same-sex couples and adoption
Published Nov. 5, 2009Views: 946
If same sex couples qualify on every other level to adopt a child (financial, emotional stability, age, etc.), should they be allowed to adopt?
How do you feel about some states having laws that ban same sex couples from adopting? Etc.
Your thoughts in general...

People on your side of the debate haven't come up with any reasons for their INtolerance that are based on anything but the "ick" factor or their own particular religious beliefs.
I do have to give you credit for at least saying why you believe s/s couples adopting is wrong, even though your reason is mistaken.

Wanna bet they don't? Besides, my 4'11.5" college roomate married someone 6'6" and about 250 lbs. They didn't really "fit" but they seemed to manage just fine.
And what, exactly, is your basis for saying it's "clearly" wrong? Surely you aren't just basing this on your opinion, unsupported by any facts. The evidence is very much on our side, if you use credible sources.
You should know that many of us don't "tolerate" adoption by and/or marriage of s/s couples. We actively support them.

TW: Why shouldn't they have the same rights--and responsibilities? Give me even 1 good reason not based on religion.
A: ...demand that M/F marriage laws be obliterated and a new set of laws adopted...
TW: "Obliterated?" These laws often (usually?) did not specify the gender of the people involved until the so-called DOMAs.
A: Demanding to change the moral/religious standards of another group of people.... expect ...vast opposition?
TW: So why are you demanding to change MY moral/religious standards? YOUR beliefs are NOT a Constitutional basis for limiting what MY church can do.
“In other words, just change the verbage from marriage to civil unions and everyone should be happy, LOL.” Soulbait
If only it were that simple. Unfortunately, the same people who oppose s/s marriage oppose CU’s, too. Heaven forbid they should have to share something with gay people.

There are 2 major problems with that.
1st, being gay IS normal for gay people. Trying to be otherwise causes incredible misery for them & those who love them--esp. if they marry & have kids.
2nd: It's kind of like saying the sky is red because I "don't agree" with blue. There is NO evidence from any credible source that says children of s/s parents are more likely to either be gay or "try to." They ARE more likely to be self-accepting, esp. if they do happen to be gay.
There is NO evidence that children need m/f parents, other than biologically, according to both the Am & Cdn Peds Assns.
2 parents MAY be better than 1, but not always. Sometimes divorce is best for all concerned.
Are you (i.e. anyone who opposes adoption by singles &/or s/s couples) under the delusion that there is a SURPLUS of adoptive homes for children that need them?

Of course they should be allowed to adopt if they otherwise qualify.

I totally agree. Maybe that would make people think twice before getting married, knowing that they HAD to live with each other regardless. I married for life, the way my vows indicated. Divorce is not an option.
