building a solid foundation
The house continues to move forward. Here are pictures of the foundation in progress
Our friend, Brian, came out to lend a hand. This type of work is right up his ally. He built his first house by himself and knows a few tricks of the trade. His help has been invaluable! Thank goodness for good friends!
OK, so with young kids, I have read too much Dr. Seusse. But even at my age, I still love those books. ANYway, behind the shipment of bricks, you can see the front of the house and the bad seal.
It's getting there.
The foundation has to match the current footprint, even if we are changing that. In this corner, we will be extending the wall out to be flush with the outer wall. Thus the block in this foundation and the jagged edges on the brick work. The mason will be adding another foundation wall to support the extension of this "mud room."
Before the house could be set down on the foundation, we had to install the flashing...
...Then we had to bolt on the pressure treated seals.
With the flashing and seals complete, it's time for a partial foundation inspection.
It's time to set down. As you can see from this pic, we're close, but not there yet.

The house is now sitting on its foundation and the weight is off the beams. All sorts of sounds as the weight was redistributed-snaps, crackles and pops, but sturdy and solid as it settled.
It went down beautifully! We have to add a couple of drop girders, which is why this pier is not holding anything yet.
WOW! You can place a 4' level on any floor in the house and it's level. We did not have to shim a thing. THANK YOU WALLY for the excellent brick work! You can't get any better than THAT!
