It seems the officer that assaulted a RM officer for tasing his dad- has a few friends demanding his charges be dropped.. In other words-- it's ok that he strangled another person, and all should be forgiving. Here's the story from the RM telegram:
B.L. Varnell allegedly attacked Reynolds over an incident where Reynolds used a Taser on Varnell's father.
Members of the facebook online support group, though, said the incident shouldn’t take away from the Varnell family’s reputation.
B.L. Varnell has been with the patrol since 2001 and, in 2006, he won the department’s Samaritan Award when he pulled a lady from the path of an approaching vehicle.
“If one incident with a Rocky Mount police officer can permanently damage his career, then it’s a cold day in hell for our other fine troopers,” Greg Smith wrote on the Facebook page. “Its [sic] amazing how shallow our state gov’t [sic] can be.”
Members of the group are asking residents to write to Perdue and demand the charges against B.L. Varnell be dropped.
Varnell is scheduled to go to trial on the charges June 6, 2010, an SBI spokeswoman said.
So his friends DEMAND the charges be dropped? --and he is on paid leave until June 6th, 2010?? Correct me if I am wrong, but that is 8 months of pay while sitting at home?
He should be fired NOW.. If I were to assault a peer at my job, I would be on the spot as one anyone of us.
