about dsickles

I have worked as a writer, graphic artist and photographer in publishing, pharmaceutical and hi-tech advertising, performing arts, new and traditional media, and am now working in the non-profit world again.

In my "spare time" (and to keep my skills sharp), I'm some combination of freelance writer, photographer and graphic artist for Our State Magazine, WRAL.com, a handful of local newspapers, and private industry.

My favorite pasttimes are spending time with my family, hiking, golfing, gardening, art history, knitting and reading. I also have high hopes of becoming a successful novelist and seeing the world before I'm too old to enjoy it.

zcorvette, glad you count me as a friend. though I drive VWs and Nissans, my mom retired from GM ... so anyone who drives 'vettes is good people, too. ;)

Thanx!

Dolly, once in my life I owned a Corvette. Many moons ago... it was brand new and I only had it for 17 days. Me and the car got in the way of a high speed chase and the car being pursued by the state trooper ran a red light and ended my dream of being a Corvette owner. The car was a total loss and I was so gun shy afterwards that I decided it wasn't meant to be. It was fun while it lasted!

Thanks dolly_sickles, I don't have many recipes but I'm glad to share. See ya.

Hey, Dolly. It's Ash (ashalator). Great seeing you at lunch on Friday!

Thank you! And I added one of my better half to my gallery!!

He will! Try it and see, let me know how you like it.

http://www.wral.com/golo/profile/1553637/

Halyard’s gallery has the cutest birthday baby picture. It is adorable!

Hi Dolly, I love The African Queen, I watch it quite often whenever its on TV. Another good on is The Maltese Falcon, you have to pay attention to every word just like Casa Blanca. Have you seen it?

In fact, I think I'll add The Maltese falcon to my list, a great movie!

Another wonderful movie is Mr Roberts w/ Henry Fonda. Having been in the Navy makes it that much more special to me. It gets me every time!

Didn't see that one but Tim Robbins was great in "The Shawshank Redemption", another one of my favorites.

How about Tina Turner's "Simply the Best"? Also my personal favorite by Judas Priest "You Got Another Think Coming".

Yeah, Tina's good, but Judas Pries is better. See 'em both, and would gladly go again. I loved Tina in Beyond Thunderdome, there's almost too many Priest songs I love. Victim of Changes, Breaking the Law, Heading out to the Highway. But I will admit to Screaming for Vengeance being about the best overall album. Great taste rah-rah!

My photo is at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. That photo is of Maricopa Point. If you never been it is really something to see....

Ok. I'll keep the information. Let me get back home on August 15th (new home in Youngsville) and I will contact you. Currently in California packing up my fathers house to move everything back east. I will be back on August 15th so I will contact you shortly after that.

Yeah Dolly. Five. It sucks cause I don't even know what I did wrong. They don't even tell me in my e-mail anymore. Hey, I asked my Dad if he knew you. He used to telecommute with Nortel and then went to CSC. He is with NetAp now and is planning on going back with them. The computer industry is a lay off type of career.

I told him your name but he didnt recognize it. Probably because you guys telecommuted. Kind of hard to get to know your co-workers that way. Saves gas though.

I think we were sisters in another life. I also have a huge coleus plant on my deck and my deck is almost identical to yours based on your photos. I have a table that is green wrought iron and looks to have the same pattern as yours. The deck has the same lattice work around it too. Deja vu... I'll have to send you some photos.

Dolly, I have read some of your work. In fact, I have a copy of "Our State Magazine" on my coffee table. Good luck on the novel. I am sure all of us have a story to tell. I can't wait to read yours. If you give it the same "heart" that you do your other work, it will be a "best seller". Take care.

Thanks Dolly,

I really like your blog. I read every post coming from your way.

BTW you are in my RSS links so that makes you easy to find.

Guess I better slow down a little and post less often. After all I do't type all that well and I have a tendancy to be overbearing.

"Hey Legs. We could've been sisters, most definitely. Does your green iron garden furniture need painting like mine?"

How did you know, Dolly? Actually mine looks pretty good considering it sits out there in the elements year round and gets a LOT of use! Is Willow Springs a town? We have a Post Office, a school and a few stores (er, I mean... gas stations) and that's about it. Don't forget the traffic jams... have you ever gotten behind a tractor on Hwy. 42? Or tried to visit the Post Office when it's time for school to let out??? Maybe I'll run for mayor one day and design a better infrastructure... LOL.

Well, I have spent my morning so far just blogging away! I need to get ready for my morning walk at the Apex Community Center. I then have a trip to the airport to look forward to. Wonder if I can go on the new 540??? Pictures on WRAL don't look encouraging :)

Thank you so much Dolly! I posted a little comment on your WRAL Gardening blog.

There are so many nice people here on WRAL's website, I enjoy it everyday!

Hello Dolly. Your list of movies brought back a flood of memories. I will share one with you. I used to live in Lousiville KY from '82-'85. There was a theater (much like the Rialto on Glenwood) called the Vogue. Every Friday and Saturday they had a Midnight show. They had about six different movies that they showed in rotation. I can only remember a few of them but they all were cult classics. They always showed Rocky Horror Picture Show every week, on one week they would have it on Friday and the next week it would on Saturday. People dressed for the parts and they actually had a theater troup that preformed live on stage while the movie was playing over their heads. Some of the other movies were Pink Floyd the Wall, A Clockwork Orange, The song Remains the Same, Dark Side of the Moon, and the Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai. The same people were always there, it was a massive party before the show. I miss the 80's.

Hi Dolly - one of the benefits of getting old ( for me ) is becoming happier. :D

Please welcome my old friend Rainy39 to our GOLO group, she's a great person & I know everyone will like her!

Yeah the good old days of WRAL, I miss them.

Since you work for Golo can you tell me if they are going to add a "blog edit" button?

Well thank you Dolly, glad I got the first one out of the way. Of course it's tough to find time to post an entire blog at work. But I do my best to find magical time LOL.

Thanks for the email...

Is my participating really "interesting" to you? haha

Do you suppose she was the inspiration for the "Star Spangled Banner"

Thanks for reading it's nice to get the feedback, I appreciate it.

The idea of freezing the herbs in ice trays will be very useful to me, thanks!

The image is something random I caught off the web. I try to have a sense of humor every now and then.

Are you coming to the pool party. LOlly said she was taking pics.

The pool party is Aug the 19th. Did I type the 1st?
