gone for a while, glad to be back

Thanks for asking, Angela. Sheba is doing well. There's sadness that follows the shock, of course. Losing a friend to violence always takes time to absorb and accept.

She did not get to attend the funeral, since it was in Chicago. Thanks again for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers. :-)

Hey, did you know I make a fool of myself in public twice a year? This evening (Saturday) I'm doing it again. I'll be doing something someone called 'singing' and playing a guitar for a couple of songs at church for a fund raiser event.

I think I'll put up a blog later today for it. It's a fund raiser for Appalachian Service Project. We'll have a chili cook-off, followed by an amateur (if I'm in it, you KNOW it's amateurs) variety show.

Before you ask, No, I won't enter the contest. My title of 'chef' is a bit intimidating to some, so I recuse myself from such contests in my home church. (My chili still is in development anyway. And I don't like to lose - LOL)

Hi Angela, how are ya? I hope you are well. I am fine here, well, except we got about a half foot of snow last night and it is still snowing like crazy!! I hear ya'll are going to probably get a good one too! Wow, two in one year! Rarely do I remember getting two good snows in one year all those years I spent growing up there. Wow, GoLo sure has grown. I haven't gotten on alot lately, but you must have gone from having a nice little job...moderating a few people to NOW, having SO MANY people from so many diverse areas. Glad it is you and not me. Well, I just wanted to say "Hello" to you and wish you and yours well. Take care and enjoy the snow if you get it.

Can you send me your email address? There is something that I really want to talk to you about.

Thank you for the blog on back pack buddies. We in our secure, warm, and well fed lives need to hear about other less fortunate ones. I hope this feeds many more kids for many mor weekends. Thank you again!

Okay, you know I can cook. But I play guitar too. Here's a blog to make you laugh. A personal report of my most recent public musical performance. (and I lived to tell about it!)

"Smorg In Concert: Report of the Performance"

http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/4641088/

Hi Angela, thank you for putting my blog up on the main page with Steves earlier today. Blah told me about it while she was on. That was kewl!

Hey, I see you on the live chat with Greg. I've tried to pose a couple of questions, but for some reason they are not being shown. Any ideas?

hope you are enjoying the snow up there! we've had some light flurries down here on the coast, but nothing is sticking here...just cold and wet. Wow, am I ever ready for spring!

Hey, would it be alright if I made "addicted to golo" bumper stickers to raise money for blog for hope?

"Hi Danriverboy: I appreciate your feedback on the policy. Perhaps we should have started off with moderators. That way it would not have been a big deal. But I don't think it's too late to try to make things better. Can't say that I knew so many people would skate so close to the guidelines and disregard them completely. -Angela"

I appreciate the difficulties involved. I just remain convinced that the middle ground you guys seem to be seeking is somewhat nebulous. I say that because the basic quality of the postings doesn't change, just the manner of their presentation.

In essence, if the norm is largely banality, then making people play nice in its presentation doesn't change that. It remains banality, just in a more palatable package.

I don't envy you trying to find a happy medium. The sad fact is that in a large group of people, you'll most often find that the lowest common denominator dominates through the sheer volume of their collective voice.

I wanted to report a poster for abuse but didn't see what category it would fall into. I felt he was threatening to google me for personal info. Will you check out the post and let me know? Ummm, you know that by "helping her out with the car" by titling it in your name, you're committing crime and can go to jail for fraud, right? And, ANYONE can report you? And why should we not? (You're only a google and email away from the big house...not to mention the monetary payback.) All this risk for your mother-in-law... You could be in prison and have an arrest record. Whatcha gonna do about it? Ready to take a stand?

I think your life could be a Reality Show. ;-) So can you consider dropping 30 whole dollars for a co-pay and get a little "real" help from a pro?...a psycologist...who could also help your mother-in-law... again, just a google away

Take care, eh? :-) hereandnow99 February 27, 2009 9:57 a.m. Delete Block Report abuse

"Hawk_fan: I love this idea. I am going to post the next list I see."

I liked the "read, watch TV, read more" series myself!

I'm curious what will be on your daughter's list. :-)

I do hope your children are better soon, the flu is nasty. And hang tight, it seems golo is moving through puberty. It has hit my house hard. It's a bumpy ride but it will end

Dear Angela... I think this is a wonderful site, amazingly well set up, and you also remain true to the commitment to free speech. I wish you a GREAT upcoming Spring and Summer!!

