So I wanted to update everyone about the situation I asked for advice on a while ago, about my friend who was doing drugs around her baby.
Well "somebody" did call child protective services, and told them everything. That monday cps called my friend at 11ish that morning and told her that they were opening an investagation on her for child abuse and neglect and that she needed to come to the office at 3:00 that day. So they gave her a good heads up to get rid of everything. Smart real smart social worker.
So during this meeting she admits to them she was smoking pot, and thats all. The case workers then come to her house and do a home visit. They decided to leave the baby there and to investigate her. But of course there wasnt anything wrong at her house because she had time to get rid of everything and clean up.
I started getting threats immediatley from her mother, babys daddy and her. I was worried at first, but things seemed to have been all talk. Needless to say we are no longer friends. And I have started carrying pepper spray just incase.
But during the whole investigation, she continued to do drugs and drink. And cps closed the case 3 weeks later. So, I have to ask myself...was any of this worth it? We read everyday about children getting abused to the point of death, and wonder why nobody ever did anything for those poor helpless babies. I am so dissapointed in our system of child protection right now. Did I want her baby to get taken from her? No! I wanted her to get help, and get clean. I dont regret the decsion that I made I just feel it was all made for no reason in the end because nothing has changed. Cps did nothing. I thought it was their jobs to protect the children???

Otherwise, as you said, a call from CPS of an impending visit only allows for the contraband and all signs of anything wrong to be properly addressed....
If the police arrive to investigate criminal activity, there will be little time....and perhaps the smoke will still be lingering in the air...
"No one likes a tattletale" is what we were taught in school, but "whistle-blowers" are given more credit. When the real concern is the welfare of the child, making the call is an honorable thing and may go a long way towards redirecting a child's life in a more positive direction....
Just my two cents....

You just don't call somone you are going to investigate and give them a heads up. I'd say that's equivalent to calling joe drug dealer and telling him that the police are going to raid the house at 2:00.
I'd say CPS sure bungled this investigation.
