free meals for veterans

Some places are offering free meals for Vets on Veterns day. I asked the question below in a much earlier blog but only got one response........
I often wonder what Vets really think of such things.....I'm not a Vet myself (Volunteered for the RAF but evil US Corperation tempted me away with lots of money and no forced marches)but it seems that it would be better that people focused on making sure Vets are treated well when they need help (remember the disgrace of the VA hospital a few year back)rather than a free meal now and then.
Vets, whats your thoughts on the subject?

I think it would be a better idea to partner with a reputable veteran's organization on projects that help vets. I know the DAV has a van pool that assists vets with transportation to and from the VA hospitals. I'm sure they are always looking for donations to help with the costs.
I guess I'm saying anything is nice. It would be better to do something more meaningful instead of a gimmick to fill a restaurant.
