Hey Dolly, TGIF!! I meant to bring in my camera to download those pics but I forgot. I'll get 'er done tonight. Hope you have a joyous weekend.

LOL! no drop off. just thought it was a good one for after halloween.:)

I just have stuff to do around the house this weekend. I will start working on some Christmas ornaments though. I always wait until it's too late to make them, then get upset at myself. I'm trying to do good this year. =) Will you be doing anything exciting?

much MUCH easier to kite surf! I always sucked at regular surfing, and wind surfing was "difficult" at best! LOL

Hi, Dolly, the book club blog is up...http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/2003931/

Hey Dolly, thanks for posting that blog on the Green Gardner! That made my day! I was wondering if you would post any of the pics and then BAM, there they are. Thanks much!

Thank you, Dolly. He seems to be trying to move around a bit more today, have more stuff coming from the vet. Am "cautiously optimistic".

I hope you are feeling better now?

My Mom broke her achilles tendon many years ago (before they even did surgery) she wore a cast from toes to behind for 6 months then got to go to a knee high cast. You need to baby that thing girlfriend, those are wicked injuries!

Hmmm...diva jr acts just like me too, but she isn't as funny - just thinks she is...LOL!

Thank you Dolly, I hope he is turning a corner (I think he is!)

I plant bulbs using both methods...I'm pretty scatter brained. If the soil is hard to work with I'll dig all the holes first, but if it's good soil I'll dig plant and cover. That's what I did for my front yard, I've conditioned the soil for 2 years and it's finally easy to work with. Used to be all clay...not surprising...=)

Dolly, How are you? Its been a while. I tried to blog you last week. I miss corresponding with you. I'm steadily learning the new job. Hows your ankle?

I've been around one Basset Hound in my life. He was sweet, and strong as an ox! Did you read my great news? I'm getting a Redbone Coonhound puppy on the day after Thanksgiving! It's in my blog, the post about miracles. I'm so excited!!

I hope you're having a good day! Paula

Thank you for the welcome. It is a ways from Fairbanks to Raleigh!! I do have some pics from here, and would be delighted to send you some. Again, thank you for the warm welcome!!

are you still washing that mutt in the kitchen sink?

kids need good hygenie...lol....yea older dogs dont like the wetness on their joints i dont care how well you dry them or heat the room...and face it by then they know we are full of it...

Good morning Dolly, I spent ten years in the military and am a "ten point" vet. I work as a support officer for the Galena Zone of the Alaska Fire Service. They call me a Supervisory Logistics Management Specialist, but I am the manager of support is closer. It is a great job, I love it, and the best part about it is that I only work about 7-9 months a year!!! I usually have a projected "lay off" date the day I come back to work. The thing that affects my lay off date is the fire situation or other disasters that might strike before I get laid off. I work on an Incident Management Team and we manage the large fires like they have out west. We also work with floods, hurricanes, even 911. We are called when there is a large complex incident that requires management of many people. We work with everything from local volunteer fire depts. to working with FEMA or even the military. It is a fun, exciting job. Thanks for your interest!! :)

Hope you are having a nice day down there. I am going to be outside with a buddy of mine doing some work...its so beautiful out today...cloudy and about 25 above. Hey, something that might interest you; our newspaper up here is the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. It is an interesting publication that has loads of info about here. They also have what they call the ArcticCam It is mounted on the building downtown and points to the core of town. It also gives the time and temp. Dont know if that is up your alley, but its a pretty big paper...daily and sent to villages throughout interior Alaska. Have a great day, and look forward to corresponding with ya

Hope you have a nice weekend. I'm off on Veterans Day! How about that. Take care of yourself.

Well Hello Dolly! (Always wanted to say that, love the movie). Thanks for the invite to check out the book. I will do that. I saw that you did freelance for Cary News. I work at their sister paper in Smithfield.

Thanks Dolly, I might have to do that. I hope you are having a good day.

Hey Dolly - my daughter's fiance ships out for Iraq 12/3. I will not be around much that week. I'll catch you in January tho!

Yes, she is in college here. She has exams the week after he leaves....sigh

Thanks, I will check it out tonight and make another trip to Barnes today. Do you know I still haven't finished the last one? It was good too. ;)

I have a recipe that I've been trying to make the time to send, after i found it. In the "I yam what I yam" blog, you asked for sweet potato recipes. Well, recently, I've started to substitute sweet potatoes for carrots in recipes. But the recipe I wanted to send you is candied sweet potatoes from my family. I will make time this week, so you'll have it during T-day, if you want.

Paula

Thanks! He is equally handsome out of uniform. :) Got the book today, looks like it will be funny. I like the review "...both wildly educational and wickedly entertaining...." Has my attention! Thanks for sharing. I have every intention of finishing this one! :)

Thanks for the invite, but I've got three BIPs (Books in Progress) right now and hardly any time to read them.