Sincerely, aaglaas. :-)

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well Angela....I hope the coming days of warmth and sunshine treat you like a bowl of chicken soup....get well soon....

Hope you feel better (mean it) btw I guess it is ok for ptahdatum to use my profile pic to make a slanderous accusation huh?

http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/4664940/

I see you recognized the latest atack blog...I did, too, right off the bat! HE is being attacked almost daily, by the same people, over and over. BTW, I reported the abuse in the blog against skypilot last night, but I suspect your moderators didn't read the comments and understand what the troll had done...that was one of the worst I have seen...

You had no right to pull that blog.I did not break any rules and you know it.

Ditto.

thank you for getting back to me, hope the girls are better. I have one home sick now myself. It's going around. I have no reason to think that the person has my email, I just felt funny and a few folks mentioned to me that they felt it violated TOS and should be reported. When I went to do so, I couldn't find a category. I don't think I've ever reported anyone and didn't know there were categories! So I figured I'd ask you what your thoughts were on the comment, if it crossed a line or not.

Hi, you posted a blog recently about the friends only feature. I think that is what its called. Can you tell me where to locate it? I can't seem to find it on my profile. Thanks

Angela, I just read your blog.

I don't know how you put up with the stuff on GOLO. I would have screamed in frustration and left long ago.

You have prayers coming in your direction. Chemo is a breeze compared to what you have to put up with!!! :D

"Bout that "perception" I can't even begin to tell you who that group of people you're referncing consists of. Care to enlighten me via email. aconnor@cbcnewmedia.com"

Rick posted an excellent example:

i know abuse was hit on this one...several goloers specifically mentioned hitting it. just curious as to why that one was not yanked, yet one was yanked this morning because you "believed" it was indirectly aimed at another user. i just want you to clarify the rules. it seems like there is a lot of discretion here. - slick rick da rula"

To be frank, the perception is that Tmedlin and Steve Crisp, to name two, are allowed a far larger degree of latitude, and a far smaller measure of enforcement, than other GOLO'ers are.

To fully appreciate that statement, though, you must read the comments as well as the blogs. I recognize that you don't have the time or staff to do that, but it's where the problem (and the solution) both lie.

Oh, I do understand that you’ve been charged with doing quite a bit. I’m saying they (i.e. the bosses) shouldn’t have charged you with doing so much! :)

I’ve been on quite a few other forums sponsored by news agencies. Same type of stuff goes on. People bickering and calling each other names is pretty minor. WRAL just needs to keep up with the legal liabilities.

As for me, as I’ve told others, I am guilty of slinging poo. But I try to make sure it is defensive poo! :)

Have fun!

I have come up with the solution for Golo! Visit my blog when you get the chance.

(all in fun)

LOL...You poor, sweet dear, //chill shakes her head and give you doe eyed look\\.

But, thanks, because now I do know there is a job you couldn't pay me to take. LOL.

Be blessed sweetheart, and I truely hope the girls will get to feeling better, especially with the wonderful weekend weather coming in. Mines, had it last week, and my carpets took a serious beating. So did the shampooer. Sigh....praying for ya!

Angela, in reference to your statement to nic;

"Please stay. I am making some changes around here. The bullies are not in charge, and their time is coming to a close. You can be here. You tell them I said it. PERIOD. There is nothing else to be said on the matter, Nic."

I am one of the people that called him out for promoting his business. I don't want him to go either, and have told him so, but I in no way feel that I have "bullied" anyone. I simply thought it was inappropriate to promote his business in this forum. "nic" and I have made a fragile friendship even though we've had our differences. My point is that disagreement isn't always bad, it can lead to understanding and tolerance.

Was your impersonator the same person who commented on Obcure's blog just above the "dang I'm a dunce" blog? I'm afraid if it's as easy as it seems for someone who understands IT ( clearly not I ) to get right back on the horse, you may be fighting a losing battle.

"Thanks for sharing your perspective."

And thanks for not attacking me about my perspective. Of course you wouldn't though!

After seeing everything that has been going on today, I know you must be pulling your hair out and a little stressed. Ive been here since almost the beginning of Golo and just wanted to say thanks you are doing a great job with this site!!

On a totally differant subject, Im not sure if one slipped through but I was looking at the new profiles added today and thought one looked suspicious and thought that maybe you should take a look. I wont post the link here but Im sure it wont be to hard to figure out.

Again thanks for what you do here in Golo Land!!

