about dsickles

I have worked as a writer, graphic artist and photographer in publishing, pharmaceutical and hi-tech advertising, performing arts, new and traditional media, and am now working in the non-profit world again.

My favorite pasttimes are spending time with my family, hiking, golfing, gardening, art history, knitting and reading. I also have high hopes of becoming a successful novelist and seeing the world before I'm too old to enjoy it.

As a lover of the garden, I wanted to let you know I enjoy when my human reads your Gardening Gloves aloud. I'd like to see you discuss smart placement in the garden for catnip ... like next to a large pond. ;) Woof!

It's a movie kinda like The 40 Year Old Virgin.

lol finally i keep meaning to make this post.....that lady who wrote that book....sandy gruen i think is her name...i think its the book yall are reading is gonna speak at asu on the 9/27 i think...yall need to double check all this..but it would be a good road trip for your little group to come up ...get a hotel and go listen to her speak....check appys web site for more info...if you can get past the ...appy beats michagan stuff lol

Thanks for the kind words about my poem.

Thank you Dolly for the wonderful and heart warming welcome. I have been with my partner now 7 years this past Sunday. we are not your typical gay couple and do not agree with the small group that tends to give us a bad name. I for one am for fair treatment of all regardless of who they are.

my fav place to travel is the Caribbean. I agree with the word "Tolerance" I also despise the word. It is hard for me to tolerate actions that i do not agree with so i just get on my soap box and say what i have to say and move over for the next person. I love to agree to disagree as long as we do it like mature adults.

I change almost daily, just keeps interesting!

Thanks for keeping me in the loop on the book, unfortunately I have not finished, and cannot look at the comments - can't ruin the ending. It seems like a good book, like the style so far and love the humor undertones. Once I get settled will be more of a participant, this one was just bad timing for me. Thanks again Dolly!!

Your right she does have a mustache!! Thats why everyone thinks she is a boy. So we have tried to put on the girliest collar we could find but people still think she is a boy. O well! It gives her some personality. She is a rescue from the Turks and Caicos Islands. She is what they call a Pot Cake puppy.

I will seriously consider your invitation to write what you asked of me. Just remind me when the date gets closer so I don't forget. Thank you!

Dolly, regarding the Steve Fossey story, I'm willing to bet those rescuers would like to kick his behind but good!

Best wishes for a great weekend.

I'm enjoying GOLO!

Susan

Dolly- O so eloquent. I love your posts. Great response to smorgas blog and the other numerous posts you've made- Thanks! Yogi

Thanks Dolly- BTW- Give me some GOLO- I'll be the poster boy! I'll put my mug all over..

Dolly, did you get the beagle? I have three (and used to volunteer with beagle rescue); there's nothing like them.

Hi there, Did you get Maggie May home yet? You tell her Aunt Rosebud says Hi sweety!! I want a beagle, but we have 2 Aussie Shepards, not sure how Boo Boo would do with a puppy, he loves being the baby now...lol

a carolina fan? Poor maggie ....hold your head up little puppy....we will send you a duke collar....

nothing wrong with the wolfpack....*whispers to maggie* you got a good home afterall lol

Hey Dolly, never ended up seeing The Brothers Solomon. But I did watch Blades of Glory!!! http://wral.com/golo/blogpost/1792981/

Check out the review.

I loved sooo many of the references in the movie, the hot dog reference was AMAZING! I was on the floor laughing for at least 3 to 5 scenes. I don't think a movie has made me laugh this much in years!

Try some Lucinda Williams... I also have my ipod with me everywhere I go, but I tend to break the rules and dance in airports and in grocery lines, breaks the monotony.

hope your day went well.........

Good morning, Dolly, please check your email; I think our wires got crossed on that title...

good morning ,hope u have a joyous day!!!!!!!

i love listening to HiddenBeach ....check them out u may like them.....

Hi Army girl! :). I'm glad you liked the tap water advice. I saw Herb in Hollywood in 1984, even though I first heard my mom playing him in the mid-sixties. In 1980, I bought her Herb record collection. I woke up to the Love Shack in the Army in Germany one morning and wanted to know who was this? Hope you're having a great day!

Well, hello Dolly! That's always so fun to say. Glad you found us on GOLO. We're looking forward to participating. As you can imagine, we love to talk about books & music.

will have to check them out, hope your day is going great....

You made me laugh about driving to Herb. You are the first person in my life who own their own claims to like Herb. Thats cool. The Rolling Stones became my second favorite band, and because of their commercial outreach, my most active hobby. I enjoy my Rolling Stones historical collection. How are you today?

