Intimate partner violence against females: Only 49% was reported to police
Female homicides: 89% were committed by someone they knew 45% were killed by an intimate partner in 2007, up from 40% in 1993
Rapes or sexual assaults of females over age 12 in 2008: Of 182,000 committed, 57% were by an offender whom they knew 20% were committed by an intimate partner Only 47% were reported to police

That is what pushes the abuser over the edge. So aside from the obvious reasons of money, kids etc... alot of times she thinks it is better to be beaten and battered as opposed to DEAD