Hi Angela. The blog I did was an recipe blog period. Was not not meant to be taken out of place other wise. I seen comments about pork rinds and decided to do a blog on a recipe. Thought they might be interested in cooking some themselves. I know I would.

shove it....im tired of golo.

before ya ban me though, please answer this. i received two emails today. please explain how my comments in those emails violated the tos. please tell me the specific tos section that i violated. you can really take your subjective rule enforcement program that you have started and shove it. YOU have made this place more ridiculous than many of the people here. good job.

Good evening Angela, after much consideration I have decided to take a GOLO breather. I am really sorry for ruining your blog and I am ashamed of how I acted. I am a thousand times better than the troll I allowed to bait me. Do what you need to do. There will be no hard feelings either way. Again, you have a job to do and I respect your decision and your right to do so. Good evening and take care.

ps. Since most think I cause drama and I am the problem on here, lets see how peaceful this place is without me. I pray they are right.

Later!

"Another common misconception. I don't check the abuse reports 24/7. I check them several times per day and it depends widely on my workload. So, a comment may not come down the minute people report it."

I wasn't pointing out Rick's comment as offensive. I was pointing to it as a good answer to your question. The blog he cited DOES appear to violate TOS, it WAS reported by multiple people, and yet it's been up for a few days now with no action being taken despite the abuse reports.

When people see things like that, it basically says to them "this user is buddies with management and gets by with things that we do not." It both causes and feeds the perception I spoke to you about.

That creates problems.

Hey Angela. I just wanted to stop by to say I think you are doing a really good job in here. Actually I don't know how you deal with all the juvenile delinquent types on here day in and day out, and still manage to stay positive. I have enjoyed GOLO and as you know I really enjoy having a place to post pictures of my girls and talk about our adventures together. A lot of good has come from GOLO too. I've been fighting off some late winter crud the last few days, so just this afternoon I found Javajoe's blog, "Great Moments in GOLO History". I listed 3 posts worth, but I could've listed more than that. Anyway, I'm sorry things have been so weird in here lately, and you have to deal with it all. I think you should go out and treat yourself to a bananna split with everything on it during the nice warm weekend! Have a good one.

Thanks again for your responses today, I appreciate the time and realize you are busy.

Angela - "All prayers appreciated. Thank you!"

Any time Angela.

Have you ever considered working in a child care facility? At least there you can put the unruly ones in time out.

;o)

Am behind you 100%.

God bless.

RB

Angela, Are you removing posts from blogs? Or if you remove a profile, do the comments go away with the profile?

Man, it looks like you have had a full day today. I am glad that I was working hard and was not here...lol. I would like for you to take a look at blogpost4680824, please. Thank you.

Don't you worry about me little lady. I removed the target on my back and now Nic99 is in the house....It will be a whole different ballgame now....

I have a suggestion that is used on another forum that I frequent. When you flag a comment or another post, you have to put in a few words as to why it is flagged. I think that sometimes things get flagged but the moderators don't understand the back story and why someone flagged them.

Just a thought. :)

During the summer, my wife and I will head to the beach and fish from the pier. We'll be out there till 3 or 4 in the morning. We mostly catch puppy drum, spots, smaller fish. At times there are so many small sharks, that will be all you catch. I grew up in NW PA and did alot of freshwater fishing as a kid. Caught trout, walleye, etc. My wife and I want to learn how to fly fish and head to a mountain steam. That would be fun.

Mornin' Angela...The "Our Picks" is pretty cool this morning, in other words I'm flattered...:)...but that ain't my bike ! :) I think that's one of the other GOLO'ers and now he may be thinking I've snatched his ride and am now out joy riding! LOL Have a great weekend!

I think Elcid told me he was a Professor (Law) @ Duke at one time. That by itself impressed me & that is why it was interesting to follow his comments. Not that I always agreed with his logic, but it was a chance to see the 'Inside Scoop' on how he taught his students. I had the most respect for him.

But you gotta admit Angela, not taking anything away from Steve, because I consider him to be VERY smart as well, but it was fun to watch those two go at it, with neither giving in, but kept clean w/o the insults that some do now when someone doesn't agree with them.

Some believe ole Elcid lives on here today, under another name, & I do too. I sure you know whom I'm speaking of. No complaints though. I always liked him. :)

I hope you get a chance to enjoy this well deserved weather we are having. Have a GREAT weekend!!

Thanks for the welcome Angela - this is a great site!
