.

I'll get that recipe to ya as soon as I can.

Well, attending the meetings weekly is very important. You go and chant together for about 30 minutes, sitting on your knees, and then give/listen to encouragement from eachother and experiences of how your practice has worked in your life. When I moved out to Wendell, it became harder and harder to drive into Raleigh after working all day. Recently it was brought up that the Church needs to take into account that multiplying fruitfully was probably ok back in the day, but these days it's more important to mate responsibly, not have kids you can't afford. Well, in the same way, spreading the ways as hard as you can to as many as you can and keeping after those you recruit may have been important back in the day, and the Japanese culture aligns more with that kind of thing. I began to realize that I have Pagan ways, I'm not having a hard time adjusting. And you know what? I'm not Japanese either. What does my own culture have to offer? And so, I quit.

I lived in Wendell for 6 years, fell in love with eastern Wake County. So when construction went south after 9/11, and I ended up having to give up my house, I moved to Knightdale. Just to straighten that out, since my profile says I live in Knightdale.

Well, duh, you don't know when I moved out to Wendell. I moved out there in 1998, in the spring. I quit within a year. By 2000 in the spring, I started exploring the ways I have now.

I have enjoyed the images of your little Maggie May. Looks like she has a nice, safe home. Woof!

Dolly, if you haven't been to the book sale, I encourage you to go. On Saturday, hardcovers are $2 and paperbacks $.50. Sunday it's a whole box for a couple of dollars, though they are pretty picked over by then. It's fun, and there are tens of thousands of books to choose from. We go every year and keep adding to the 500 or so books at home! If I see you there, I'll wave.

Susan

eddie was here!

So how many hand salutes did you get in class while it was playing? Were there any heads banging? I bet that was classic and I hope you received an A.

LOL- That is classic!

LOL at Christmas parade remark! Thanks for the compliment on hubby, he's my guy and I am crazy about him! Kind of interesting turn of events this week after our conversation at the TIMA meeting, isn't it?

Hopefully I have gotten my message across - leave me alone. I am past tired of it. When will Ms Fifi be back? Tell her Tucker said "wooof"...

Good morning Dolly, it was a great surprise to see that you left me a message. I will try to find the time to read that book. I hope you have been doing great. And again it was great to hear from you!!!

Good Morning Dolly

I just wanted you to know that I didn't forget about the Stink Soup recipe, I've just been soooooo busy getting ready for the puppy. This weekend I finished up cleaning and puppy-proofing the kitchen, that's where she'll be living while I'm at work. I crawled around on my hands & knees cleaning every nook and cranny when a puppy nose might reach. I think I'm ready. I feel like I'm adopting a little human and I'm a little nervous! And soooo excited!

Blessings Paula

Thanks so much! I wonder if I could keep my full time job...do you know? Is this a "work from home" type position? Any clue on the pay range? I am very interested. If the pay was acceptable I would be willing to leave my current job. Thanks SO much for sending this my way!! :)

hello there and happy thanksgiving to you. hope it's a good one!:)

Hey Dolly! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Dolly, long time no hear. I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving. Listen to some TJB for me! :)

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from me and mine :-)

dolly i just looked at your blog and if i remember right you need both mint marks for these to worth something later. bumming you out? hope not. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!:)

I made it home safely, and just in time for a tender and wonderful venison roast to come off the grill. I brought 11 1/2 pounds of sweet potatoes with me. My sister wants me to make "Sweet Potato Pone", (among other SP dishes) AND she has an old recipe. I'll copy it and bring it back. Dial-up sucks! Talk to ya when I get home!

Paula

Do you have to be invited to read/discuss the book you have listed for the book club?

Good, I've already started reading it. Pretty interesting and funny! Thanks Dolly. ;)

Thanks for the welcome please keep me in mind if you need any work done around the house thanks again Scott

Hi, I hope you are doing well. I would never write you and complain but, this one guy is driving me nuts. His name is "knotty" I try to be civil to everyone on here, but he seems to want to tell me how Un-American I am. I am a vet and dont want anyone doubting my patriotism as I would never question his. Thanks for being patriotic as I am, and I am not a drama king....Please know that...you can see by my posts that I sometimes want to engage people, but would never disrespect anyone. This post was in reference to the story about Ted Kennedy's book. I never wanted to engage him in some deal that would offend him or me either. After I messaged with him, I was totally offended. I dont want to be a "crybaby" but I would sure want him put in his place. Thank you for any assistance you can give me in this matter.