I haven't read as much as i'd like since my twins were born almost 14 yrs ago! But hopefully someday i'll be able to read uninterrupted for as long as I like! :)

wow!!! That doesn't sound like something I will be watching like ever!!! lol. Well I hope you are having a great day and sorry that I haven't been able to give any movie reviews lately... Just been busy with work, and actually have WRAL blocked at work now, because of the big fuss that happened a while back. Guess some people on here are so adament at getting back at someone that they would risk the members so that they don't get made fun of lol.

Well hope all is well D Sicks!

Hey Dolly, sorry I didn't participate in Angela's Ashes. It's been close to a decade since I read it and unfortunatly I had borrowed the book from a friend. Right now I am reading World Without End by Ken Follett and it is a rather large book so I am afraid I will have to pass this month. I'll try to come aboard next month. Have a great day!

I just recently discovered Ken Follett. I bought his book Pillars of the Earth and it was such a great book that I went back and got the sequel. He has written numerous other books as well. These two are set in medieval England and they are about a place called Kingsbridge Cathedral. If you like that sort of thing I would recommend them. I checked out the golo page with the new book for November and it looks like it is a quick read. If I have a chance to get to Raleigh, I'll pick it up. The only book stores in my area are at the local Walmart and there isn't much of a selection there.

Rabid Wolf is hysterical, one of my favorites - but don't tell him that!

You going to TIMA tomorrow? I am going to try and make it, maybe I'll see you...

My son was home sick today, I am hoping he is well tomorrow - if not I will let you know! Careful, not sure everyone there would like you saving me a seat -LOL!!!

Sounds great, you know who I like and don't like - all I ask is that you choose wisely :-)

The Yam blog is closed for comments, so her comes the recipe I promised you. I hope you like it!

Paula

Candied Sweet Potatoes

5-6 sweet potatoes washed, peeled and cut into 1-1 1/2 inch slices

1/2 stick butter (not margarine)

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup water

1 tsp. vanilla extract (use the real kind, it's worth it)

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 bag small marshmallows

Melt the butter in a 9x9 or 9" round baking dish. Arrange the potato slices in a single layer. Mix the sugars, water, vanilla, and cinnamon and pour over slices. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, then remove from the oven and pour the bag of marshmallows on top. Bake 5-6 more minutes, until golden brown.

I was Buddhist for 14 years, I lived in Raleigh then. Once when I was layed off, one of my friends offered to pay me a little money to watch her kids from after school until she got home. During that time she was sick, and gave me a bad cold too. She felt so bad about it that she taught me how to make a Japanese soup that is actually a cold remedy. It has LOTS of garlic. I forgot right away how to pronounce the name, so I started calling it "Stink Soup". It only stinks when it first starts cooking, though. It's really good, and does help ease cold symptoms. If you're interested in the recipe, let me know.

Paula

It was great seeing you too! Absolutely lunch after Thanksgiving!!! I forgot to tell you, a good friend of mine is friends with your hubby's Sis. Her name is Jill. think they were college roomates maybe?

Yep, that's my girl! Yes, I got a poker chip, and an invite to play strip poker .. JOKING! dang censors -LOL!!! I am going to bed, way past stupid tired. Have a great night Dolly, you look wonderful and I can't wait to meet you for lunch.

FYI- I know I am tired, I posted that on my own profile-LOL!

Good Morning Dolly, I hope you have a wonderful day!

JP is probably my favorite metal band of all time- I wore out that tape in about 2 months and had to go buy another one. I remember it well- summer of 83 - my ears still hurt! LOL

I am not always a goof-off. I can have a serious conversation every once in a while. LOL

I used to read a lot years ago. I tried again recently but with 2 youngsters its tough. My wife loves to read. She is a big James Patterson fan. I started reading Big Bad Wolf- in the middle of the series- and I couldn't put it down. I read the entire book in about a day. I like Stephen King as well. I need to work my brain a little more than just working on computers all day and I think reading really works in that aspect.

Don't laugh but my favorite thing to read is BYO magazine. I'm an avid homebrewer and I chomp at the bit for this puppy to hit my mailbox. I'm going to do an entire brew session for beginners and post it.

Awesome about Patterson on your article! Do you have gardening skills? If so I could use some references. LOL My thumb is sea green.

http://www.byo.com/ You can get a free subscription and opt out of the year if you like.

I don't think you can access that link, so I am going to copy and paste what I told you about and send to you and Angela....let me know what you think!

Hey, same here! Thanks for posting!

Btw, if you want a good example of a hard-hitting alternative rock song with a similar message, check out Pearl Jam's "Worldwide Suicide" - different artist and audience, but the message is easier to swallow from them. Maybe I just don't like Pink; it was never the message that upset me.

Have a great day!

I just emailed you and Angela something you might enjoy, definitely want your thoughts on it:-)
