The BBB can't even help with this one

HOLLY SPRINGS —  Happy Friday GOLO:

I have a quick story to share. I enrolled my daughter in guitar lessons at Wake Music Academy of Holly Springs back in September, for a 10-week session.

She attended two lessons and then broke her leg. Needless to say she could not continue. I called several times to ask if I could just transfer her to the next session assuming that her leg would be healed by then. I wasn't even asking for a refund, just to move to the next session.

I never got a call back. After the 8th call I finally decided to go up there. I probably should have gone sooner but my schedule wouldn't allow it for various reasons.

So, I go up there and the place was completely empty. No sign of anyone or anything. No letter on the door about where to forward inquiries or how to communicate with the company on any level.

I felt like I was in a bad movie because they had my 200 bucks.

I ran into Rudino's right next door and asked if they knew anything and they didn't. They never even saw them leave.

So I made a few more calls and finally filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. Here is the email I received from them today:

Thank you for contacting the BBB about a dispute you have with a business. We have attempted to contact the company at the following address:

Music Academy Of Wake County Inc
5241 Sunset Lake Rd
Holly Springs, NC 27540-3793

We regret to inform you the mail we sent to the business was returned as UNDELIVERABLE or they are no longer in business.

If you can provide a current mailing address for the company we will be happy to try to assist you again.

Sincerely,
BBB Complaint Department

I'm glad they tried but if I had another address I would go there myself.

I also found these complaints from others in an online forum.

  • Anyone else affected by this closing? I have lost a semester's worth of money for two students and I can't seem to get any answers about if we will be refunded or not. I wouldn't mind a small amount but we are talking hundreds of dollars here. Mods, I apologize if this is not the place for this but I'm really at a loss on where to go to find out more information or what I can do about it.
Thanks for any help.
  • I am having the same issue. We had been to 2 classes of Kindermusik and received a similar letter. There is no contact information on the letter, the phones are disconnected, and when searching online for the music teacher, there is no way to find anyone (other than a black hole "contact us" template to complete and submit).I have a feeling the money is gone forever if they couldn't meet their expenses. I am sure they are deep in debt. Maybe someone else can offer us some advice. Sorry I couldn't help more!

  • I'm sorry to hear you having the same trouble with Kindermusik. Music Academy did the same thing. They sent out the letter and then everyone and everything disappeared. The website is gone and phones disconnected. I do have the lead teacher's email but when I inquire about the money or my daughter's piano teacher (who I can't find) there is no reply back. I know it is the sign of the times but what frustrates me is the lack of communication. I was just wondering if there is anything we can do as consumers because so much money has been lost.

I think my money is gone forever as well. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me. I think I'm going to talk to Monica and see if  5 On Your Side knows anything about it.

Anyone else ever experience this type of bamboozling?

(UPDATE at 10:21am. I just spoke to Monica. She got lots of calls about this company. They filed bankruptcy and closed their doors. Yep, my money is gone for sure! Thanks for all of the advice. Too bad they took all of that money from people to start a new semester when they had to know things were shaky!!)