Soldier, you're on private so I'll reply here. I'm doing well today; glad it's Friday, though. I'll also admit to thinking that ol' Herb was a nice looking fella in his day. I'm hit or miss with the Stones. There are many of their songs that I love, but then others I can't stand; there's no middle ground for them with me. I love, love, love Paint it Black, and when I was growing up in the 80s my mom used to have me play Emotional Rescue every Friday morning, so I still love those. I never did see why Mick Jagger was considered so hot, though, with his bony chest and legs. Hope your day's going well. Don't know where you are, but will look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Sorry about that. I think I fixed the "on private" thing. I'm glad I stumbled unto your response though. You may have already left for the weekend. I'm on line from 11:30 - 8. I wonder if you have the T.J.B. song called Treasure of San Miguel? Its from their Sounds Like LP.

I'm at work. Here's the bad part. From 5:30-8, I work by myself. Are you at home or at work? I changed from soldier to 920A (A job code).

Dear Dolly, I like your fast responses. Haha. So what are your plans this evening and weekend? Me, I'm taking care of my daughter, we'll probably go fly a kite while moms at rehearsal. Is your job hard?

I face windows on 3 sides, and currently, lightening is flashing all around my face. Not cool, being that I'm on the 3rd floor. Also, the radio beeped in about tornado activity in Clayton til 6:30. Weather!! :) I'm working in RTP, so theres a broad weather report for ya. My wife is rehearsing with the church choir tomorrow. (Lightening is still flashing in my face.) Your qualifications and work seem difficult and challenging. My cousin is a graphic artist turned school teacher.

Are you kidding ... warm natural light beer? Does that really work?

Beer has all the ingredients to sustain life, yes it does work

Classical style, mostly. Recently picked up a banjo... so, might blend the two... (Thinking Kruger brothers as an inspiration).

Well I am rather a bloody mary and margarita guy myself but enjoy a good cold beer....

Yes. The profile image was taken along the Cow Creek, a northwest fork off of Suction creek (Bullwhacker area) of the breaks monument area in north/central Montana. It was along the Nez Pierce trail. You might get a better perspective by checking here:

http://www.missouribreaks.org/breaksmapback.pdf

I strongly encourage you to make the journey out there. Its one of those 'must do before one dies' kind of deals. Just plan on rugged living conditions whilst you stay! (You'll most likely go for a day or two without seeing another human outside your travel party.)

hello dolly, it is really beautiful out. i love it when you can open the windows and it's cool. good sleeping weather at night!! hope your enjoying your sunday!!

I agree, that the low brow humor is normally some good stuff. But I also agree that I wasn't the biggest fan of the American Pie Trio. And I didn't even attempt the remakes they were trying lol.

I actually have Smokin' Aces and haven't seen it yet. I may have to just open it up and finally watch it.

Dear Dolly, Good afternoon. How you today? Did you finish your article. I haven't listened to any Herb for a good 4 months. But when I thought about what kind of music I could record for you. I not only recorded some Herb to send to you, somehow, but listened from 9:30 - 12:30am. I didn't get a chance to really read your email (at home), so I'll have to look again tomorrow am.

Hi Dolly. Oh yeah, I smile and wiggle a little. :) I had a good weekend. Got to spend it with my daughter. I'm glad you got your article done. I hate having to face getting something done, so I work smartly to accomplish whatever it is that I'm facing.

I just read on someone's profile that you liked Freddie Mercury, Have you heard any of Mika? A new singer. Sounds A LOT LIKE Freddie Mercury. and I thought it wouldn't be possible. if you ever get a chance download some stuff by Mika, Grace Kelly or Relax, Take it Easy Both of those are great songs.

hey whats up, heard any good jazz lately......

Hello Dear Dolly, Am guessing you figured out is is naughty old me, finally jumping in at Google :-) As for Viggo....mmmm, mmmmm good! Yes Ma'am I am with you on that one. Dawn

Ciao Dolly, Thank you for responding this afternoon. I like hearing from you. I'll be contacting you tomorrow from my other media. Are you communicating more this evening?

hi Dolly, yes i must say i do love me some Blues, going to go music shopping soon any good blues peeps i need to check out....

Ciao again, I learned "Ciao" by the way, from Italy, where they use it as a form of saying hi and bye. I found it very endearing, and have used it with everyone since 1990. I had that same problem when I lived in Germany and used their language as well. But Italy took over. What are you doing now(Stupid question if you're on the computer;)Ciao bella- if I don't hear from you again tonight. I'll talk with you tomorrow.
