updated...

Only about 200 had voted at my precinct by 7pm last night.  No wonder Durham keeps getting the same tired idiots re-elected.  Sigh... another couple years of Bell.

"IMO, there's got to be a better way."

Well a lot of posts are elected here that really should be professional jobs not just some politicians stepping stone. In the UK we elect a council and most other local gov jobs are professional posts that answer to the council as they would to management in any other business.

Well I promise that if/when I become a citizen, I will vote ever time....with turnouts that low even my "warped" views on Guns and Healthcare could carry the day :)

The vast majority doesn't vote, and the ones that do, either vote for the incumbent automatically or whoever makes the most noise (which is often determined by the media). Sad really.

well if I would have been out there voting; but none of the elections that took place involved my area. Don't worry, Bell will continue with the same idiocy.

dwntwnboy: my district didn't have anything going on in this election, either. Otherwise, I'd have been there.

IMO, there's got to be a better way. IIRC, there was some talk last year (and maybe an experiment in Cary?) with "instant run-offs." That makes sense to me, both because it cuts the expense of 2 elections back-to-back and because then the 1st one could be held on the day most voters expect to vote. I almost missed this year's because I wasn't expecting it in October, even though I knew intellectually it was early. Luckily, I go right past my polling place on the way to work, so I was reminded by the signs.

That's a sad reflection on our system, Bart, but how do we fix it?

By your numbers, it appears that the minority is controlling the majority !

I was very disappointed in the Durham population. Looking the Election boards site this morning, not one single precinct reported over 19% turnout. Link elcid stated less than 8% of the voting population cast a ballot in this election. AND WE HAVE EARLY VOTING TOO! That's ridiculous!

And crunching the numbers JUST on the Mayor race, Dopy eyed Bell was re-elected by a whopping 6% of the registered voters!

That's very disappionting Durham!

My district didn't have anything to vote for or against on Tuesday. Everything we were supposed to vote for was done a few weeks ago in the last election. Would have been there had there been a reason to be.

btw... I don't totally disagree with the content of the blog's picture, but think it is a bit of old-news with a clever twist. I just get a kick at watching both sides of the political spectrum get their panties in a bunch!
