movie review: cloudy with a chance of meatballs
Published Oct. 13, 2009Views: 612
Okay, given that kid movies are all that I see in theaters, I'm back with another one for you.
This time it's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
I was already familiar with the book because I've read it an estimated 367 times, so it was a must that we see the movie at a cost of $19.50 for one adult and two kids.
But on to the review.
This movie was very entertaining and my girls loved it. Imagine cheeseburgers falling from the sky along with lettuce tomato and pickles. It all happened because of a machine created by an aspiring scientist that turns water into food. The machine ended up in the atmosphere and every time it rained, voila. The food was even made to order. (This was huge for a town that manufactured Sardines and pretty much had Sardines for breakfast. lunch and dinner.)
Type in hot dog, you get hot dogs. Interested in a little ice cream? You got it. Soup collected in umbrellas, steaks coming down like manna from heaven. The visual effects were awesome.
There was an intern turned weather girl whose career skyrocketed as she predicted the food forecast. "A soup front" moving in from the West.
Things got a little crazy when the greedy town Mayor dialed up "Las Vegas Style Buffet" as part of his goal to make the town a top tourist attraction.
It was nuts after that and there was even a spahetti tornado.
Okay but the best part: Hearing the voice of Mr. T. Yes!! I knew I recognized that voice. He was the cop of the town, which is called "Chew and Swallow" and was the stereotypical overzealous police officer whose job was to protect the town at all costs. And James Caan was brilliant as the voice of the scientist's dad.
I won't give it away because I'm sure some of you parents our there plan on attending. There is some adult humor but not much. If you want that, check out "Monsters vs. Aliens" which I saw three weeks ago. It's a small reward they often give us and I am always grateful for it.(Though it was not apparent in Hannah Montana: The Movie)
So, let's see...I think I give it 8 stars out of 10.
A fun, outrageous movie.
