But, you're right, that was race trim in those days. Car high in the air for weight transfer (high center of gravity, weight shifts to the rear on acceleration)... small front tires to reduce unsprung/rotational weight.
Ah, the good ole days... before 'stutter boxes' and electronically shifted automatics. No rev limiters, line locks, and you better know how to drive a stick!
