If you're up for a debate, look no further than long-time GOLO member, T-Man. T-Man and I had a chance to chat last week and it was 30 minutes well-spent. GOLO, meet, T-Man!
Angela: You’ve been with us since the first month. (July, 2007) What has kept you here on GOLO?
T-Man: I like discussing things with people and I don’t really shy away from controversial topics. I’m pretty opinionated but I’m open to hearing others and I like to learn things. If I don’t understand something I ask questions and that’s the best way to learn something.
Angela: On your profile you state that you’re a “Christian, liberal-leaning, tree-hugging, vegetarian.” Do you ever get any reaction based on that statement?
T-Man: Occasionally. I say the liberal part probably gets more than anything else.
That’s okay with me though.
Angela: How did you make it during election season on GOLO?
T-Man: I don’t know I actually enjoyed it. I talked a lot. There were some times I had to just walk away to allow cooler heads to prevail. I’ve been told that the filter on my mouth doesn’t work to well.
Angela: Some people are probably well aware of that fact. .
T-Man: I can’t argue with that one.
Angela: I know you like to debate, but some people just want to be right. How do you deal with people like that when you’re debating an issue?
T-Man: I think just like debating anywhere else there are people who won’t change their minds no matter what. I say my peace and it’s up to them whether or not they agree.
Angela: You love the game Jeopardy?
T-Man: I do. However I haven’t had time to watch it too much lately.
Angela: Do you think you could win
T-Man: Umm, I don’t know. They like to put a lot of opera, ballet and art in there…
Angela: Your very first GOLO blog, posted on Nov. 21, 2007 was the Thanksgiving song by Adam Sandler.
T-Man: That’s a great song.
Angela: Yeah, it is pretty funny. Why did you wait four months to post your first blog and why that?
T-Man: Well, I guess I waited so long because there were so many other blogs and so much going on that I had plenty to chime in on. Why that one? Because it was fitting and it’s funny. I’ve been a big fan of Adam Sandler since when I was in high school.
Angela: What do you do for fun?
T-Man: I enjoy playing poker. I play in a league, at least once per week. Playing soccer with my son, shooting pool and trying different good beers…
Angela: When is the last time you did that?
T-Man: Which one?
Angela: The beers!
T-Man: Last week. It was the purple Haze IPA.
Angela: What is your favorite beer, Mr. Beer enthusiast?
T-Man: It really changes with the weather and not coincidentally. I like a lighter more drinkable beer in the summertime and when it’s cooler I prefer the more Stouts.
Angela: What about poker. Do you play for money?
T-Man: I’m going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and then, YES.
Angela: When did you start playing?
T-Man: We played little poker games from the time I was young. I’ve been playing cards since I was able to hold cards. My parents are big card players.
Angela: Have you taught your son to play?
T-Man: Oh yes, absolutely.
Angela: How old is he?
T-Man: He turned 6 last month. I taught him the different suits and what every one of them was called when he was 2 or 3. He likes War, Go Fish and Crazy Eights. I taught him Blackjack and Five Card Draw about two years ago, when he was 4
Angela: WHAT?? That’s crazy!!
T-Man: Well…Black Jack is fast and there’s math involved.
Angela: Whatever works for ya T-man.
(We laugh)
Angela: What’s your dream job?
T-Man: Honestly I don’t know. I love my job, where I work, what I’m doing and who I work for.
Angela: Wow. Not many people can say that.
T-Man: I lucked into a real good job after graduating college and been here ever since
Angela: What life lessons do you teach your son, besides the ins and outs of card games, that is…(I’m joking)
T-Man: I’m real big on the golden rule though it’s sometimes difficult to impart. I teach him that you’re responsible for your own actions. You can’t control the way people act but you can control the way you respond.
Angela: Agreed. Your parents taught you well.
T-Man: My parents are awesome. I’m very close to them.
Angela: Who are some of your favorites on GOLO?
T-Man: That one is hard. I like a bunch of different people for a bunch of different reasons. Those who agree with me of course and those who don’t. If I’m never challenged I can’t learn anything new. I actually enjoy the back and forth with people I disagree with.
Angela: If you had my job tomorrow, what changes would you make?
T-Man: The first thing I’d do is start submitting resumes!
(Once this sinks in I am doubled over in laughter)
One thing I would like would is if you have someone on block, people should be able to see who you blocked. It would really be helpful to determine patterns.
Angela: I can see how you might like that.
What would you do with a million dollars?
T-Man: Definitely move into a slightly larger house.
Angela: Slightly?
T-Man: Yeah, I need a bit more room and a bonus room with a pool table.
Angela: You sound like a guy who is really okay with his life.
T-Man: Most of the time
Angela: Do you have any regrets?
T-Man: Not really. I’m sure I’ve made stupid decisions but most of them have led me to where I am now.
Angela: Where do you have to go before you die?
T-Man: I need to go diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
That makes me think of
T-Man: Laughs, I just saw that… And Hawaii at least once.
Angela: What will they write on your tombstone?
T-Man: “Here lies, T-Man….a dedicated husband father and honest man. “
Angela: I hope you’re right.
T-Man: Me too…..
Angela: Any last words to your GOLO peeps?
T-Man: Be open to debate and be respectful of one another
Angela: Thanks T-Man. It’s been great.
T-Man: T-Man: Thank you!

Obviously, it matters to you since you announced on one blog how many folks you had blocked.
Can't have it both ways. can't boast about blocking people, then question others for wanting to know who is blocked.

What I meant by that is if you can see who someone has blocked, then you know if they block everyone who doesn't agree with them, or occasionally blocks folks for being nasty.
"obviously it really rankles some to be ignore or blocked"
Ignore me all you want, I could care less. But when you block someone, you are removing their ability to have their opinion heard, and eliminating your ability to learn from them. (I wonder if you will see this...)
