wake county may face lawsuit from naacp over re-segregation
Published Nov. 3, 2009Views: 901
If re-segregation of schools begins to occur in Wake County after busing for racial, ethnic and economic balance ends, the NAACP and other groups may go to court to maintain the importance of diversity in schools.
---- SNIP ---- This goes along with thinking that every school in Wake County is in a hood. First, the NAACP was against forced bussing - because it made the black kids feel inferior. You can tell that the NAACP is still thinking that it's not the 21st century. They continually state "50 years ago...." and then they flip over to today. The kids today look at buffoons like these and wonder why people don't question them about their own racism. Oh, and I reinforce the Political Correct Edition of Racism. "It is only racism if you are a white person asking questions. You wouldn't understand."Filed under: Politics

I agree Neighborhood schools are great. My two youngest sons attend neighborhood schools. What you say about them is true. But having grown up in that area and knowing the history of public education there. I can understand why some are wary of the whole neighborhood schools idea and view it as code for re-segregation. Hurling insults and calling them names does nothing but reinforce the negative perceptions they already have about the pro “neighborhood school” crowd to begin with. On the bring good schools to the kids. Again I agree. But what’s the best way to do that?

@JuanGrande- Ok I see where you're coming from. And I can agree with you.

Segregation is bad all around. Doesn't matter how it is done, it is just wrong. Will groups of people that share common traits, backgrounds, etc naturally gather together? Sure. Will groups of people dislike other groups of people for those reasons? Sure. Should groups of different people mingle and work together to overcome misunderstandings? Absolutely. But keeping to yourselves and not be as willing to work together does nobody any good.

I know the histories of the HBS and HBF. I have no problem with either. I'm criticizing the self-imposed "separate but equal" status they self-impose on themselves. I've also seen the extreme pressure that some students are placed under for joining/not joining a HBF or HBS. Again, don't complain about bussing, segregation, etc if you willingly place it upon yourself.

@ JuanGrande- that seems to be the basis of your argument. Do you only complain when minorities segregate themselves or when everybody does it? Be honest.

So if you segregate yourself it is ok.... but if someone else does it then its bad?
There are always cliques in school. If you willing separate yourselves from rest of the sutdent body and act independently from that group, then don't get upset if that group or another calls you out on it or don't get upset if someone else suggests the exact same thing you've willingly done to yourself.

@ JuanGrande- people segregate themselves all the time based on many factors that they may have in common. Some do it by race others do along other lines such as being an athelete etc. My son plays highschool football and I'm willing to bet he probably sits at the "athletes" table during lunch. That's just the way it is.
I don't agree with black dorms or student unions etc. either
But on the note of historically black fraternities and soroties you flat out don't know what you're talking about. You need to do a little research on their history and why they were founded before you start criticizing them.
