disassembling house
These are photos taken when we began disassembling the upstairs. Getting ready for the big move!
This is the beginning.
We're making progress. We numbered the pickets so that we are sure to put them back in the right place.
The completed project. We've removed the upstairs railing. Can you see how the upstairs hallway seems to float w/o any support or bracing from the bottom floor?
This photo may better show how the upstairs hallway has been cantilevered. We LOVE this architectural aspect of this house. It definitely adds character!
I want to keep as much original as possible, within reason. We decided that we like the sink from the upstairs bathroom. We'll move it to the guest bath downstairs. The date on this sink is 1941. There's a tub to match, same date. Don't know what we'll do with that yet.
This is what will become my son's bedroom. I cannot explain why the back part of the floor was painted red (other than there was a red carpet in the room and that was the only portion not covered by it). This shows how good the condition of the wood floors are!
This is a picture taken after we finished removing all the trim, doors, molding, etc. Whew what a job!
