Only about 200 had voted at my precinct by 7pm last night. No wonder Durham keeps getting the same tired idiots re-elected. Sigh... another couple years of Bell.

Well a lot of posts are elected here that really should be professional jobs not just some politicians stepping stone. In the UK we elect a council and most other local gov jobs are professional posts that answer to the council as they would to management in any other business.

IMO, there's got to be a better way. IIRC, there was some talk last year (and maybe an experiment in Cary?) with "instant run-offs." That makes sense to me, both because it cuts the expense of 2 elections back-to-back and because then the 1st one could be held on the day most voters expect to vote. I almost missed this year's because I wasn't expecting it in October, even though I knew intellectually it was early. Luckily, I go right past my polling place on the way to work, so I was reminded by the signs.

By your numbers, it appears that the minority is controlling the majority !

And crunching the numbers JUST on the Mayor race, Dopy eyed Bell was re-elected by a whopping 6% of the registered voters!
That's very disappionting Durham!
