wisdom of our ancestors?

While reading and commenting in Sandr'as blog this morning, I mentioned to her something of the way my father and grandfather taught me about money. I have spoken and blogged about my elders and the wisdom they have imparted to me. Sandra has also spoken of the things she has learned from her parents and grand parents.
As I thought more about it, I look back at some of the "wisdom" they imparted, and realized just how humorous some of it can be. So what I'm getting at here is this question, because I do REALLY want to know:
What are some of the "words of wisdom" or "proverbs to live by" that you have heard from friends and family, that you find unique, humorous, or just totally off the wall?
Enjoy this while you think about it, from Tim Wilson:

There have been a few times that a situation was such that I wanted to cut & BURN all ties involved, but I refrained because - as he said - you just never know.
Another biggie: "If you're going to do something, do it right the first time". I had to try that one out for a few years, but it finally came to make sense. LOL... sadly, it has not given me a lot of patience for the slackness of others!

Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse.
Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you.
The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.
Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.

Requires some explanation for flatlanders: This was shorthand for "He lacks about a plateful of brains that God gave a billy goat"; referring to someone acting stupidly or "not right in the head".
