a new republican in obamas back yard

In Virginia, McDonnell (republican) creamed his Democratic rival (Deeds)by 18%. That is sending a statement to the White House loud and clear. For the first time in 8 years we have put a Republican in office as our Governor. This is a state that Obama took last year, but now Virginians are dissatisfied with the way things are going. The Republicans also took a couple other major races within the state.
Now that Virginia has been awakened, how about the rest of you?

True. No offense intended, but Virginia elections largely tend to be a statement of "we don't like the status quo."

I'm reserving my outlook on what it means for Virginia until the runup for the midterms gets into swing. With regard to NJ, it was a personal referendum on Corzine, IMO, not really one on Democratic politics.

Try and be consistent people.
If the people in these two states spoke yesterday, then the people in the whole nation spoke back on Nov. 4, 2008.

The contested primary didn't help us there either, but I don't think you'll find many Dems who seriously expected to win this one to begin with.