Stink Soup

3 chicken quarters, white, dark or mix

1 cup baby carrots, diced

1 cup celery, diced

1 8oz package fresh mushrooms, sliced

about a 4 inch by 2 inch piece of fresh gingerroot, peeled and grated

12-14 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped up (trust me)

1 tbsp dried lemon thyme

1 tbsp salt, or to taste

3/4 cup small seashell pasta

Stink Soup, continued

In a 5 quart pot, boil the chicken in water with 1 tbsp salt. Skim off the foam that comes to the top as the chicken cooks. When the chicken is done, remove the pieces from the pot, let them cool, skin and bone them and tear the meat into chunks, reserve. Let the stock cool and put the pot in the refrigerator overnight or long enough for the fat to come to the top and harden. Remove the hardened fat from the pot. Add the carrots, celery, mushrooms, gingerroot, garlic and lemon thyme to the stock and boil until the carrots are done. Add the reserved chicken and bring to a boil. Add water as necessary (It's soup, not stew), check to make sure the soup is salty enough after adding water. When the soup comes to a boil, add the pasta and cook for about 5 minutes, remove from the heat and cover. The pasta will finish by absorbing the soup. Allow to sit for about 20 minutes, until it cools. Can be frozen in serving sizes.

Remember, this soup is intended as a cold remedy, but it's really good too. The garlic will smell a bit when it starts to cook, but not too long. Fresh gingerroot has stringy fibers in it, so don't freak out at the end and think there's hair in the soup. I make a batch every autumn and freeze portions until I need them, during the winter if I start to feel a bug coming on. I hope you like it.

Thanks for the note Dolly. :) As far as snow...HOLY COW, our drought is about as bad as yours is! What little snow we had melted some over Thanksgiving, and now we have about 3 inches on the ground. I sure hope we get some more before it turns 40 below or colder. We need at least 8 inches on the ground for insulation to keep our septic lines and the such from freezing. You can check out the web cam downtown on our newspaper bldg. It is called the ArcticCam and is at newsminer.com Hope you are having a super day and again, thanks for the note.

Hey Dolly...do you have a dog? I saw your name as the owner of a dog on WRAL this morning. Could there be 2 Dolly Sickles in the Triangle?? -D

Goodmorning Dolly :-) Yes, it does get colder than -35. Actually it can get ALOT colder than that. In Jan 89 we had three weeks at my house here off Badger Road that it never got ABOVE -60. We live in one of the infamous "low lyling areas" out of town. (you know, all that 'cold sinks to the lowest place') During that cold spell I saw temps in the mid -70s several times. When it is that cold, you stay inside and only go outside to get more wood for the woodstove. Cars pretty much quit running at around -55 or colder. As it is, fan belts break (looks like black snakes all over the streets) and tires will go flat because when the flat spot hits you can have flats because it breaks the seal between the tire and rim. (at -50) Just so you know though, most of our winter is spent within 15 degrees of zero (maybe global warming) with cold snaps and warm spells. We do almost always have a spell of -40 and colder for long periods of time though. Winter lasts from OCT-APR.

cont. We rarely get above freezing from OCT till the end of APR. I hope you are having a fantastic day, and thanks for the note!!

Dolly, Just thought I would show you are climate data for today. My girlfriend and I are going out and take some pics of Santa's house, maybe I can catch him working, and of the Alaska Range once it gets light. Hopefully I will have it on a gallery by bedtime there...Here is the data from the National Weather Serivce for today:

THE FAIRBANKS CLIMATE NORMALS FOR TODAY NORMAL RECORD YEAR MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE (F) 6 41 2002 MINIMUM TEMPERATURE (F) -12 -54 1909

SUNRISE AND SUNSET NOVEMBER 29 2007..........SUNRISE 1013 AM AST SUNSET 307 PM AST NOVEMBER 30 2007..........SUNRISE 1016 AM AST SUNSET 304 PM AST

Holy Cow that cut and pasted terrible. It is the Normal High 6, Record High 41 in 2002....Normal Low -12 and Record Low -54 set in 1909. Sorry for that confusing deal.

Dear Dolly, Long time no hear. How was Thanksgiving? Have you listened to Herb & Julius yet? I'm still plugging away at my new job. The people are nice here. I joined back into the choir last night, so I'm singing with one of your compadres.

Baby doll... I have been to the mountain and I have been to the valley...I am back! How are you? Still Alice in wonderland, stuck down in the pits of ...I mean stuck down in the rabbit hole?

She'll be about 70 pounds.

Thanks! If you know of where I should send my resume, let me know via the email address on the blog!

Hi Dolly! Thanks for the warm welcome. I love your posts about gardening and I particulary got a kick out of the one about bannana trees in NC! I have several that are over 30 years old inherited from my Granny and her green thumb. I'd be glad to give you one next spring.

Heya Dolly! I am Denise's daughter and she asked me to the travel blog in stead of her. There will be many image's on the blog in the future! Have a great evening!

very nice

Hello Alice...nah, I like Hello Dolly so much better :-)

Thanks Dolly! I'll check out that lights thread. :)

Morning Dolly, I have a question: the bulbs we planted in mid-November are already sprouting in this mild weather - is this good or bad?

BTW, I'm Susan

You're a hard person to catch up with. You must be really busy. How have you been?

Morning Dolly!! Missed you yesterday afternoon. Hope you're doing well!

Hey Dolly! I wrote a blog and created a gallery on London! Be sure to check it out! Hope you are well!

Dolly, forgot to ask you what you thought of Heroes this season and do you think they'll come back in Feb like last year? My son and I felt like something was missing last night!!
