an example for the right wing

Mr. Ralph Peters is a columist for the New York Post. He is one of my favorites, he has also written a few books that I have read as well. Mr. Peters served as an enlisted soldier and then as an officer in the United States Army for 2 decades.

Mr. Peter's represents the type of guy the right wing in our country needs to listen too. There is no question which way he leans politicaly, but he will give credit where credit is due, like the column I posted a link to at the bottom of this blog. He criticizes Mr. Obama most of the time, notice I said MOST of the time. He thinks for himself, he isn't a blind follower of the right. Here Mr. Obama went out of his way to pay his respects to fallen American soldiers, he didn't use it as a photo op, it seems to me that this was heart felt, and probably a gut wrenching experience for him. It had to be, I applaud the president for this. It shines a new light on him. The man is a PATRIOT, weather those of us on the right agree with his policies or not, he Loves America. He just has a different vision of how things should be. We need to stop all of the rhetoric, all of the propaganda, and talk to each other like human beings. Stop disagreeing with everything because of who said it, and not what was said. The left did this to Bush his entire time in office, they skewered him every chance they got, it made me sick. However I don't know whats worse, watching the left smear Mr. Bush, or watching the people that I thought were above that sort of tactic, turn and do the exact same thing out of some twisted sense of revenge. WE ARE ALL AMERICAN'S, we are all in the same boat, if it sinks it won't matter what side of the political line you were on, we all go down together. I used to think the majority of the right was above this sort of thing. Now....well prove me wrong.

I am not saying we need to agree with everything Mr. Obama says, but we do need to support him as our countries president, show him respect, and voice our opinion in a way that sounds like we are using REASON not rhetoric to make our point. We need to think about what the man says or does, before we decide to just disagree with it. Let's be the people we always claim to be. Our state motto say's it best "to be, rather than to seem".

Nice blog. here is another interesting article.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/01/opinion/01winfrey.html?_r=1

Thank you for posting this. I agree. We've taught our children to respect the president, even where we disagree with him. We did our share of criticizing some of the policies of President Bush, but we told our children that we should respect him as president regardless, and we were sure to tell them when we agreed with something that he did. We also told them that personal attacks and name-calling were wrong and were a reflection on the person doing it more than who he/she was doing it about. We definitely need more civil discourse in this country.

Actually, as a former military member I learned that we should respect the office, or rank, of the person, if not the person. Respecting him for being President is, as you mention, "blindly following". When this President does something of substance...let us know and we can talk.

"am not saying we need to agree with everything Mr. Obama says, but we do need to support him as our countries president, show him respect,"

He gets all the respect he earns.

Did White House pressure NYT into changing Dover story?, Ed Morrissey, Posted October 30, 2009

"The images and the sentiment of the president’s five-hour trip to Delaware were intended by the White House to convey to the nation that Mr. Obama was not making his Afghanistan decision lightly or in haste."

Obama Visits Air Base to Honor Returning Dead, By JEFF ZELENY, Published October 29, 2009

"A small contingent of reporters and photographers was quietly called to follow him to Dover"

Obama honors fallen Americans at Dover, By BEN FELLER, Associated Press

"The wife of Army Pfc. Brian Bates, who died Tuesday in Afghanistan, said she changed her mind and decided against allowing coverage after learning by phone around 11 p.m. EDT Wednesday that Obama would attend."

"We didn't need to broadcast it to the world."

Was this a photo op? You decide.

"to be, rather than to seem".

I've always liked out motto

Just Ice This is what I'm talking about, they used to do the same thing to President Bush. You would have to be a ghoul to use American KIA as a photo op, Trust me I know there are many on the far left that do that sort of thing, and worse. You don't see any anti-troop or anti American groups on the right, even our "whacko's" have more sense than that. I just don't get that from this. Watching our dead get loaded onto planes in flag draped metal coffins is like being sound asleep and getting thrown into a tub of ice water. Thats as real as it gets. I don't care how twisted you are, if you have even a shred of humanity, you don't use something like this to make yourself "look good" I think the reporters were there to HONOR the dead, not get pictures of the President.

I'd like to think you are right, that Obama loves America and reveres our fallen warriors. I hope you are right. However, many of the things he does and proposes seem to not be in our best interest as a nation. As this blog is about honoring our war dead I will not go into them here but they are well documented.

"to be, rather than to seem".

As I always say, "Watch what they do and ignore what they say". There words are meant to shape your perception, not to improve the reality.

"Their", I mean.
